Exchange 2010 | OWA | Signature with picture

Hello,

Just wanted a confirmation or second opinion.

We have a customer who enquired about being able to add an image in their signatures - for users that access email via OWA.

They are running Exchange 2010.  Based on what I see, this is not an option.  Also, when attempting to paste and save a relatively small image in OWA | Options | Settings | E-Mail signature, we receive the following error, which is probably due to a attachment size limit: The text you typed is too long.  Please shorten it and try to save it again.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
Rudy

End-user item search limit @ 250, increase?

$

Hello,

I am wondering if there is a way to increase the limit of items returned for a search from 250 to something more?

 Example -

  • UserA has a mailbox. 3000+ emails, 1 year worth of data in the Inbox.
  • UserA has his Outlook configured in "online" mode (cache disabled). "Improve search speed by limiting the number of results shown" is disabled as well (in the Options > Search).
  • UserA runs a search for letter "a".
  • Search returns 250 items - no option to get more at the bottom of search results.
  • UserA logs in to OWA.
  • Runs a search for letter "a" again.
  • OWA returns 250 items and says "If you can't find what you were looking for, please try more specific terms"

 Exception -

If UserA puts his Outlook in cached mode, and allows it to cache everything, the search (performed locally by the indexer on UserA's machine) will find way more than 250 items.

This behavior is observed in Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013.
This was not an issue when UserA was on Exchange 2010 - when the user clicked "Get More" after the initial results from Search, it would load everything else it found.

Question - Where on the Exchange server can I modify the setting for this, and is it modifiable?

Answers similar to "have user use more specific terms" or "have user specify a time range" are not what I am looking for. This worked in 2010 and having to tell the user to use more specific terms will equal to a disaster.

Please advise, thanks.

cannot start microsoft outlook. cannot open the outlook window. the set of folders cannot be opened. you must connect to microsoft exchange with the current profile before you can sync your folders with your outlook data file.

All I want to do is sync Outlook 2013 to my Outlook Web App. I created my profile in Outlook and completed all the steps and Outlook said it had all the information it needed and I was finished. But when I launched Outlook it tried to connect to my email and load my profile but it wouldn't connect and I got the following message.

"cannot start microsoft outlook. cannot open the outlook window. the set of folders cannot be opened. you must connect to microsoft exchange with the current profile before you can sync your folders with your outlook data file (.ost). "

How can I connect microsoft exchange with my current profile if I can't launch Outlook?

We received two new iPhone 7’s yesterday. The sales man came in to port them over. After the upload, the internet, phone and texting all worked. However, neither phone can connect to our exchange server. We keep getting untrusted certificate. These images show the progression as we try to resolve this.

Outlook driving me bonkers - Profile creating empty ost, unable to open.

There is an Outlook mailbox that's driving me insane. I can create a new profile with it, but the resulting OST file is empty and when starting Outlook, getting the "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folers cannot be opened. The file c:\users\%username%\appdata\local\Microsoft\Outlook\XXXX.ost is not an Outlook data file (.ost).

I've recreated the profile for the N-tenth time, same error.  Mailbox itself seems fine, I can access it via owa, and I can attach it to another mailbox, but for that life of me, it won't create a new profile properly.  Please help!

System is on the same network as Exchange server, Autodiscover is enabled, and this is the only mailbox in about 10k that has this problem.

Unable to Search for Attachment File Names within Public Folders

Exchange 2010 SP3 RU25.  Outlook 2016 (and 2007 as test).  Public Folder searches for "attachment contains" returns no matches when there are matches.  All other searchability in Public Folders seems OK.  I can search "attachment yes or no" and it works.  But if I try to search for the attachment file name or the attachment file contents, I get no results.  Cached or non-cached mode makes no difference.

Anyone have any ideas?

Exchange 2013 and Demoted Domain Controllers

$

Hello,

I recently migrated from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. I am in the process of demoting old domain controllers (Server 2008 R2) and have shutdown the domain controllers for testing purposes. Upon shutting down, a few users are not able to sign in and sign out OWA successfully. Here are the related errors in the Event Viewer and the troubleshooting steps I have done so far.

Event Viewer Logs

1. MSExchange ADAccess (Event ID 4112)

"Process Microsoft.Exchange.EdgeSyncSvc.exe (PID=2376). AD Session operation failed on DC dc2.domain.com because this server is not suitable at the moment. DomainController value set on the session instance: dc.domain.com. ServerSettings updated: False"

2. OWA: "A server that contains information about your user account and mailbox is not available".

3. OWA: An Active Directory error 0x51 occurred when trying to check the suitability of server ‘dc2.domain.com. Error: ‘Active directory response: The LDAP server is unavailable.’

Troubleshooting

1. Set the preferred Global Catalog to new DC (Server 2012 R2).

2. Set the StaticExcludedDomainControllers to exclude the old DC.

3. Set the StaticDomainControllers to new DC for LDAP (Server 2012 R2).

I would really appreciate if anyone can share their experiences who have come across a similar issue.

Thanks,

Sathish

Outlook OST or PST File Question

I have Outlook 2007 that is currently working with MS Exchange at a hosted datacenter.  I will lose my Exchange access in a few days but I want to ensure that I still have access to the emails that are currently on my PC.  The files are located locally in an OST file (see attachment). When I lose my Exchange access I assume I will still be able to access the emails that are located in the OST file.  Should I leave them there or move them to a PST file? After I lose access to Exchange I will connect my Outlook to a POP email account and would like to have the two instances separate but accessible. Appreciate all suggestions, Thanks!

OWA and cross forest co-existent

$

Hey,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't so that OWA should work on both ways when you have e.g. E2007 in old forest and E2013 on new forest?

I have ForestA with E2007 and ForestB with E2013. Some users are migrated from E2007 to E2013 and mail flows and availability services are working just fine. Also when user is moved they profiles are updated automatically.

But now the OWA added some grey hairs to me:
Case1:
when open OWA using the owa.ForestA.com E2007 users are working, E2013 users gets error:
Outlook Web Access could not find a mailbox for ForestB\User01. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization and tell them the following: The mailbox may be stored on a Microsoft Exchange 2000 or Microsoft Exchange 2003 server, or the Active Directory user account was created recently and has not yet replicated to the Active Directory site where this Client Access server is hosted.

Case 2:
When OWA is opened using the owa.ForestB.com E2013 users are working, but E2007 users get an error:
X-OWA-Error: Microsoft.Exchange.Clients.Owa2.Server.Core.OwaUserHasNoMailboxAndNoLicenseAssignedException

E2013 users have Mail User object in ForestA and E2007 users have Mail User object on ForestB. Also both Mail User objects have the ExternalAddress attribute populated.

I have a feeling that this is based on the Autodiscover config, but I have not figure out which part of that..

Is there a way to create a custom Address book with custom fields in Outlook?

We need a Contact List (like Address book) with custom fields which are not provided out of the box and the contact records will be maintained by certain permitted users.  This custom contact list will be used by certain groups of business users, no need to be glabally available.

It there a way to set up such custom contact list and give edit and read permission to certain groups of users?

Thanks for any advice / tips!

Is there a way to get fields created in SharePoint contact list to be added to Outlook contacts?

In SharePoint, you can use "Connect to Outlook" to make a Contact list displayed in Outlook.  You can drag in user names from Outlook Contact to the SharePoint Contact list.

The questions is -

if we add a new column in SharePoint Contact list, the column won't show up in the contact in Outlook as the user record is sourced from Outlook Contact which does not have that column.

Is there a way to sync Outlook Contact with SharePoint Contact so that the additional columns in SharePoint Contact will show up in Outlook Contact?

Thanks for any tips!

Outlook Client Session when switching Identity Providers from ADFS to Ping Federate

$

Hi,

When we migrated our O365 Environment from ADFS to Ping Federate, we noticed some sign in issues with Outlook Client.  It was understood that users would not be able to sign in to their Outlook Client during the migration period.  Once we broke the trust with ADFS and Federate the Trust with Ping Federate, there was a period of time where users using Outlook Client could still not sign in.  Web Browsers worked right away.  The issue seems to be with how Outlook Client handles cached sessions or access tokens. After a variable period of time users can all connect using their Outlook Client but is there a way to force Outlook Client to purge the stale sessions and force it to sign in to O365?

Thanks,

Kevin C.

Email stuck in Outbox

Occasionally I will have a user call with email stuck in the outbox. it seems that it does not go unless it is manually resent. Doesn't Outlook retry delivery automatically?

Why does OWA remove text and colon from subject line of emails?

$

If I send an email with the subject of "dev: Testing" (without the quotes) The email is displayed with a subject line of just Testing (no dev:) in OWA (Outlook Web Access). Why? How can this be prevented? Seems like maybe a bug to me.

Note that the "dev:" prefix is present in Outlook for Android. I do not use the actual outlook application, so I don't know what behavior is exhibited there.

Thanks,

-Mikey
