Shared mailbox - folders automatically collapse

$

Problem: Periodically the folders of a shared mailbox will automatically collapse and they will reorganize when users move messages, delete messages or traverse folders.

Attempted solutions:

new outlook profile, apply all outlook and windows updates, turn off cached mode, open outlook in safe mode, open outlook with no addins, sorting the folder multiple times, manually sorting the folders, disabled hardware acceleration, run outlook.exe /cleanviews, setting default view settings to all expanded, probably some more that I cannot remember.

More info:

This is the only shared mailbox experiencing this issue and we have hundreds of shared mailboxes. Every user who uses the mailbox has this problem. One thing I have noticed is that the users of this shared mailbox have custom categories. I cant seem to find any other shared mailbox with custom categories. Is there a known bug when using custom categories with shared mailboxes in outlook 2013?

Getting a error message because of "too many phone partnerships"

Hi

I get an error message that I cannot really find out how to resolve. The error message is in Danish

"Du har 10 telefonpartnerskaber ud af det maksimalt tilladte antal på 10 partnerskaber. Når du har nået maksimum, kan du ikke oprette yderligere partnerskaber, indtil du sletter eksisterende fra din konto. Det gør du ved at logge på Outlook Web App, klikke på Indstillinger > Telefon > Mobiltelefoner og slette eventuelle ubrugte partnerskaber."

translated into english this would be

"You have 10 phone partnerships out of the maximum allowed number of 10. When you have reached maximum, you cannot create any further partnerships before you delete one of the existing ones from your account. You do this by logging onto Outlook Web App, select "Settings>Phone>Mobile phones" and delete any unused partnerships."

But my problem is that I cannot find any "Outlook Web App" where you in settings have the above choices. I have tried downloading an app to my iPhone to search for such setting. I have also via my Surface 3 Pro logged on to internet outlook but not found the settings.

On the top of this I am not sure whether the error message is related to my company outlook account  or my private account

Can you please guide me where to update the "too many partnerships".

Best regards

Peter Erik Hertel

Outlook OST or PST File Question

I have Outlook 2007 that is currently working with MS Exchange at a hosted datacenter.  I will lose my Exchange access in a few days but I want to ensure that I still have access to the emails that are currently on my PC.  The files are located locally in an OST file (see attachment). When I lose my Exchange access I assume I will still be able to access the emails that are located in the OST file.  Should I leave them there or move them to a PST file? After I lose access to Exchange I will connect my Outlook to a POP email account and would like to have the two instances separate but accessible. Appreciate all suggestions, Thanks!

Cannot Open Outlook After Cross Forest Migration

Hi All,

I am encountering an issue after having successfully migrated a mailbox to a new forest (From Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013). The steps I did are :

1) Use Prepare-Mode cmdlet

2) Use the ADMT to migrate the user

3) Use New-Move request to migrate the user mailbox.

When I am opening outlook on the migrated user account. Outlook is still trying to open the mailbox on the source exchange server. I tried deleting the email account and recreate the mailbox account but it is not working. I have attached the screenshot of the error below

OWA is working on the new exchange server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Mathieu

Outlook auto-send/receive unchecking itself

Newly installed Office 365/2016.

On my home computer, I have an exchange account (from work) and a personal POP account.

In the exchange account, when I check the "schedule an automatic ..." then do a send/receive (or restart outlook), the checkbox becomes unchecked.  The send/receive schedule is set to 10 minutes.

I do not have cached exchange mode selected.

The POP account does not exhibit this problem.

I had same problem with Outlook 365/2013 at home, but do not have this problem on my work machine (Outlook 2013).

Ideas?

thanks

Kevin

Tracking email headers

Hello,

This is the first time to these forums. I am trying to understand this section of the email header  from Outlook / Exchange (as it relates to tracking a potentially compromised computer).

X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthMechanism: 04

If needed, I can post the entire header. I do understand needing the entire header for tracking an email, but in the case, I'm mostly curious about this section. If you can point to any forums I missed or websites that, I would appreciate that as well.

Known issue - Outlook stays disconnected after migrating mailbox from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 SP1

$

Hey All,

I wanted to start this thread because for the first time since working on this, I have official confirmation from Microsoft that this is a known issue.

This has been discussed in various posts such as here and here, This post is actually a semi cross-post of another post of mine in this thread. This same behavior has been linked to this KB. Although the same behavior is observed, I am able to confirm that the two issues are unrelated. I was able to observe this problem with a newer version of Outlook 2013 than mentioned in the KB as well as in Outlook 2010.

Symptoms:

Consider this scenario:

- Existing Exchange 2010 environment with new Exchange 2013 Mailbox and CAS servers introduced. All Exchange 2010 servers on SP3 CU 5. Exchange 2013 Servers on SP1 CU 5

- Clients include Outlook 2010 SP1 and Outlook 2013 SP1

This procedure is followed to replicate the issue:

- Create new mailbox using Exchange 2010 console and add it in an Exchange 2010 Mailbox Database

- Create Outlook profiles in both Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013. Outlook should work as expected at this point.

- From Exchange 2013, initiate a new migration for the mailbox in question.

- When the migration finishes Outlook displays a pop-up and asks to be restarted

- After restart, Outlook stays disconnected. Looking at the Outlook "Connection Status" screen the client tries to connect to the Exchange 2013 server but the connection is redirected back to the 2010 server.

Cause:

According to Microsoft this is a known issue. It occurs because when a mailbox is moved to Exchange 2013 from Exchange 2010, the mailbox itself still has a cache entry that points the client back to the 2010 server. According to Microsoft, this cache expires after an "undetermined" time interval for Exchange 2013 SP1 up to CU4 and every "2 to 2.5 hours" in Exchange 2013 CU5. They could not reference a KB article with this info.

Workaround:

After a migration batch completes, perform aniisreset on the Exchange 2013 CAS server. The following strategy can be followed to streamline the process of migrating multiple mailboxes:

  • Create a migration batch for a number of mailboxes.
  • Select to "Manually Complete the batch" in the "New Local Mailbox Move" window. This process will migrate 95% of the mailbox and then stop.
  • After 95% of the contents of each mailbox have been moved, the batch will stop syncing and show as "synced" on the migration window. Up to this point in the process users are able to use Outlook without any interruption and the move is invisible to them.
  • When you are ready to finish the migration, select to "Complete This Migration Batch" on the ECP Migration screen. At this time, users that have Outlook open will receive a prompt to restart it. When Outlook re-opens, it will show as "Disconnected" until the next step is performed.
  • Once the batch shows as "completed", perform an iisreset on the 2013 CAS server. At this time, Outlook will show as "Connected to Microsoft Exchange" and users will receive a second prompt to restart Outlook. After the second restart Outlook will be permanently connected to Exchange 2013.

If you do not wish to perform an iisreset, there is an alternative way of forcing Outlook to reconnect:

Microsoft has confirmed that recycling the following Application Pools forces Outlook to connect to Exchange 2013:

Exchange 2013 CAS Server

  • MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool
  • MSExchangeRpcProxyFrontEndAppPool

Exchange 2013 Mailbox Server:

  • MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool
  • MSExchangeRpcProxyAppPool

If you decide to not perform an iisreset and opt for recycling the App Pools instead, be advised that after the AppPools are recycled, Outlook connects to Exchange and asks to be restarted. If you close Outlook and immediately open it again, you will be prompted with a username and password pop-up (At least I was in all my tests of this method.) This issue is resolved if, after you close Outlook, wait 5 to 10 minutes before re-opening it. You will not be prompted for a user/pass at this point.

For those who choose to have the migration complete automatically: The cache entry that causes all this issue is cleared after about 2 to 2.5 hours if you are on Exchange 2013 CU5. In any case, it may be better if you have control over when the migration finishes by opting to complete it manually.

There is currently no KB article referencing this issue and Microsoft cannot provide a time when a patch fixing this will be released.

Thanks,
Fable

Outlook 2013 will not connect after moving mailbox from Exchange 2010 to 2013

I am in the process of migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. We use Outlook 2013 and can connect to mailboxes on Exchange 2010 with no issue. The problem is that when I migrate the mailbox to the DB on Exchange 2013 Outlook does not redirect Outlook to the new server. If outlook is open when the move is complete a message "The Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you to restart outlook". Upon reopening Outlook a prompt for credentials appears and even though I put the right username/password it keeps promtpting. If I hit cancel I get the "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete" message. Everything passes in the RPC/HTTP connectivity test at testconnectivity.microsoft.com. Not sure what to do at this point. Any help would be much appreciated.

Does the light version of Exchange 2013 OWA support offline email?

Justed wanted to know if OWA 2013 light version provides the offline feature which will make the upgrade worthwhile.

Mailbox Moves from 2010 to 2013 do not update Server value in Outlook 2010 correctly.

$

I'm running single server Exchange 2010 and 2013 servers.  The 2013 server is new and I'm just moving the first test mailboxes over to it.  When I move a mailbox from the 2010 to the 2013 db, the settings update in Outlook for Outlook Anywhere, but the old 2010 servername is still populated in the Server field in Server settings.  The client cannot connect. So the Outlook Anywhere settings are changing, but not the RPC.

If I create a brand new Outlook profile for the 2013 mailbox, then it all works correctly and the client can connect.  The Server value is correct in the profile.   I think that the client is trying to make an RPC connection to the 2010 server first before trying Outlook Anywhere.

What is the best way to fix this so that the clients update their settings correctly when the mailbox is moved?

Missing emails in subfolders of Outlook 2013 on an Exchange server

Small company of 3 users have switched over to the GoDaddy 365 email service which hosts the emails off an Exchange server. The switch over seemed to go fine. Everyone is getting emails on Outlook 2013 on the Windows 10 and Windows 8 systems, as well as phones.

One user, on Windows 10 and an iPhone, get's emails into the inbox without a problem. When she moves them to a subfolder on Outlook, they leave the inbox but are not visible in the subfolder. I can see them in the OWA, but not on Outlook. There are no restricted views or filters, that I can tell. The folder properties shows that the server and offline are both synchronized with the same number of items. Outlook is connected and all folders are up to date.

I've turned off and on cached mode. I've rebooted Outlook and the computer. I've removed and readded the account. I've made a new profile with just that account. None of these things seems to have made a difference.

She has been getting a bunch of sync errors of  [800CCC0E-0-0-430] and  [800CCC0E-0-0-940]

I'm at a loss as to how to proceed.

Hi,

I have the following problem:

An end user started having problems with Outlook 2010. It does not synchonize anymore with the Exchange server.
I removed the Email profile and created it again. Problem the same.

I removed Office 2010 and installed Office 2013: problem the same.
Webmail is working correctly.

So I logged on with the account on another computers. I am not able to use Outlook with that account.

Cannot Set Up OUTLOOK 365 - 2016 on Company Exchange Server on Surface Pro 2

OFFICE 365 2016

OUTLOOK CURRENT VERSION:  16.0.6001.1043

My OFFICE 365 subscription just renewed and updated programs to "2016".    Now I have issues with OUTLOOK using my workplace Microsoft Exchange.      OUTLOOK will not connect.    I went to REPAIR the account--- REPAIR was grayed out.   Therefore I deleted the account and tried to set up as a NEW account.

No longer are there windows to choose additional PROXY SETTINGS under CONNECTIONS.    And when i manually set up the account settings,   OUTLOOK cannot find the SERVER to connect.    However when I ping the IP address and SERVER name through Command Prompt,  my PC successfully finds the SERVER.

What has changed in this new update????  How do i set up for OUTLOOK using an EXCHANGE now?    I have had no issues for over a year with the prior version of OFFICE 365.

Thanks.

Outlook for Android can't sign in after November 25, 2015

We're currently experiencing a problem trying to get users on new Android phones to sign in using Outlook for Android. We are following the prompts as we have in the past, using the advanced settings to specify our exchange server details, but after hitting the tick to finish setting up the account, the "Attempting to login..." dialog appears for several seconds then disappears, leaving us back at the account details page but with the password field cleared. No error message appears.

We've been having this problem since November 25th, 2015 and I've tested on Android 5.x and 4.x devices. Accessing OWA on the same devices using the browser works just fine, it only seems to be a problem with Outlook for Android. I've tried several times each time the app has been updated in the past few weeks, but no luck.

One thing I've noticed is that the authentication attempts don't appear to be getting logged by our exchange server, and if I am unable to intentionally lock an account out by entering bad passwords multiple times (again, no error comes back, the device just return to the account settings page). I'm using the same settings I did before the 25th of November when things worked fine, but now they fail to work. We haven't made any changes in this time to our Exchange or network infrastructure.

There seem to be a number of other people experiencing the same problem (based on the number of 1-star reviews with related complaints going up on the Google Play store in the past fortnight), but I've not been able to make any progress.

Does anyone know if there were changes on or around the 25th of November that might be responsible? I'm having trouble finding any official release notes for changes to the app which detail what has actually been modified.

I posted this question to the MS Office community forums and a MS support engineer suggested I might have more luck trying here, so any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
