Exchange 2013 + Outlook 2010, Security Alert

$
0
0

A small customer has Outlook 2010 connecting to Exchange Server 2013 on a Windows 2008
R2 server at a remote site. Recently, the users began receiving a security
alert ("The identity of this web site or the integrity of this connection
cannot be verified", "The name on the security certificate is invalid
or does not match the name of the site"). This occurs every time a user
opens Outlook, and when they click on "Yes" they are able to use
Outlook normally. <o:p></o:p>

This problem began not long after 1) the wildcard ssl certificate was renewed and 2)
Exchange 2013 was updated to the most recent SP and CU. It is noteworthy that
the PCs being used are not members of the domain. The users also receive this
error if they use Outlook to connect from their home PCs. <o:p></o:p>

The Exchange server passes connectivity and autodiscover tests. I have checked all the URLs
in Exchange Server. I have tried changing authentication, re-enabling the the
*.domain.ca certificate, I have not been able to reproduce the error on my own
laptop from the customer's site. <o:p></o:p>

This problem is not critical, but it is annoying for the users, and I have tried
just about everything I can find on the Internet to resolve it. <o:p></o:p>

Any suggestions? <o:p></o:p>

Unread Emails in Outlook 2010 Clients shows both UNREAD AND READ emails when connected to Exchange 2013 Server SP1

We recently upgraded to Exchange 2013 SP1 with a client user-base of Office 2010 Professional Plus / Outlook 2010 SP3.

All Unread Email favorites folders show both Unread and Read emails, just like the inbox. Removal of the folder and recreating yields the same results, as does creating a custom folder. However, in Outlook 2013 there is no problem.

Is there a patch or hot fix for this issue? Or does anyone know how to fix this issue so that the UNREAD EMAILS SHOW UP IN THE UNREAD FOLDER AND NOT INCLUDE THE READ EMAILS?

Thank you!

change password in OWA with UPN

$

Hi there!

All of you know the reg key to set to enable the feature that will allow users with expired passwords to change their password (orchange password at next logon).
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2010/10/06/so-you-want-to-change-your-expired-passwords-in-owa.aspx

On Exchange 2013 this key is set oob.

On Exchange 2010 SP1 RU3 this works fine with UPNs.

But on Exchange 2013 some of the old Problems are back! I am not able to change the Password while using UPN Logonname. Its not a Problem when using the pre-win2k logon domain\username.

UPNs still work fine for normal OWA logon.

Is there any way to resolve this issue?
On OWA virtual folder i set form based authentication to UPN.

Thanks alot and sorry for my english skills ;)

UPN login fails when forced to change password

We are running Exchange 2013 SP1 on Windows 2012.  Our users have no problem logging into OWA with their UPN. But, if I set the users AD attribute "User must change password at next login," the next time the user logs into OWA they are redirected to the change password form of OWA and are forced to login with DOMAIN\username.  They cannot use the UPN that they are used to when logging into OWA.  This confuses 99% of my users.  Can this be changed to allow UPN when the user is forced to change their password?  TIA

Migrate from TCP MAPI to RPC HTTPS action required on Exchange 2007 profiles?

$

I'm migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.
Co-existence scenario of Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013
Currently using Outlook 2003 connecting to Exchange 2007 mailbox server.
Outlook 2003 clients are connecting via TCP MAPI.
Now first te upgrade to Outlook 2013 as this is required for Exchange 2013.

In advance I have enabled Outlook Anywhere on the Exchange 2007 servers.

My question is do I need to change users Outlook profile to connect via RPC HTTPS from Outlook 2013 to Exchange 2007 prior to

move the mailbox to Exchange 2013?

Or is it so that when Outlook 2013 connects via TCP MAPI to Exchange 2007 when the mailbox is moved to Exchange 2013 the users

Outlook profile get's changed 'automatically' from TCP MAPI to RPC HTTPS?

OWA Password reset via UPN

$

I need to know if Exchange 2013 SP1 (15.0.847.32) supports password resets when a user's password has expired when they log in to OWA.  This was a feature that was added to Exchange 2010 SP1 in rollup 3 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2464564). I'm able to login to OWA with their UPN but upon being presented with the password reset screen the user has to use DOMAIN\Username rather than their UPN (email address).

Without this feature I can't see how hosting providers can simplify the users experience when they are resetting their passwords.  I would prefer not for the user to have to remember their AD logon name, I just want my users to have to remember their email address.

Out of office replies in Exchange 2013 not working for external recipients

Hi,

Few days ago a couple of company workers went to vacation. They set up OOF automatic replies in OWA 2013. However automatic replies are not working for external recipients (outside of company). Internal users (company users) receive OOF notification.

I'm using smart host in sender connector configuration (SMTP server of internet provider) to deliver emails. Any clues about this problem ? Please find below part of the transaction log. For testing purposes i set up administrator account to be on vacation.

Exchange 2013 coexistence with 2007 Outlook repeatedly prompts for password

$

Hello,

I've searched endlessly for a solution to this issue, but none of the fixes out there seem to work for us. We are working on migrating to Exchange 2013 from 2007. We have two Exchange 2013 CU2 servers (both in a DAG, both have mailbox and CAS roles) coexisting with our single 2007 server (all roles). As a background, the 2007 server was setup using a single DNS namespace (mail.domain.com) and has an SSL certificate for mail.domain.com. 2007 is set to have external Outlook Anywhere (OA) clients use Basic authentication and internal use NTLM. Our AD domain is domain2.com but our primary email addresses are @domain.com. Since we couldn't re-use mail.domain.com for our 2013 servers, we chose to temporarily use email.domain.com with the intent to switch back after the 2007 server was offline or no longer used. We loaded a wildcard SSL cert (*.domain.com) onto the 2013 servers to cover this. Email.domain.com is setup internally using DNS round-robin.

Everything was going smoothly with the migration until we tried to connect an Outlook client (we use Outlook 2013) to a mailbox that resides on the 2013 servers. When adding the email account in Outlook it gets to to the "Logging on to the mail server" configuration step and prompts for a password. Mailboxes on the 2007 server never prompted for a password at this point. So, we enter the user credentials for the mailbox but it continuously fails and re-prompts for credentials. We've tried formatting the username as domain2\user, user@domain2.com, user@domain.com but nothing takes. It almost seems like the authentication mechanism isn't working. Logging on to 2013's OWA works fine and I'm not seeing anything in the server event logs that seem to correspond to this.

For OA, we have the 2013 servers set to use Basic for external and NTLM for internal (same as the 2007 server). We confirm this by running Get-OutlookAnywhere, and we can also see that IISAuthenticationMethods has Basic, NTLM, and Negotiate available (we've set this to different combinations with no change). Internal/external hostnames are set to email.domain.com (we have to change this back to mail.domain.com after testing, otherwise existing users using OA externally stop being able to authenticate).

Get-OutlookProvider shows EXCH and EXPR both have a CertPrincipalName of msstd:*.domain.com (again, we have to change this back to msstd:mail.domain.com after testing, otherwise existing users using OA externally stop being able to authenticate).

I've isolated each 2013 server by turning one off and keeping the other on, and the behavior is exhibited with both. All of 2013's virtual directories point to email.domain.com. I've tried uninstalling the RPC over HTTP component on each 2013 server and reinstalled but still have the same problem. I've also looked at the authentication for each virtual directory in IIS and they all are set to what they should be. This seems to me to be an issue with the fact that we're coexisting, but I can't figure out a solution. I obviously don't want to start migrating users with nothing but the hope it'll work in the end.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and let me know what other info I can provide.

Maintain focus on email message when navigating to journal & back

I was referred to this forum from http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-outlook/maintain-focus-on-email-message-when-navigating-to/1b678cc1-4e17-46d9-b726-620bc9b0d141

I have my email grouped by category and sorted by date.  Whenever, I navigate to Outlook Journal and back to email, the focus shifts to the bottom most message.  I shift back an forth millions of times a day, and it is getting maddening having to pan back to the messages of interest (not to mention the time that takes).  I see this as a handicap in the Outlook app with very real costs.  Is there any way to maintain focus on the same message when navigating away from email and back?  I don't want to open separate windows for Journal and email because I'm already trying to avoid being overwhelmed by windows.

set different authentication mode for OWA

hi

how can I set OWA Authentication setting for set two mode:

1. Form-Based Authentication for External Users

2. Integrated Authentication for internal (domain) Users

I want to set this setting in One server; I know the setting in ECP in Virtual Directory setting and in OWA in Authentication setting; but I try it in two server and in one server I don't know how can I set this setting.

when you select Form-Based you can not set integrated authentication in one server, you can set that in other server for your exchange organization.

Exchange 2013 "Trying to connect"error in Outlook 2013

$

Hello All,

I have Microsoft Exchange running on Server 2012 R2. I had some difficulty with the exchange installation and certificate configuration. I was able to use OWA reliably locally and thought all was well. Was able to create users, login, and import PSTs from Exchange 2003 server. All seemed well. The morning of go-live some systems could not proceed through the add account setup for the Outlook 2013 profile: The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Others were able to complete this process, but intermittently through the day everyone would get Exchange is unavailable message when trying to setup Outlook and mail delivery would stop. Restarting all the Exchange services did not help, but restarting brought everything back to normal; however only for a few hours before it occurred again. All the workstations are brand new/fresh installs.

The message the Outlook client shows is "trying to connect". During this time I am able to Telnet to the Exchange Server on port 25. When I right click on the Outlook icon in the system tray the autodiscovery appears to work. When I look at the connections monitor I see multiple connections with appropriate info, except the message "trying to connect". Yesterday clients were able to intermittently connect all day. Even without server restart email via Outlook client would be up and down.

At first I thought it was something to do with the X500 addresses I added to each user to allow then to reply to migrated mail from the old environment. Removing those address does not seem to fix the issue.

Could it be something incorrect with my certificates? I issued a self-signed certificated and deployed as a GPO, all the clients can browse OWA locally without issue; however the server is SLOW to bring up OWA or at time is unable to browse to it locally. Also all SSL/HHTPs web sites load really slow on the server itself, but are normal on clients. Furthermore, when I try to remote desktop out of the server to a client it takes A LONG TIME (30 seconds at the "securing connections" state) to actually connect, but I can use remote desktop on other systems and they connect immediately. Thinking I have messed up certificates, but not sure if this is part of my issue.

Final area, I started to setup external access to OWA, but aborted when I had issues. I removed all the links to the external domain from ECP. At this time I am only using Exchange locally.

Other than these areas, I think everything is working right. The issue is intermittent, but once it occurs you seem to have to restart the server OS to resolve it. In the meantime OWA works just fine.

This morning, I tried to connect the Exchange Management Shell to do some connection testing and it could not connect:

Central calendar to display sevaral users appointments in one view by color

Hi

I would like to create a calendar to display several users appointsments in one view, but devided in different colors pr user. Much like the default option to overlay calendars after you have accepted sharing invitations.

However i would like to avoid that all users indvidually have to share their calendar to all users, and then wait for them to share back in order to create the view. Is it somehow possible as a admin, to create a central calendar, add which users calendar should be displayd in the central calendar, and the grant permissions to this calendar to users. Much like this solution: http://www.exchangegroupcalendar.com/index.html

thx.
