Some Outlook clients getting internal FQDN of newly installed Exchange 2013 CAS server as Outlook Anywhere Proxy address

Hello Folks,

I have this problem and is making me crazy if anyone have any idea please shed some light on this:-

1. Working Outlook 2010 and 2013 clients with webmail.xyz.com as Outlook Anywhere proxy address.

2. Installed new Exchange 2013 server (server02)with CAS and Mailbox role, Exchange install wizard finished and server is rebooted.

3. Server came up online started changing internal and external FQDN's of Virtual Directories and Outlook Anywhere to webmail.xyz.com

4. As soon as Fqdn's changed some outlook clients create support request that Outlook suddenly white's out and after reopening it is giving error  cannot connect to exchange. upon checking Clients Exchange Proxy address is set to http://server02.xyz.com, even though OA/OWA/ECP/OAB/EWS/Autodiscover/ActiveSync FQDN's Point to webmail.xyz.com, on all servers if i create new outlook profile for same user it picks up correct settings through autodiscover and connects fine, this is happening to about 20% of outlook clients every time i am introducing new Exchange 2013 server in Organization. we have around 2000 users and planning on installing 4 exchange servers to distribute load and everytime changing outlook profile of close to 150-200 users is not possible.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Cool

The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

Recently purchased a new laptop. Successfully installed and activated office 365 on Windows 8 Pro. Obtained all the exchange server settings (OWA), changed the IP address in the local host file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) , created and deleted multiple email profiles without success. After spending the whole day reading all the Q & As, this is my last resort.

I can log on to the Outlook Web App, but struggle to connect to the server via Outlook. It keeps on indicating that outlook must be online or connected.

Is there a way to configure Outlook from the Outlook Web App or check if outlook actually connects to the server?

Outlook 2010 - Change default behavior for removing message flag

$

Hi,

I am using Outlook 2010 and Win7 Ultimate. Mail account is connecting to Exchange 2013.  In the mail message list, if I left click a flagged message, the default behavior is to replace the flag with a check mark and list it as 'completed'. Is it possible to set this behavior to something else? I would like to left click and just have the flag cleared instead of marked as completed.

The issue the default behavior causes for me is with mobile devices and their mail apps. I have an Android phone with Aqua Mail. If I star a message in the Android mail app, the message gets flagged in Outlook next sync. That is fine. However, if the set flag is clicked in Outlook or the star cleared in the mobile mail app, the message gets the status change to 'completed' with a check mark. If I need to star the message again in the mobile mail app, it doesn't change the status from 'completed' in Outlook and Outlook never shows that the message has been flagged again. I have to manually right click the message in Outlook and select 'clear flag' for Outlook to register that the flag was set again in the mobile mail app.

So, I am wondering if there is a setting/registry change/addon that changes the behavior for left clicking a flagged message to simply clearing the flag instead of marking it as a completed task? Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. The message flag in Outlook 2010 only has all the 'rich flag options' when connected to Exchange accounts. IMAP accounts only have 'clear flag' as an option in Outlook 2010. Obviously, message flag sync doesn't work at all with POP accounts as Outlook maintains the data locally.

Thank You.

P.S. I do not have access to EMS/EMC for the Exchange 2013 server, so if there is a solution server-side, I would not be able to implement it.

OWA gives HTTP 500 error for several users

Exchange 2013 SP1. Since last week we have the issue that some users are getting an HTTP 500 Internal Server error when they access OWA from the internet after logging on. For other users it works fine. When the users who are having problems access OWA from internally they can logon fine. OWA authentication is set to Windows Integrated.

For external access OWA is published using TMG. No errors are reported in the eventlog of TMG or the Exchange server. Any idea what might cause this? Is there a way to get some more detailed information about the HTTP error 500?

I've checked the issue with inheritance on the AD user object, but the userobjects have inheritance enabled. Also, since it's Exchange 2013 it doesn't have the Form based authentication service which also might cause this error.

Any idea?

Frank.

OWA and IRM

Outlook (2010 SP2) and OWA (Exchange 2013 CU5) have different behavior when viewing a message secured with AD RMS.

I have enabled IRM successfully for internal use.  Viewing secured messages via Outlook works as expected.  The issue is when I view the message via OWA, I can see the body content.  The content is not protected, only attachments are protected.

A message that is intended to be protected but without attachments can be viewed via OWA even if it has been set to expire.  Viewing the same message in Outlook is prohibited, as it should be.

This seems like a bug since a user can get to secured content simply by using the web browser.  Is there a way around this or is this by design for some reason?

Hello,

I have my personal email account and one Info account I need to send email from. The Info account is also beeing used by my collegue from her computer and we need to see and read what we are sending to our clients from the Info account. But it doesn´t work like that now! If I answer an email from Info account, it doesn´t show up under Send emails from the Info account - it shows up under my personal Send emails. And this is wrong...

How can we do the setting so all emails from Info is under Send email folder for this account (Info) and NOT under our personal folder for sending email.

Best regards,

Camilla

The Microsoft Exchange Address Book was unable to log on to Exchange

I am currently migrating a exchange 2007 to exchange 2013.

Exchange 2013 is installed on a seperate Windows Server 2012 server.
Exhange 2007 is installed on a  seperate Windows Server 2003 R2 server.

I have moved some mailboxes from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 and also created some new mailboxes on the exchange 2013 server itself.

OWA, ActiveSync , IMAP are all working correctly for those mailboxes , but I am not able to connect to outlook with the exchange option (local connection).

Outlook 2013:

When I use autodiscover to connect to the exchange server step 1 & 2 are working correctly (establishing network connection & searching for mailbox settings) but on the 3th step (logging on to the mail server) I receive the following error

The name cannot be resolved. The Microsoft Exchange Address Book was unable to log on to Exchange. Contact you system administrator if the problem persists.

When I filll in the exchange server manually (using the normal servername server.hq.corp.domain.local not the guid version) the check name resolves correctly and the profile creation is finishing ok. But when I try to open outlook with that profile it gives me the following errors :

with cached exchange mode selected:
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook windows. The set of folders cannot be opened.
You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)

with cached exchange mode deselected:
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook windows. The set of folders cannot be opened.
Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance

When I use the Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer it fails on the following step:

Testing the address book "Check Name" operation for user user@domain.be against server guid@domain.be
An error occured while attempting to resolve the name. Elapsed Milliseconds: 91 Additional Details: The address book bind operation failed with status -2147221231. NSPI Status 2147746065

Exchange Auto Mapping

$

We run Exchange 2010 SP3 on prem (with Outlook 2010 and 2013), we have started experiencing auto mapping problems since we applied Rollup 6. It is affecting an increasing number of clients as well.

The main issue is that some users who had previous access to Shared Mailboxes working just fine have now "lost" access to the shared account folders. Outlook simply displays the client's personal folder structure instead of the folders belonging to the Shared mailbox. Properties of the Shared account Inbox actually point to the person's email address, not the shared mailbox one.

All attempts at remedying the situation failed, including recreating the profile, setting up on a new computer, cache vs non-cache mode. Even giving access to the Sahred mailbox to a new user will result with the same problem. The auto mapping attributes (msExchDelegateListLink and msExchDelegateListBL) check out fine as well. At a loss with this one. Note that the shared accounts are fine, accessing them via OWA for instance works just fine.

Finally, I noticed that auto mapping for our Outlook 2013 clients has stopped working altogether. Can this be related?

How to setup access to a Public Address Book containing several external contacts

$

Our company has several external suppliers and individuals with email addresses that need to be put into a central address book somehow within Exchange 2013.   This central or "public" address book then needs accessed by users using Outlook 2013.

However, despite trawling the Internet and TechNet the only articles show "mail enabled public folders" and "global address lists" for users within active directory.  We don't want a "mailbox" and we don't want a list of users!!

We simply need to have access to an address list that shows general suppliers that are not anything to do with the company.

Does Exchange have this facility? (it used to be available in SBS2003)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Few days ago a couple of company workers went to vacation. They set up OOF automatic replies in OWA 2013. However automatic replies are not working for external recipients (outside of company). Internal users (company users) receive OOF notification.

I'm using smart host in sender connector configuration (SMTP server of internet provider) to deliver emails. Any clues about this problem ? Please find below part of the transaction log. For testing purposes i set up administrator account to be on vacation.

Users inbox blank in Outlook 2010 SP2 on all computers, but visible in OWA and Activesync

User uses Outlook 2010 SP2 and her inbox is blank. New profile, even new computer she's never logged into has the same issue. All mail is visible in her other folders in Outlook, in addition to in OWA and activesync clients. I've created a rule in OWA to move all new mail that comes into her inbox into a new temporary folder in her mailbox, and that works as a temporary work around. outlook.exe /cleanviews and disabling all addins has no effect.

If I right click on the real inbox and click open in new window a message appears "cannot open the outlook window".

I thought maybe there was a corrupt message in her inbox so I moved everything from the last three weeks to a temporary folder through OWA, closed and reopened outlook on the client machine and same issue. The unread count is updating correctly on the broken mailbox however.

Thoughts?

Exchange 2007 - Outlook 2013 - IMAP - no items downloaded

Hello,

I am facing a weird issue.

I use outlook 2013 and I am trying to get IMAP working from Exchange 2007. Authentication looks right and when receiving mail, outlook takes i little while when "synchronizing". But no mail is ever loaded in any directory. In OWA it looks ok and mails are visible.

I have tried - download all mails in IMAP config, recreating account in client, view only subscribed folders/not, I don't have problematic KBs that were mentioned on few discussions.

Thanks for any advice.

Zoho Mail to Exchange migration

Hi,

We are looking to shift from Zoho Mail and Calendar to Exchange Online (Microsoft hosted).

What support can you offer to migrate all employees mail and calendar contents to Exchange? Does Microsoft offer this service or can you recommend a provider who does. This needs to be flawless as we can't risk losing information.

Thanks,

Martin

Secure Password Authentication for POP3

Does anyone know if it is possible to have the option "My server requires Secure Password Authentication" checked in Windows Live Mail.

I have a certificate installed on the server and the advanced features are already set to.

Port for Secure incoming mailserver: 995

This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" for both Incoming Server are checked.

Everything works fine when "My server requires Secure Password Authentication" is unchecked but when I check that I get the error:

Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'xxxxxxx@xxxxxxx.com', Server: 'mail.xxxxxxxx.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Command not implemented', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Exchange Version : 2013

If anyone can help it would realy be apreciated.

Filter Default GAL for OWA in Exchange 2013 CU5

$

We are currently running Exchange 2010 sp3 and have a setup where we are providing email services to independent contractors who connect to us for email primarily using webmail.  We do not wish for the contractors to see each other in their address books.  We have long used the MSExchQueryBaseDN attribute in AD to specify an OU which has just a couple of corporate mail contacts in it and this is what all users see as the only entries in their address list when using outlook web app.

I have stood up our Exchange 2013 CU5 environment and have moved a few test users over to it.  Unfortunately the directory does not even appear when composing a new message and brining up the address book (only the user's contacts appear).  If I return the MSExchQueryBaseDN attribute to NULL value, the directory appears with ALL objects in it of course.

I initially thought maybe this type of segregation was no longer supported in Exchange 2013, but I found that in fact there is a new powershell command to set it in 2013 (Set-Mailbox -Identity Test User -QueryBaseDN "OU=Corp,DC=Domain,DC=Root").  Previously we had to do this manually in AD.

Should this type of filtering still work?  Any ideas why I'm seeing the behavior I am?

Note that I realize this likely could be handled by doing the following, of which I would only do as a last resort:

1) I could create an ABP for every contractor with an address list that contains only them (if I was talking about a handful, this would be OK but not really viable for hundreds).

2) I've seen info out there on filtering the MsExchSearchBase of the Default Global Address List.  I could set this to my OU which contains just the corporate contacts I wish users to see.  I don't know if this would cause any other impact though to my webmail-only users.  I also have a small subset which connect using RPC over HTTPS and we have Address Book Policies setup for each of those offices so that they only see their own office in their Global Address List so I don't think these users would be impacted either, but wanted to throw it out there.

OWA option to search active and in-place archive with one search?

$

We've recently deployed Exchange 2013 SP1 as an upgrade from 2007.  We are using the In-Place Archive feature that Exchange 2013 has.  Using OWA however we do not seem to have the option to do a combined search of both the archive and active mailboxes.

This looks like it should be a possibility based on the screen shots seen here:
http://support.pa.msu.edu/howto.php?id=134

Specifically this one:
http://support.pa.msu.edu/images/owa/img6.png

Any thoughts as to why we seem to be missing this feature?  And let me know if you need any further info.

change password in OWA with UPN

$

Hi there!

All of you know the reg key to set to enable the feature that will allow users with expired passwords to change their password (orchange password at next logon).
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2010/10/06/so-you-want-to-change-your-expired-passwords-in-owa.aspx

On Exchange 2013 this key is set oob.

On Exchange 2010 SP1 RU3 this works fine with UPNs.

But on Exchange 2013 some of the old Problems are back! I am not able to change the Password while using UPN Logonname. Its not a Problem when using the pre-win2k logon domain\username.

UPNs still work fine for normal OWA logon.

Is there any way to resolve this issue?
On OWA virtual folder i set form based authentication to UPN.

Thanks alot and sorry for my english skills ;)
