Mapi over HTTP issue

$

Hi all!

Hope somebody can help me out. In my test lab, where I`m experimenting with Exchange 2013 SP1 and Outlook 2013 SP1 I came across very annoying thing.

Let me explain a little bit more about config that worked.

Outlook 2013 connected to Exchange 2013 via RPC over HTTPS is working great actually really great. I have created my own certs and imported ROOT CA cert to all of my machines and things are working peachy. As part of my plans for 2014 I have to test and deploy MAPI over HTTP sometime at the end of 2014 in our company (and migrate fromEX2007 but this is different story).

OK so I`ve enabled MAPI over HTTP on my test server and configured 5 virtual machines with different accounts to test things out. Started Outlooks, accepted "Your administrator has made change ....." prompts and here we go, I`m connected MAPI/HTTP and all works really great.

Except for one thing. When it does connect, things are super fast and it works as it should. But sometimes it does not connect right away and it is sluggish in performance. Also Outlook is missing "Quick steps" menu, see attached image:

I restarted all servers, clients, clean Outlook install nothing helps.

When RPC/HTTPS I could quit and start Outlook 10 times and it worked 10/10 without problems.
When MAPI/HTTP I restart outlook and it works 6/10, so 4 times I get messed up Outlook and very poor performance.

Any idea where to start troubleshooting? Maybe Outlook has a bug or 2 with this mode?
Server is correctly sized and backed up by enough of memory and CPU, mailboxes have 100-3500 items in them.
Again, RPC/HTTPS works every time without any problem.
MAPI/HTTP works lets say 6 times without any prolem at all and really works great but 4 times out of 10 it makes me want to throw it away :)

If someone knows best way to troubleshoot this one, please let me know.

G

Autodiscovery in exchange 2013

Hi,

We have newly implemented exchange 2013 infrastructure and while autodiscovery process of my outlook 2013 shows server name asGUID@domain.com. This wasn’t the case in exchange 2010.Through some Microsoft blogs I came to know that exchange 2013 doesn’t show server FQDN but it shows GUID@domain.com. And my questions are

Q1-what is the advantage of using guid@domain.com as server name during autodiscovery process?

Q2-Which GUID it is?

Meeting Organizer's Name Appears in the Subject line

I'm using outlook web access, provided by my Web-hosting provider.

I've a tricky problem, that I could not solve:
1) Make an appointment with subject line "Test"
2) add particpant: "somefriend@hisemail.com"
3) Now he receives an invitation with the subject line: "Organizer "N N" sends you an inviation for: Test"

Is this behaviour to change, i.e. the subject should be "Test" for my friend? Now his calendar is messed up with "organizer...."

everywhere.

Any hint to solve this problem, either client or server side, is appreciated.

Outlook 2013 (shared Contacts & Journals) Folder View

Environment:  Office 2013 Client (Office 365 E3)

I have shared Contacts & Journals, but they cannot see the shared Contacts & Journals from the Folders View (i.e. bottom of Outlook:  Mail, Calendar, People, Task,FOLDERS, etc).

Any ideas?

Why do I want them to see shared contacts and journals from the Folders view?  Because they would be able to drag and drop a contact to the Journal Folder and it will prepopulate the Journal with the contact info.

P.S. MSFT needs to bring back at lease the note capability of Journals, like it was in Office 2010 (e.g. right click on contact create Journal).

The attempt to ping the MAPI Mail Store endpoint endpoint failed

Hi,

We have just moved from Exchange 2010 to 2013 (completely new organisation/ad, there were lots of problems with the old one). All roles are performed by a single server (budgets). Everything went perfectly however Outlook cannot connect, creating a new profile finds the settings via Autodiscover (via 3rd party cert) but then the following error occurs:

(There were images before, but apparently I am not allowed to post any images so apologies for the typing out)

The action could not be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

The check name doesn't work and the account cannot be created (and from what I have read Exchange 2013 doesn't support non-autoconfigure connections anymore).

Before I enabled Outlook anywhere any Outlook connections would just constantly ask for credentials, however I can't go back now it seems. Does Exchange 2013 only support RPC via HTTP connections for Outlook? That is something new if true.

Then I checked https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/ and the following is displayed:

Attempting to ping the MAPI Mail Store enpoint with identity xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxx@domain.com:6000

The attempt to ping the endpoint failed

The RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE error (0x6ba) was thrown by the RPC Runtime process.

Cue some intensive Googling (sorry Binging?) and several suggestions were found to resolve the issue from various threads here and blog posts:

  • Add IP  SERVER to the hosts and lmhosts.sam files
  • Disable IPv6
  • edit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Rpc\RpcProxy\ValidPorts to everything I could think of:
  • NETBOIS:593;NETBOIS:49152-65535;FQDN:49152-65535;localhost:49152-65535;Outlook anywhere FQDN:49152-65535;
  • Telnet into port 6001, 6002 and 6004 from the server. This throws an interesting result:
  • Port 6001: ncacn_http/1.0 (which seems fine)
  • Port 6002: can't connect
  • Port 6004: can't connect

This looks to be my issue, but I can't see why it's not connecting and I don't know how to check any further. The other thing is the Remote Connection Analyser is looking for port 6001 and it can't connect.

Any help is much appreciated, I think I have tried everything I can think of and have reached the end of my intelligence.

Which version of Outlook can be used to access the In-Place Archive mailbox in Exchange 2013?

Apparently, some versions of Outlook can view the In-Place Mailbox in Exchange 2013 and others cannot. What to tell the customer regarding which versions of Outlook they can use in case they need to purchase a special version of Outlook. They already have several versions Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013 that came with their computers as part of Microsoft Office Home and Business.

Autodiscover fails after mailbox move

$

Hello,

Environment: existing exchange 2010 org, with new Exchange 2013 introduced. Clients are Outlook 2013. Clients can connect to all mailbox on the 2010 Server, also can connect to new mailboxes on the 2013 Server. But if I move an existing mailbox from the 2010 Server to the 2013 server Outlook cannot connect anymore, because autodiscover fails. Both servers use the same autodiscover settings, SCP contains the same URL.

TIA

Update: I've just installed an Outlook 2010 for testing purposes and it is working! From this point it may be rather a client side problem than a server side...

Mail client per Computer

Hi,

Got an unusual one that I hope people can help me with.

I manage the IT at a small school with 10 computers in an ICT classroom.

All PCs run 7 pro 64bit logging into a domain controlled by Server Standard FE running Exchange 2007.

There are 6 yeargroups that use the computers and they log in per year, i.e: year1, year2 etc.

There are also 10 user mailboxes on the server called student1, student2, etc.

What I would like to do is tie each one of the mailboxes to a separate PC, irrespective of what year has logged in to the PC.

So, PC1 runs mailbox Student1, no matter who logs in to it.

PC2 runs mailbox Student2 etc...

Is this possible?

Single OWA account error: The Active Directory resource couldn't be accessed.

I have a 2010 Exchange server set up with a small number of accounts set up.  I deleted a user account and then re-created it with the same credentials and found that I can no longer access the account from the OWA GUI, but can still access it through mobile devices. The OWA interface gives me the following message:

The Active Directory resource couldn't be accessed. This may be because the Active Directory object doesn't exist or the object has become corrupted, or because you don't have the correct permissions.

I searched around for a solution and tried the one here, but my account was not linked any LinkedMasterAccount. The results matched that of my other accounts that still work.

Any suggestion on what occurred so I can restore owa access?

Thanks

Default font keeps changing

I use the Outlook webapp. Everytime I reply to someone's email, my default font settings are completely ignored, and my text follows the settings of the person I am replying to. I hate frikin comic sans font. I don't want to ever have to look at it. Why can't I simply type anything and everything using my settings.

On a side note, why can't MS develop anything.. anything really.. which doesn't contain obvious moronic errors.

POP works via localhost but not from other networked machines

Hello All

I have three servers in an Exchange 2013 DAG.  Lets call them EX2013-MB1, MB2 and MB3.

I have configured POP Across the board.  All of a sudden the other day POP stopped working on MB1.  After some troubleshooting, if I launch a telnet session to port 110 from MB1, it connects and works fine.  Any other machine, nothing, connection immediately drops.

I have the firewall disabled, so it's not the firewall blocking the connection by any means.

Any ideas?  Below are my Get-PopSettings, and Test-PopConnectivity

Hello, one of our users is stating that when they make changes to meeting dates and/or times, a few minutes to a day later, the changes revert to the original date and/or time. Additionally, they will occasional also receive an email stating "Your meeting was found to be out of date and has been automatically updated."

This customer is on a Win7 client and running Outlook 2007. Both the OS and Office/Outlook are completely patched as of 08/12/2014. There are also a couple of iOS devices that access the Exchange account and both are running the latest version of iOS according to the customer.

The customer states that this behavior began immediately following our migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013 a couple of months back. I am not able to see any reason for this at the server level. We also do not currently have any other users complaining of the same issue. I am unable to replicate the issue using my account. I suspect that it is isolated to this single user at this point.

We are running Exchange v15, build 847.32.

Has anyone experienced the same? Thanks in advance for any input.

Exchange 3013 SP1 OWA copy-paste

Hello. We have Exchange 2013 SP1, and some users use OWA instead os Outlook. They are using windows 7/8.1 fully update with IE11. When they try to copy-paste a screen shot to an email in OWA the can't. Paste is disabled. Using Firefox they can paste but the recipient receives a part of the screenshot. Using Chrome copy-paste works fine.

Is it possible not to be able to use IE with a microsoft product? Is this a known bug? Any solution or a possible date?

Exchange 2013 Public Folders Contents missing

Greetings! We have recently, the last 45 days, migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013.  Last week, Wednesday evening, while moving Appassure backups from one repository to another our Public Folders went south after a required system reboot.  I can still see the folder structure and subfolders from both a command line and from Outlook, but I cannot see the actual contents of a contact list, a calendar, or a folder mail items.  Instead everyone gets a message telling them "There are no items to show in this view."  while a constant search is being preformed.

Using the command Get-PublicFolderStatistics I get the IPM_SUBTREE Item count as Zero.  Yet when I preform the command Get-Mailbox -PublicFolder | FL Name,ExchangeGuid I get the name : PFMBX01 with an ExchangeGuid of c5d6cc8f-f406-41aa-a1ad-2a5f6b757deb.

We have backups on the old backup Appassure server, but I cannot locate anything resembling PFMBX01.  I need to find a way to locate those items either on the server or on the backups.  Last week was of course Microsoft Tuesday.  Is it possible that an update could have caused the contents of the mailboxes to disappear?

Can my need be solved with a group calendar or any other function in Exchange/Outlook?

$

I will try to express our need for our "Project Office" and is interested in how this can be solved using Outlook/Exchange.

Our Project Office is in charge of several Projects and the Project Office Manager is interested to have a single calendar view with all activities for the different Projects.

The Project leaders and the Project Office Manager also have other activities that they don't want to show up in the Project Office calendar. They do not want to register activities two times, one in the personal calendar and one in the Project Office calendar.

A possible scenario could be to handle the Project Office calendar as a resource or aaddressee that can be included in those activities that should be included in the Project Office calendar (with the difference that double bookings should be allowed).

Scenario:

Project Manager 1 invites to a steering group meeting for project A. She invites all participants, a room and the "Project Office calendar"

Project manager 2 invites to a sprint demo for project B. He invites all participants, a room and also the "Project Office calendar"

The Project Office manager (and others) can see all activities in the Project Office calendar. They can also use the calendar for planning so that important activities will not collide.

Thanks for ideas in how to realize this scenario.

OWA and IRM

Outlook (2010 SP2) and OWA (Exchange 2013 CU5) have different behavior when viewing a message secured with AD RMS.

I have enabled IRM successfully for internal use.  Viewing secured messages via Outlook works as expected.  The issue is when I view the message via OWA, I can see the body content.  The content is not protected, only attachments are protected.

A message that is intended to be protected but without attachments can be viewed via OWA even if it has been set to expire.  Viewing the same message in Outlook is prohibited, as it should be.

This seems like a bug since a user can get to secured content simply by using the web browser.  Is there a way around this or is this by design for some reason?
