Mapi over HTTP issue

$

Hi all!

Hope somebody can help me out. In my test lab, where I`m experimenting with Exchange 2013 SP1 and Outlook 2013 SP1 I came across very annoying thing.

Let me explain a little bit more about config that worked.

Outlook 2013 connected to Exchange 2013 via RPC over HTTPS is working great actually really great. I have created my own certs and imported ROOT CA cert to all of my machines and things are working peachy. As part of my plans for 2014 I have to test and deploy MAPI over HTTP sometime at the end of 2014 in our company (and migrate fromEX2007 but this is different story).

OK so I`ve enabled MAPI over HTTP on my test server and configured 5 virtual machines with different accounts to test things out. Started Outlooks, accepted "Your administrator has made change ....." prompts and here we go, I`m connected MAPI/HTTP and all works really great.

Except for one thing. When it does connect, things are super fast and it works as it should. But sometimes it does not connect right away and it is sluggish in performance. Also Outlook is missing "Quick steps" menu, see attached image:

I restarted all servers, clients, clean Outlook install nothing helps.

When RPC/HTTPS I could quit and start Outlook 10 times and it worked 10/10 without problems.
When MAPI/HTTP I restart outlook and it works 6/10, so 4 times I get messed up Outlook and very poor performance.

Any idea where to start troubleshooting? Maybe Outlook has a bug or 2 with this mode?
Server is correctly sized and backed up by enough of memory and CPU, mailboxes have 100-3500 items in them.
Again, RPC/HTTPS works every time without any problem.
MAPI/HTTP works lets say 6 times without any prolem at all and really works great but 4 times out of 10 it makes me want to throw it away :)

If someone knows best way to troubleshoot this one, please let me know.

Outlook 2010 clients cannot access their Online Archive mailbox in Exchange 2013??

Hello,

I have an issue where my Outlook 2010user cannot see/access their Archive mailbox when they are migrated from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.

Both the live and archive mailbox is in Exchange 2013, the user can launch Outlook but if they click on their Archive mailbox it is unavailable.

Once the user is upgraded to SP2 or Outlook 2013 they have no issues accessing their archive mailbox.

These users have the minimum required Outlook version (14.0.6126.5000),they are running 14.0.6129.5000.

Is there a different requirement on the Outlook client if the user has an archive mailbox in Exchange 2013 as well?

Thank you.

"Trying to Connect" in Outlook

We recently migrated from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 SP1.  During the migration, when we migrated hundreds of users, new and existing clients would get kicked out of email and get the "Trying to Connect" message in Outlook.  Now that we are done with the migration, on premise btw, we occasionally get this error.  Mgmt is getting really frustrated with this issue that seems to never get a resolution for.  Here is current configuration

3 cas server load balanced behind the Citrix Netscalers all virtualized on VMWare 5.0 U2

all URLS point to the VIP on the netscalers all virtualized on VMWare Vmware 5.0 U2

4 mbx servers in a DAG that spans two datacenters. The second data center is our HA environment.  NO users run out of the second data center.

All servers are running windows 2012 R2.  13k mailboxes

SMTP traffic also runs through the Citrix Netscalers.

We have already opened a ticket with Microsoft, citrix and vmware.  Although we have found some issues, they have been resolved but the issue still exists.

We have run out of options on how to troubleshoot this.

Anyone seen anything like this?

Thank you

change password in OWA with UPN

Hi there!

All of you know the reg key to set to enable the feature that will allow users with expired passwords to change their password (orchange password at next logon).
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2010/10/06/so-you-want-to-change-your-expired-passwords-in-owa.aspx

On Exchange 2013 this key is set oob.

On Exchange 2010 SP1 RU3 this works fine with UPNs.

But on Exchange 2013 some of the old Problems are back! I am not able to change the Password while using UPN Logonname. Its not a Problem when using the pre-win2k logon domain\username.

UPNs still work fine for normal OWA logon.

Is there any way to resolve this issue?
On OWA virtual folder i set form based authentication to UPN.

Thanks alot and sorry for my english skills ;)

Outlook 2010 - Change default behavior for removing message flag

$

Hi,

I am using Outlook 2010 and Win7 Ultimate. Mail account is connecting to Exchange 2013.  In the mail message list, if I left click a flagged message, the default behavior is to replace the flag with a check mark and list it as 'completed'. Is it possible to set this behavior to something else? I would like to left click and just have the flag cleared instead of marked as completed.

The issue the default behavior causes for me is with mobile devices and their mail apps. I have an Android phone with Aqua Mail. If I star a message in the Android mail app, the message gets flagged in Outlook next sync. That is fine. However, if the set flag is clicked in Outlook or the star cleared in the mobile mail app, the message gets the status change to 'completed' with a check mark. If I need to star the message again in the mobile mail app, it doesn't change the status from 'completed' in Outlook and Outlook never shows that the message has been flagged again. I have to manually right click the message in Outlook and select 'clear flag' for Outlook to register that the flag was set again in the mobile mail app.

So, I am wondering if there is a setting/registry change/addon that changes the behavior for left clicking a flagged message to simply clearing the flag instead of marking it as a completed task? Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. The message flag in Outlook 2010 only has all the 'rich flag options' when connected to Exchange accounts. IMAP accounts only have 'clear flag' as an option in Outlook 2010. Obviously, message flag sync doesn't work at all with POP accounts as Outlook maintains the data locally.

Thank You.

P.S. I do not have access to EMS/EMC for the Exchange 2013 server, so if there is a solution server-side, I would not be able to implement it.

I have spent £219 on Office Business in order to get Outlook which has previously been included in Office Home and Student. I am finding it impossible to open Outlook. I am told Microsoft Exchange is unavailable and Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action. None of the 'help' instruction I've tried has worked. Have I wasted my money?

Outlook cannot connect to Exchange 2013 issue (without manually specifying DS Server in registry??!)

Hello,

I recently upgraded my environment from Exchange 2010 SP2 to Exchange 2013 SP1 CU5.

My end users are a mix of Office 2010 SP1 and Office 2013 and we have various remote sites that have a local AD/DNS/DHCP server against which the remote clients authenticate, etc.

My issue is that one particular site that has AD/DNS, some clients are unable to connect to Exchange using Outlook. The message they get is "Exchange server unavailable".

When I try to re-create their profile, I am unable to "autodiscover" it. We use Split DNS configuration for Exchange as recommended by MS. I can resolve the server internally to the internal IP (traceroute and ping) from the affected client.

The only way I can get the client Outlook to work is if I manually add "DS Server" in the registry (http://www.msoutlook.info/question/531) and point to the DC that is local to the Exchange server (and not their remote site DC).

My question here is, why can't this client computer detect the GC? I want to fix the issue at the core and not use registry hacks to get Outlook to work.

What should I test for or check? I verified the remote site DC is set as a "GC" in AD Sites and Services so what is the issue?? The remote site is a Windows 2003 R2 server and our domain functionality is 2013.

The site that Exchange is in we have 2 DCs and both are GCs as well.

Thank you.

XLSM files blocked through OWA even though allowed in virtual directory setting

I checked the virtual directory settings through powershell and xlsm files are in the allowed file types list.  We don't do the public/private setting so everyone connects through the public option.  I've tried adding the OWA URL to intranet and trusted websites.

The xlsm attachment icon is greyed out and I get the "Access to this attachment is blocked" message when clicking on the icon. What am I missing?

Can't log into Exchange 2013 Exchange Admin Center

We are in the process of upgrading from Exchange 2007 to 2013.  Exchange is installed on Server 2012 R2.  We are the coexistence stage and cannot log into the EAC.  We can get to the login screen but when you enter a username and password the screen blinks then clears the password field.  No error message appears.  If you put in the incorrect password a message will appear stating invalid username or password.  We have not yet been able to log into the EAC successfully.

We have tried removing then rebuilding the ECP directory but the issue still remains.  We have tried adding ecp?ExchClientVer=15 to the URL without success.  We have also tried creating a new account that was a member of Organization Management group but that account couldn't log into the EAC either.  There are no events in the event viewer that relate to these failed logins.

I'm really not sure what to go next so any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

When connected to Exchange 2013, using Outlook 2013 from Pro Plus, when you search "all mailboxes" does it search the in-place archive also?

$

As folks migrate to Exchange 2013 and use the in-place archive (aka online archive) using a supported version of Outlook (which I find a bit confusing as to which versions are able to view in-place archive), so people may reluctantly allow old email to be moved to the in-place archive.

They will ask if when they search for key words and select "all mailboxes", does the search also search the in-place archive?

"Your meeting was found to be out of date and has been automatically updated."

Hello, one of our users is stating that when they make changes to meeting dates and/or times, a few minutes to a day later, the changes revert to the original date and/or time. Additionally, they will occasional also receive an email stating "Your meeting was found to be out of date and has been automatically updated."

This customer is on a Win7 client and running Outlook 2007. Both the OS and Office/Outlook are completely patched as of 08/12/2014. There are also a couple of iOS devices that access the Exchange account and both are running the latest version of iOS according to the customer.

The customer states that this behavior began immediately following our migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013 a couple of months back. I am not able to see any reason for this at the server level. We also do not currently have any other users complaining of the same issue. I am unable to replicate the issue using my account. I suspect that it is isolated to this single user at this point.

We are running Exchange v15, build 847.32.

Has anyone experienced the same? Thanks in advance for any input.

http to https redirect for OWA

I'm currently running Exchange 2007 and 2013 (coexistence). Everything with that is fine other than I need to redirect internal/externalhttp://mail.domain.com/owa to https://mail.domain.com/owa.  I have tried a couple different options.

1. Setting iisstart.htm http redirect to https://mail.domain.com/owa

2. Configuring Default Web Site with the same configuration for http redirect.

When I try to that name internally I get a http 403 error.  Let me know if you need me to provide more information.

Thanks

iOS OWA fails after password change using Outlook in Office 365

Using OWA on ipad running latest iOS.  Outlook is in office365 running hybrid mode with our on premises exchange 2010/AD 2010

When I change my password, OWA for ipad stupidly just continuously fails to connect.  No prompt for a password, nothing.  there's no setting I can see to re-enter credentials, so I'm forced to go into the application settings and wipe everything.  once that's been done and I re-enter my details everything works as it should until my next password change.

Nobody else seems to be complaining about this though?  Is it just us?

As is, it's not an experience I can recommend to our general population!

additional: seems this is not just OWA for iPad.  standard iPad email seemed to do it last time too.

How do external user Outlook Anywhere profiles get new server settings after migration from Exchange 2010 to 2013?

$

I recently migrated external users that connect to my org across the Internet from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.  In Exchange 2010, I had a CAS Array called outlook.DOMAIN.com and these external users had this defined as the Exchange Server in their Outlook Anywhere profiles (of course in the proxy settings they had my Internet-facing CAS server defined - owa.DOMAIN.com).

Post-migration the users are unable to connect to Exchange when launching Outlook.  The only solution I have found thus far is to have them repair their Outlook profile and grab the new settings via Autodiscover (outlook.DOMAIN.com is now replaced with a long GUID in the Exchange Server portion of the mail profile).

My question:  Is there some configuration that allows these external users to get the new settings when attempting to connect to that old CAS Array name, or is the only solution to have everyone repair their profiles?

Hi,

Few days ago a couple of company workers went to vacation. They set up OOF automatic replies in OWA 2013. However automatic replies are not working for external recipients (outside of company). Internal users (company users) receive OOF notification.

I'm using smart host in sender connector configuration (SMTP server of internet provider) to deliver emails. Any clues about this problem ? Please find below part of the transaction log. For testing purposes i set up administrator account to be on vacation.

Delegate Question in Outlook 2010

$

Hello,

I have a question regarding delegation within Outlook 2010. Here is my example of what is going on.

User A is a delegate of User B.

User A sends meeting invite to User C on behalf of User B.

User C replies to message with email response instead of accepting meeting (User B name in "to" field automatically)

User B receives email reply instead of User A.

Basically we have a user in our organization that keeps receiving a response to a meeting invite who has a delegate that handles her meetings. If the user who received the meeting invite has a question such as "where is her office located" that email doesn't go to the delegate, it goes to the person who it was sent on behalf of.

Is there any way around this or is this just the way it works? The user claims it has just started happening the past few months, but I ran a test here at my office with three users in the same situation as above and it worked exactly like listed in my first scenario to where the meeting it was sent on behalf of received a reply from the invitee. However to add to the confusion, the delegate that takes care of her meetings also supports other people, and she says she does not get these replies from users like she does for this particular user she supports.

I believe we are on Exchange 2007 and are in process of migrating to Exchange 2013.

Thanks in advance for the assistance,

TB

Exchange Co-Existence and virtual directories

$

We are currently running Exchange 2007, 2010 and 2013 in the same site. Our external connections point to our production namespace (company.domain.com) which is our 2013 CAS servers. We have a legacy namespace for our 2007 environment. Our 2010 server have no mailboxes and will not be used, it has it's own namespace. We have one mailbox that 5 ad accounts access, They do not have their own mailboxes they all access this one. It always worked withhttps://mail.domain.com/owa/username@domain.com. Since we moved our connections to 2013 they can no longer login to this account. They get the error "Outlook Web Access could not find a mailbox for EXCHANGE\Administrator. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization and tell them the following: The mailbox may be stored on a Microsoft Exchange 2000 or Microsoft Exchange 2003 server, or the Active Directory user account was created recently and has not yet replicated to the Active Directory site where this Client Access server is hosted."

Any assistance appreciated.

Outlook 2010 client calendar displaying /O= /OU=

I have an Outlook 2010 end user who suddenly in his calendar when he creates a new entry, rather than showing his Display Name as it should, it shows /O=COMPANY NAME/OU=OU/etc, etc.

This just started recently, he's been on Outlook 2010 for over  a year now. His mailbox hasn't changed databases, none of the common culprits I can think of. Has anyone else run into this and found a solution?

Thanks!
