Out of office replies in Exchange 2013 not working for external recipients

Hi,

Few days ago a couple of company workers went to vacation. They set up OOF automatic replies in OWA 2013. However automatic replies are not working for external recipients (outside of company). Internal users (company users) receive OOF notification.

I'm using smart host in sender connector configuration (SMTP server of internet provider) to deliver emails. Any clues about this problem ? Please find below part of the transaction log. For testing purposes i set up administrator account to be on vacation.

Outlook 2013 - Contacts folder sorted by Category

We have a public folder containing our entire company's rolodex.  We are a General Contractor, so each contact is categorized by type of company e.g: electrical, masonry, plumbing. etc..
When viewing the contact folder in "List" view, we sort it by category in order to quickly see each grouping.  These are listed alphabetically.  When you scroll down and open a particular group, the screen returns to the top of the listing instead of leaving you at the group you opened.  This is very frustrating when you are opening up "plumbing" and you have to then scroll alphabetically back down to that group from the very beginning.

Why is it doing this?  And how can this be stopped?

Hi

I installed a 2013 SP1 Server in our domain where also exists a 2010 Server and a 2010 edge.

On the new server I get a "something went wrong" when I open OWA page. ECP works correct. I get the error with new mailboxes as well as mit migrated mailboxes.

The exact error is:

Just single server. I checked the certificate in IIS, it is the cert for the FQDN of the server, created by our internal CA.

Same error with IE and Firefox.

Thanks for help

Meeting Reminders for Shared Calendars

My team of 3 oversee approximately 10 shared calendars for our department.  I do not want to see the meeting reminders that appear hourly but one of my co-workers does.  Any way I can turn them off for just me?  We are on Microsoft exchange and using Microsoft Outlook 2010.

Office Web Apps 2013

I've got a brand new Exchange 2013 CU2 farm set up, 2 CAS servers and 2 mailbox servers in a DAG and I'm trying to add an Office Web Apps 2013 server into the mix. First, can someone give me a reason why we would want or need an Office Web Apps server, if all that's integrating with it is Exchange? From what I've read, it only offers Office document previews, but it appears to already have that functionality. Does it offer editing capability?

Second, I've followed all the guides I can find on integrating OWA (there has to be a better acronym for this) and Exchange, but I'm still getting errors when I try to preview an attachment.

For Word, it says "Sorry, there was a problem and we can't open this document." For Excel, it gives an ASP-style error that says "Server Error in '/x' Application" behind the words "Excel Web App" and a continuous progress bar. For Powerpoint, it says "Sorry, we couldn't open this presentation because we ran into a problem."

I've tried building a new OWA server, running 2012 R2 and all the updates, and the only commands I've run on the OWA server are "New-OfficeWebAppsFarm", giving the internal URL, the external URL, enabling editing, and giving the friendly name of the certificate (which is a valid cert). On the Exchange side, I've run "Set-OrganizationConfig -WACDiscoveryEndpoint 'https://fqdn-of-owa-server'" and "Set-OwaVirtualDirectory -WacViewingOnPublicComputersEnabled $true -WacViewingOnPrivateComputersEnabled $true -ForceWacViewingFirstOnPublicComputers $true -ForceWacViewingFirstOnPrivateComputers $true" for both CAS servers.

I've also tried it from different browsers, and added the OWA URL to the Trusted Sites in IE10 and IE11, but no dice.

Am I missing something? Even if I get the integration to work, what benefit does it give me?

Outlook 2011 for Mac users must click send/receive to get new mail from exchange 2013 server

I recently switched our primary CAS servers over from a single exchange 2010 cas/mailbox/hub server to a couple new exchange 2013 CAS/Mailbox servers.  Exchange 2013 has cu3, and is hosted on windows server 2012.  Anyone who has their mailbox hosted on one of these exchange 2013 servers has an issue where they must click the send/receive button to get new messages downloaded to their client. This is only the case for outlook 2011 for mac client.  Activesync clients, mac mail, OWA, and Outlook 2010/13 all behave normally.

Where can I look or what can I check to troubleshoot this issue?

Filter Default GAL for OWA in Exchange 2013 CU5

We are currently running Exchange 2010 sp3 and have a setup where we are providing email services to independent contractors who connect to us for email primarily using webmail.  We do not wish for the contractors to see each other in their address books.  We have long used the MSExchQueryBaseDN attribute in AD to specify an OU which has just a couple of corporate mail contacts in it and this is what all users see as the only entries in their address list when using outlook web app.

I have stood up our Exchange 2013 CU5 environment and have moved a few test users over to it.  Unfortunately the directory does not even appear when composing a new message and brining up the address book (only the user's contacts appear).  If I return the MSExchQueryBaseDN attribute to NULL value, the directory appears with ALL objects in it of course.

I initially thought maybe this type of segregation was no longer supported in Exchange 2013, but I found that in fact there is a new powershell command to set it in 2013 (Set-Mailbox -Identity Test User -QueryBaseDN "OU=Corp,DC=Domain,DC=Root").  Previously we had to do this manually in AD.

Should this type of filtering still work?  Any ideas why I'm seeing the behavior I am?

Note that I realize this likely could be handled by doing the following, of which I would only do as a last resort:

1) I could create an ABP for every contractor with an address list that contains only them (if I was talking about a handful, this would be OK but not really viable for hundreds).

2) I've seen info out there on filtering the MsExchSearchBase of the Default Global Address List.  I could set this to my OU which contains just the corporate contacts I wish users to see.  I don't know if this would cause any other impact though to my webmail-only users.  I also have a small subset which connect using RPC over HTTPS and we have Address Book Policies setup for each of those offices so that they only see their own office in their Global Address List so I don't think these users would be impacted either, but wanted to throw it out there.

Exchange Office Web Apps Preview Does not work in OWA (web)

I have setup Exchange 2013, Lync 2013, SharePoint 2013, IIS as a Reverse Proxy Server, an Office Web Apps Server, etc, etc. Everything is setup to use SSl (https) and everything works great EXCEPT... Office Web Apps... and ONLY via Exchange and OWA (exchange browser-based access).

I can login via the intranet or Internet for everything (SharePoint, Outlook, and Lync) and Office Web apps functionality works flawlessly for all... except for Exchange and OWA.

If I login in to a web-based Exchange seeion, everything works right and I can see the various attachments.

For all other scenarios, Office Web Apps works (SharePoint, Outlook, Lync, etc), but in owa (web version of Outlook) I see that Office Web Apps is triggered (I see the Office Web Apps text and the dots that indicate something is loading)... However, it just crashes and eventually times out (see image):

If I look in the error logs for the Web Apps Server I see this:

Essentially, it looks like that owa uses a distinctly different path to load the attachments into the Web Apps Server such that the file is not found!

What is happening? Why does Exchange OWA (web version of Outlook) somehow use a different path that fails to locate  attachments in Office Web Apps, but Lync, Outlook, and SharePoint (both in Intranet and Internet) work perfectly?

This is VERY frustrating. Can anyone help?

Please?

Clearly, the reverse proxy is working, the certificates are working, OAuth is working, etc. It seems there must be some variable/path that is only defined in Exchange for OWA that uses a different path for Office Web App attachments and that path is WRONG!

Please, help!

Thanks

Outlook Quick Step order of execution is broken

$

I have implemented Getting Things Done using Outlook at work and it's been working wonderfully for me. I'm currently on Office 2010.

I have Quick Steps configured that do the following:

1. Categorize the message

2. Create Task with message as attachment

3. Delete the message

The result of this was a new task that was already categorized exactly as I want it.

However, all of a sudden, the Quick Step has decided to start executing these three commands in a different order. First it creates the Task (without a category) and then deletes/categorizes the message. The deleted message is categorized appropriately. No matter whether I use the shortcut keys or click the Quick Step button, this incorrect order of execution is occurring. I have restarted Outlook and even deleted/re-created new rules, but the same issue is occurring.

This is driving me crazy. It is clearly some type of bug deep in the code. If anyone can track this down or has any pointers, that would be great!

Sharing Outlook Contacts: Adding contact to a Contact Group in another users folder

I have access to another user's contacts. I need to create a group for the other user.

The contacts that need to be in the group are in the other user's contacts.

I have created the group and was able to add some contacts to the group, but I cannot add the others that need to be in the group even though they are in the other user's contacts. Why is this and how do I resolve this issue?

Outlook 2013 Won't Sync Consistently with Exchange 365 Server

Hello,

I have a Win 7 Pro laptop running Office 365 Pro Plus, and Outlook 2013 is part of that package.  For some reason, Outlook isn't syncing to the Exchange 365 server.  Even though it says "Connected" at the bottom, and that "All Folders Are Up to Date", I'm still not getting a full sync.  Example: I can delete a message from my inbox on my Win 7 computer, yet the message doesn't delete from the Outlook Web App, or my iPhone or iPad.  Or, I can delete a message from my iPad or iPhone, and it will delete on Outlook Web App but not on my laptop running Outlook.  In other words, my Win 7 PC running Outlook is the odd man out.  My iOS devices and the Outlook Web App always seem to be in sync.

I did notice that at the bottom of the message list in my inbox in Outlook, there's a link telling me "there are more messages on the server".  I click that link, and it takes a few seconds for my inbox messages to update.  Once they do, I see messages I've already deleted before.  This tends to improve the sync function as well, but only temporarily.

I did try to repair my profile by going to File --> Account Settings and then choosing Repair.  That didn't really seem to change anything.

I also tried running a full Office 365 repair in Add/Remove Programs, but that didn't fix it either.

I have downloaded and installed all of the latest updates from Microsoft Update.  Not really sure where else to look.

Outlook Authentication Prompts

Having a lot of problems with Outlook 2010/2013 authentication prompts. Client is migrating from EX 2010 and going to onsite EX 2013. Both Outlook 2010 & 2013 get the prompts. At this point in the migration, all internal DNS records point to the load balancer which goes to the 2013 DAG environment. I have verified the Outlook Anywhere settings on 2013 about 100 times.

External Host Name and Internal Host Name are identical: mail.company.com

External/Internal ClientAuthenticationMethods NTLM

IISAuthenticationMethods {Basic, NTLM, Negotiate}

Require SSL is true for both External/Internal

I have tried many things already, but I am still getting prompted. However, when I modify the local Hosts file to point to Exchange 2010 directly (for those users who are still on 2010), I get no prompts at all.

I have also tried pointing the hosts file to the 2013 servers directly, bypassing the load balancer and the prompts still happen. So, it is not the load balancer.

Thoughts?

Exchange server 2013 proxy authentication

$

Hi All,

I wanted to know what is the recommended proxy authentication for exchange server 2013.

I have observed the following from different proxy authentications:

1. Negotiate: By default, the proxy authentication is set to negotiate and uses anonymous as Log on network security(un-encrypted MAPI)

2. Basic: It always prompts for the user credentials and uses encrypted MAPI.

3. NTLM: Use negotiate at MAPI level by default

Please provide me some information on different authentication mechanisms and the one which is recommended to use.

Thanks,

Srinivas.

Hi all,

lately we been experiencing that some users Outlook takes some minutes before it success Connection to Exchange (2013),At bottom right corner of Outlook it says trying to Connect and will freeze/hang if try to click or mark another folder. Most of the times it Connects after 2-3 minutes. It started this week and for other users there are no issues at all. When try to add share mailboxes it also take 2-3 minutes after you hit ok.Both Windows (8 and 8.1) and Outlook (2013) have latest updates.

Network Department said they have implemented teredo, but that shouldnt be the cause of problem.

Any ideas?

XLSM files blocked through OWA even though allowed in virtual directory setting

I checked the virtual directory settings through powershell and xlsm files are in the allowed file types list.  We don't do the public/private setting so everyone connects through the public option.  I've tried adding the OWA URL to intranet and trusted websites.

The xlsm attachment icon is greyed out and I get the "Access to this attachment is blocked" message when clicking on the icon. What am I missing?

OWA 2013 Apps in shared mailbox

$

Exchange 2013 SP1: Whenever I open my own mailbox in OWA (2013), I can see the 'Apps Bar' at the top of the email (such as Bing maps, Action Items etc) - but when I (or anyone else in the org) goes to 'Open another mailbox' that they have full access permissions to, this App bar disappears as soon as the other mailbox loads. This causes an issue for us as one of the apps is Symantec Enterprise Vault. The same thing appears to happen in the full Outlook 2013 client as well.

Is there any way to make the App Bar appear when opening another mailbox?

Thanks in advance.

My Outlook 2013 was purchased from Microsoft in Sept of 2013.  It just stopped working this last week, and says it needs to be reinstalled.  The program was downloaded so I do not have a disc.  What do I do?
