How to use SMIME in OWA for External Recipeints

$

0

Hello,

       I am using a hybrid on premises active directory with office 365 environment with AD synced to office 365 using DIRSYNC. We are trying to achieve being able to send encrypted emails to clients using SMIME in OWA. We have used certutil to import certificates for some internal users which seems to let you send an encrypted email to them. However when creating a contact in AD for the external user and successfully importing the cert (you can see it in the userCertificate and userSMIMECertificate attribute in the object)  we are unable to email the recipient with an encrypted email as OWA cannot find the certificate. Also the internal users certificates appear in theirs entries in the GAL however the external contacts do not have their certificate included.

Could someone advise me how to use OWA to send SMIME encrypted emails to external recipients. You can't add a certificate to a contact in OWA as far as I can see.

Many Thanks

Paul

Outlook 2013 new mail indicator lingers

The issue is the new mail indicator (Inbox- 1) will go away when items are marked as read or deleted but will return after a couple of second to the original folder. If you close outlook and reopen the indicator will be gone for good.

The environment is Exchange 2010 SP3, Outlook 2013 client, with cached mode enabled to speed up the process.

Room Finder: Switching between room lists

We have encountered an issue where we have about 15 room lists in our Room Finder. The room lists are divided up via office.

Let's say the user wants to book a 3 way video call in Site A, Site B, and Site C.

They go to the Site A room list. They pick a room. Then, when they click Site B room list, the room disappears from the To: andLocation: fields.

I am not sure if this is by design or not. I am not able to test in a lab as our lab is not yet complete. Can anyone reproduce something similar, and is it by design?

Outlook 2013 SP1 MAPI over HTTP performance issue non-cached mode, mail stuck outbox

Logged into a terminal server so we do not want cached mode.  We had been using RPC/HTTPS previously and it seemed to work pretty well.  After upgrading to SP1 and enabling the MAPI/HTTP connection and performing the app pool config changed in the release notes we are still seeing performance issues.  One issue that happens often is sent mail will stick in the Outbox.  If we restart outlook, edit the message and such and resend it will eventually work but if users are not looking for this it may never be sent.  Another issue is there are times where the client will hang for half a minute or so when trying to open e-mails from popup notifications, sometimes failing and causing us to have to retry after which it succeeds.  CAS server has 12GB RAM and is using less than half of it; not seeing high CPU utilization either.  Connections appear to be fine when looking at the Status in Outlook with only 1 or 2 failed requests, and average responses of about 40-50.  It reports build is 15.0.847.30 which doesn't seem to be the most current.

Corrupt summary TNEF content - Error 5.6.0

Hi,

We are on Exchange 2013 CU3, and users are unable to send email when a message .msg file is used to create the email via outlook.

The error message when sent to external (outside our exchange server realm) is :

   Diagnostic code = ContentTypeUnsupported; Reason code = TransferFailed; Status code = 560

     < #5.6.0 smtp;550 5.6.0 M2MCVT.StorageError; storage error in content conversion

Error when sending to internal users on exchange.

Remote Server returned '554 5.6.0 Corrupt message content; STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:ConversionFailedException; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message Content conversion: Corrupt summary TNEF content. ConversionFailedException: Content conversion: Corrupt summary TNEF content. [Stage: CreateReplay]'

I looked on this forum itself and these errors existed it seems prior to 2013 as well, looks like its back in 2013 ? Would the CU 5 update deal with these issues because i almost think that upgrading to CU5 should resolve it unless there is some connector issues where we are dealing with.

Thanks

OWA option to search active and in-place archive with one search?

We've recently deployed Exchange 2013 SP1 as an upgrade from 2007.  We are using the In-Place Archive feature that Exchange 2013 has.  Using OWA however we do not seem to have the option to do a combined search of both the archive and active mailboxes.

This looks like it should be a possibility based on the screen shots seen here:
http://support.pa.msu.edu/howto.php?id=134

Specifically this one:

Any thoughts as to why we seem to be missing this feature?  And let me know if you need any further info.

Hello Friends,

We are not able to access OWA from both Intranet and Internet. Similarly Autodiscover site is also not working. we configuredhttps://webmail.XXX.XX.com for both. But email routing is fine between HUB/Mailbox role servers.

We are able to open the OWA front page from internet, but after providing the credentials it’s not working. getting the error message as below: Error code 64 : host not Available Background: The connection to the web server was lost.

Alos we are getting the below warning in our CAS servers constantly.

A process serving application pool 'MSExchangeSyncAppPool' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was '6112'. The data field contains the error number.

A process serving application pool 'MSExchangeAutodiscoverAppPool' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was '2832'. The data field contains the error number.

A process serving application pool 'MSExchangeOWAAppPool' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '4364'. The process exit code was '0x1'.

A process serving application pool 'MSExchangeServicesAppPool' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '3428'. The process exit code was '0x1'.

A process serving application pool 'MSExchangeOWAAppPool' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '4364'. The process exit code was '0x1'.

When We open EMC in one of the , we are not able to see anything on "Server Configuration" tab..refer the screens shot. we are able to see the HUB/CAS server details through Mailbox Role Server.

  Following has been done:                                                                                                                                            1.Both HUB/CAS servers has been rebooted, but still not fixed.                                                                                                                                                                               2. Exchange SSL certificate[https://webmail.XXX.XX.com ] is valid for till next year Nov15.

 Please Advice anything to fix this OWA and Autodiscoverer

Email Sender's display name not displaying/resolving on internal emails with POP/IMAP clients

$

Here's the scenario. I have two 2013 test accounts setup in Outlook as POP/SMTP accounts. I have their name setup as initials in the outlook account (the "Your Name" field).  If I send an email (Through SMTP) to a 2013 Exchange(Outlook Anywhere) client, their names resolve to their actual Display Name in the GAL which is correct.  Now if I send an email to another 2013 POP/IMAP user, their name shows what is setup in Outlook which is their initials which is not correct.

Now we are currently in the process of a 2007 to 2013 migration.  I do not see this behavior on the Exchange 2007 side with POP/IMAP clients.  If I run the same test setup with a 2007 mailbox as the recipient, the sender's name resolves to their GAL display name and NOT the name configured in the Outlook Account settings.  It doesn't matter whether the sender is a 2007 or 2013 account.  As long as the recipient is on 2007 it works fine.

This is all tested using authenticated SMTP.  The only difference I can tell is that the 2007 servers resolve the name before delivering it to the inbox where the 2013 servers don't.

There aren't any GAL or Address Book related issues on the 2013 side.  Full exchange clients or OWA work correctly.

OWA and WAP with ADFS and delegation

$

I have 2 questions.

I am attempting to get WAP working with OWA in my test environment prior to moving to prod.

My WAP server is in the DMZ and not a member of a domain.  I have ADFS set up and verified to be working.

First question:

Pointing the OWA DNS record directly to Exchange is working with ADFS.  However, pointing to WAP I get WrongAudienceUriOrBadSigningCert error after entering credentials into the ADFS login page.  I see steps in the documented process about setting delegation to give the WAP server "PrincipalsAllowedToDelegateToAccount".  Since the WAP server is not in a domain how would I go about this?  Maybe this isn't the issue?

Second Question:

Is there a way to specify a default authentication domain in ADFS so users do not have to enter DOMAIN\USER in the OWA/ADFS login?

Hi

I have an exchange server 2013 SP1 installed consisting of 2 CAS and 2 mailbox servers, I am facing some issues with my autodiscover service.

When I assign a SSL certificate using SHA1 hashing algortihm everything works fine when i changed to a certificate with SHA2, autodiscover stops working and  i am getting the output below when i run test outlook web services from powershell:

i need to know if sha2 is enabled by default on the servers ( i checked the registry and it is showing that TLS 1.2 is enabled )

I tried to change the certificate on the MBX servers as well to be sha2 but unfortunately always i am getting the same errror above.

Please note when i run connectivity analyzer test it passes using the SHA1 or SHA2 when i go to configure an account by creating new profile in  mail it fails and informs that microsoft exchange is not available and make sure that outlook is online and i did more than test from windows 7 and windows 8 client outlook 2010 and outlook 2013.

Please I need some help here and thanks in advance

OWA 2013sp1 - Bing Map App link for Australian addresses is missing

$

Hi All,

      Not sure if this is really an issue or just my misunderstanding, but I'm noticing that the "Bing App" feature only works when an email message has a US-localized address such as the "Empire state building" but if the email body contains an Australian address such as the one below which is for the 'Eureka Towers" the "Bing Map App" link does not appear.

7 Riverside Quay, Southbank VIC 3006

Is this Feature not yet usable for other than US-localized Addresses ?

Environment configured as  below

2012r2 Domain/Forest Functional level
2013sp1 on Windows 2012 (Member server)

Regional settings = English/Australia
Location = Australia

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Hello EveryOne,

My computer connecting to Domain and We use Outlook e mail client to connect to Exchange server.

I just wonder that,In the *.ost folder location C:\user\abc\App\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\

I saw two *.ost with "ABC@123.com.OST and ABC1@123.com.OST"

I tried to deleted ABC1@123.OST and leave ABC@123.com.OST and when i open Microsoft Outlook, it still created new ABC1@123.com.OST

Why Outlook not point to abc@123.com.ost that leaved in there?

and why it's created new abc1@123.com.ost??

Please let me know about this.

Best regards,

OWA 2013 Apps in shared mailbox

$

Exchange 2013 SP1: Whenever I open my own mailbox in OWA (2013), I can see the 'Apps Bar' at the top of the email (such as Bing maps, Action Items etc) - but when I (or anyone else in the org) goes to 'Open another mailbox' that they have full access permissions to, this App bar disappears as soon as the other mailbox loads. This causes an issue for us as one of the apps is Symantec Enterprise Vault. The same thing appears to happen in the full Outlook 2013 client as well.

Is there any way to make the App Bar appear when opening another mailbox?

Thanks in advance.

Deletion of old email triggering false "Deleted without being read" notifications

$

I have recently moved into a hosted exchange situation for my business domain and established a new personal domain there as well.  (The business domain is a MAPI account; the personal domain is an IMAP account.) In doing this reorganization, I have copied a number of folders in which I store old email from the business account (MAPI) to the personal account (IMAP).  This process has resulted in a number of duplicate folders which I have attempted to delete.  The problem is this:  When I attempt to delete one of these duplicate folders, it automatically generates a number of email notifications -- from myself to myself -- reporting that a message has been deleted without being read.  This appears to happen with each of the messages in the folder that was subject to tracking at the time it was sent, but in factnone of those emails is unread.  I worry that these notices are also going out to those with whom those old messages were originally exchanged. Why is this happening, and how can I delete these folders without triggering these notices?

I am using Outlook in Office 2010 and the hosted exchange service is using Exchange 2013.

Many thanks in advance for any help with this problem.

Filter Default GAL for OWA in Exchange 2013 CU5

$

We are currently running Exchange 2010 sp3 and have a setup where we are providing email services to independent contractors who connect to us for email primarily using webmail.  We do not wish for the contractors to see each other in their address books.  We have long used the MSExchQueryBaseDN attribute in AD to specify an OU which has just a couple of corporate mail contacts in it and this is what all users see as the only entries in their address list when using outlook web app.

I have stood up our Exchange 2013 CU5 environment and have moved a few test users over to it.  Unfortunately the directory does not even appear when composing a new message and brining up the address book (only the user's contacts appear).  If I return the MSExchQueryBaseDN attribute to NULL value, the directory appears with ALL objects in it of course.

I initially thought maybe this type of segregation was no longer supported in Exchange 2013, but I found that in fact there is a new powershell command to set it in 2013 (Set-Mailbox -Identity Test User -QueryBaseDN "OU=Corp,DC=Domain,DC=Root").  Previously we had to do this manually in AD.

Should this type of filtering still work?  Any ideas why I'm seeing the behavior I am?

Note that I realize this likely could be handled by doing the following, of which I would only do as a last resort:

1) I could create an ABP for every contractor with an address list that contains only them (if I was talking about a handful, this would be OK but not really viable for hundreds).

2) I've seen info out there on filtering the MsExchSearchBase of the Default Global Address List.  I could set this to my OU which contains just the corporate contacts I wish users to see.  I don't know if this would cause any other impact though to my webmail-only users.  I also have a small subset which connect using RPC over HTTPS and we have Address Book Policies setup for each of those offices so that they only see their own office in their Global Address List so I don't think these users would be impacted either, but wanted to throw it out there.

Outlook 2010 / 2013 Send on Behalf of does not cache Resolved email address in the From Dropdown

$

This is insane Microsoft. Makes me wonder if you use your own product

Office 2013 / Exchange 2010

- Proper mail box permission
- Proper Send On Behalf of Permission

1. Open A Message > Select From > Choose Other Address > Choose From Again > Pick the Address (Which Resolves from GAL) Finish the Message and Send - No Problem

2. Start Another Message > Click the From drop down and the email is cached in unresolved SMTP format
!!!!!

"You do not have the permission to send the message on behalf of the specified user"

A Better message would be "Sorry Microsoft doesn't understand how to read it's own address book, properly cache an exchange email address and thinks 4 click is better than 1"

Sorry for the rant but if any one has a solution to this it would be much appreciated.

Notes:
- CTRL-K or Check Names Doesn't Resolve the From field
- You can send repeated On Behalf of as long as you don't the From Drop-down.
- Changing Address book order doesn't work
- Using Contacts as the Primary Address book doesn't work
- No Shortcut Quick Key to open "Open Send From Other-Email Address Programmatically" form
- Cant Use Quick Steps because From Field is not included

For those of you who hate rants without a solution, Here it is beyond ridiculous!

1. Make the Developer Tab Visible
2. Add the following VBA Code to ThisOutlookSession
Sub CreateNewMessage()
Dim objMsg As MailItem
Dim obj
Set objMsg = Application.CreateItem(olMailItem)

 With objMsg

  '.SentOnBehalfOfName = "email@domain.com" DOESNT WORK BECAUSE EXCHANGE DOESNT RESOLVE
  .SentOnBehalfOfName = "USE THE DISPLAY NAME"
  .To = ""
  .CC = ""
  .BCC = ""
  .Subject = ""
  .Categories = "Test"
  .VotingOptions = "Yes;No;Maybe;"
  .BodyFormat = olFormatHTML
  .Importance = olImportanceNormal
  .Sensitivity = olNormal

' Calculate a date using DateAdd or enter an explicit date
'  .ExpiryTime = DateAdd("m", 6, Now) '6 months from now
'  .DeferredDeliveryTime = #8/1/2012 6:00:00 PM#

  .Display
End With

Set objMsg = Nothing
End Sub

3. Customize the Ribbon
- Create A New Group
- Position New Group As Desired
- Choose Commands From (Select Macros)
- Drag Macros to Group
- Change Display Name and Choose Icon (Under Rename)

4. Hide The Developer Tab

Exchange 2013 - OWA "Something Went Wrong", Out of office in Outlook "Server unavailable"

$

Hi,

We have a new deployment of Exchange 2013 CU2 V2 running on a Windows 2012 server.  Everything has been running without issues and then without any real clue to why, we are now getting an issue where OWA says "Something Went Wrong" after processing your login, (it appears to process the login as if I type in incorrect details it tells me the password/username is wrong).

At the same time we have also lost the ability to run the Out Of Office in Outlook which comes back saying the server is not available and we can't seem to share calendars correctly either.  (Can set Out Of Office via the Management Shell without issues).

When running a Get-Serverhealth on the OWA.Protocol it tells me the OWASelfTestMonitor is unhealthy.

I've tried re-creating the OWA, EWS Virtual Directorys and also the autodiscover but with no effect.  I've also restarted the server.

Outlook 2013 and mobile phones are working fine on the server and the Exchange Admin Centre is also working without issues.

I am getting tempted to apply CU2 again to see if this sorts it but don't really like doing this on a server with 50 live users on it...

In the eventlog I can see lots of the 2 errors listed below which seems to line up.  (System Log and Application Log seem to be clear of other errors or warnings.)

Hi guys

In my Exchange 2013 SP1 environment I have only one problem :

I CAN NOT connect client outside exchange domain with outlook when ever I tried it gives  me : "Microsoft Exchange in unavailable"

I've configure outlook any where and a private CA for certificate also I add SRV record for autodiscover at my DNS Server

I can only connect them with mailbox GUID

Pleas help me which steps I should go to do this job

I need to connect outlook outside the exchange domain with outlook any where without using GUID :(
