Unable to access OWA or ECP. - "Something went wrong" or "500 unexpected error"

$

Our environment consist of 3 client access servers with 8 mailbox servers.  I recently installed windows updates on all of the servers.  Now when a user tries to access OWA it fails and says "Something went wrong" when I try to access ECP I receive "500 unexpected error"

I have tried building a new CAS and mailbox servers with the default settings but it still fails.  I did not install the latest Windows updates on the new servers.  I tried creating new databases with new users and it also fails.

There are also these ASP.NET 4.0.30319.0 warnings showing in the application log:

Outlook 2013 Won't Sync Consistently with Exchange 365 Server

$

Hello,

I have a Win 7 Pro laptop running Office 365 Pro Plus, and Outlook 2013 is part of that package.  For some reason, Outlook isn't syncing to the Exchange 365 server.  Even though it says "Connected" at the bottom, and that "All Folders Are Up to Date", I'm still not getting a full sync.  Example: I can delete a message from my inbox on my Win 7 computer, yet the message doesn't delete from the Outlook Web App, or my iPhone or iPad.  Or, I can delete a message from my iPad or iPhone, and it will delete on Outlook Web App but not on my laptop running Outlook.  In other words, my Win 7 PC running Outlook is the odd man out.  My iOS devices and the Outlook Web App always seem to be in sync.

I did notice that at the bottom of the message list in my inbox in Outlook, there's a link telling me "there are more messages on the server".  I click that link, and it takes a few seconds for my inbox messages to update.  Once they do, I see messages I've already deleted before.  This tends to improve the sync function as well, but only temporarily.

I did try to repair my profile by going to File --> Account Settings and then choosing Repair.  That didn't really seem to change anything.

I also tried running a full Office 365 repair in Add/Remove Programs, but that didn't fix it either.

I have downloaded and installed all of the latest updates from Microsoft Update.  Not really sure where else to look.

Search folders in shared mailboxes

Sorry to ask here, but no-one knows on the exchange online 365 forum.

How to make a search folder for a shared mailbox? Don't mind if I make in outlook client or exchange online.

I don't mind if its visible in OWA (although that would be nice) as long as its visible in outlook.

I was wondering about making the mailbox the default mailbox for a user, opening the account as exchange account in outlook and seeing if I could make a search folder that way. Would that work?

"Import contacts" not available?

Hi,

we got a new Exchange 2013-setup running and customers are asking were to find the import contacts function in OWA. We did nothing related to this on the servers, no change in config, nothing. There's an old thread on the forums that tells this function is available for Office365 only, the online help of OWA 2013 doesn't mention this in any way.

See http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/de2424a4-6c34-4bab-88aa-5a36010941c0/how-to-make-import-contacts-available

Could anybody please help me?

Kind regards,
 Norbert

With "Download Headers" option checked, opening plain text emails results in cropped body text

$

When I open raw plain text emails (i.e. not formatted as HTML) I only see thefirst 255 characters of the email body; all of the remainder is chopped off, and never appears no matter how many times I re-open the email.

I have narrowed this down to my somewhat unusual download preferences in Outlook. They are configured as follows:
  Send/Receive -> Download Preferences -> Download Headers (checked).

I know the email text is there in full, because when I point my web browser at OWA, I can see the full body.
If at first I choose Mark to Download and then Process Marked Headers, I can then open the plain text email and see the body in full.

When I open HTML emails I have no problems, regardless of whether the email download was forced or not.

This issue existed on my old Office 2010 installation for XP too. It persists now I have upgraded to Office 2013 on Win 7.

Is this a known issue? It seems like Outlook just forgets to download the full text for plain text emails when opening them. It's repeatable every time, so it doesn't seem like a race condition.

We use a 3rd party provider (Cobweb) for our email service and I believe they are using Exchange 2013.

We use ESET Smart Security Suite and I have tried disabling the scanner for that but see no change in the outcome. I would appreciate if anyone without ESET could try to reproduce these steps for themselves and confirm.

Note: I already asked this question at the Office Community site and it was suggested I post here.

Thanks,
Marcel

Outlook 2013 new mail indicator lingers

The issue is the new mail indicator (Inbox- 1) will go away when items are marked as read or deleted but will return after a couple of second to the original folder. If you close outlook and reopen the indicator will be gone for good.

The environment is Exchange 2010 SP3, Outlook 2013 client, with cached mode enabled to speed up the process.

Outlook 2013 Deliver Messages to primary inbox

$

Hello,

I recently upgraded my customers server from SBS 2003 with Exchange 2003 to Server 2012 Standard with Exchange 2013. The office manager has full access to one of the users mailboxes and has in the past had added the mailbox and the changed where the mail was delivered. (ie. to her inbox). This way she didnt have to look in 2 different places. Well in Outlook 2013 there is no way to change where the mail is delivered to? This is a huge inconvenience to the office manager as she has missed several emails now because she has to look in 2 different places. Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks,

John

Need to Click Update Folder for All Messages to Appear

$

Hello-

We are running a single Exchange 2013 SP1 server and clients are running Outlook 2013 SP1.  What we are finding is that since we enabled MAPI over HTTP random messages are not appearing in some user mailboxes, but they are showing on their ActiveSync devices.  Closing and opening Outlook does not trigger the messages to appear in Outlook, but clicking the Update Folder button on the Send/Receive tab does.  Clicking the Update Folder button seems to be the only way for these messages to appear as clicking Send/Receive All does nothing either.

This problem was introduced immediately after updating Exchange to SP1.  Are there any known issues that would cause this type of behavior where messages are missing in Outlook until the Update Folder button is clicked?  Outlook shows as connected the entire time and other messages will come in and be sent just fine.

Thanks.

Outlook Disconnects Frequently onTerminal Server

Good Day!

We have been having an issue for the last 3 months where Outlook Disconnects from Exchange often and is affecting users' work.  I have not been able to resolve this issue.  You will see in the image below, there are 2 back to back in the times and one is the disconnect and one is the reconnect.

A little background of our setup

- Clustered Hyper-V Servers located at a Datacenter with plenty of RAM and Network Connectivity

- Roughly 10 Users connect to Terminal Server 2008 R2 which is a Virtual Machine on the cluster

- Exchange is a Virtual Machine on the cluster

- Exchange CAS is another Virtual Machine on the cluster

- Outlook 2013 STD Volume License is on the TS

Folder not found error on sharing contacts

We are in an Exchange environment, same domain, same site.

I tried to share a Contacts folder from a user on Outlook 2010 to a user on Outlook 2013 using the instructions at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/share-a-contacts-folder-with-others-HA010355056.aspx.

Everything seemed to go OK. Recipient got the sharing email, but when she clicked on“Open this contacts folder” she got the error message "The folder you selected is not available".

We tested sharing using 2 people using Outlook 2013 and it worked perfectly. Suggestions?

Mike

Outlook Calendar functionality

I'm trying to find out if there is current functionality for the following in Outlook:

•Embedding form / questionnaire when setting up a meeting (i.e. to order food or supplies for the meeting, etc.).  Auto populate email group(s) for sending form upon completion?
•Designating the equipment available in the conference room (i.e. smart board, liteshow, etc.)?
•Alert notification if the number of attendees exceeds the conference room capacity (in the event attendees forwards the invite to others, etc.)?
•Can email groups be restricted so only certain individuals can see and use them?
•Is there a way to report usage of conference rooms and number of attendees?

Shared mailboxes not showing up auto?

Hi all,

I'm having some issues sharing mailboxes to users so it will auto map in users Outlook software. All users have full permission however it will only show up auto for some users while I need to manually add it to others using these steps in Outlook.

(1). Go to File> Account Settings;
(2). Double click the email address;
(3). In the pop-up window, click More Settings;
(4). Choose advanced and click Add;
(5). In the pop-up window, input the email address of the shared mailbox and clickOK;

Any idea why it works for some and require manual work on others?

Thank you for your time.
Best regards,
Saman

OWA cached contacts in New email

$

we have had some contacts in our internal directory which have been removed. however when composing new emails in outlook, i can still see them as suggestions, which is okay since they are cached.

however, when i am in owa, i can still see them. when i start to type the name of the person i can see their "contacts" email address come up, which have been deleted previously. once i click on search contacts and directory, i see the correct email address come up.

question is where are the contacts cached in owa? and how can i get rid of them? if they are on the server, maybe i can remove them for all users, which i doubt would be the case.

using exchange 2013
offline mode in owa is disabled.
