Problems connecting to Microsoft Exchange. Windows Security.

Hi All

We have a problem with connections to exchange. Every time we have a new user we are getting prompted for a username and password when opening outlook for the first time. the Windows Security box pops up after auto discovery picks up email address etc when configuring email sever settings  you get the pop up asking for credentials under the username field it is populated with the primary email address "my.name@domain.com" if you enter the password it fails if you enter the DOMAIN\myname and the password it works fine. Its incredibly annoying and we are trying to create a good experience for our new users.

The Envioronment is as follows:

Domain 2008r2

Exchange 2013

Windows 7 64bit

Outlook 2010

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Kenny.

The administrator has made changes that requires Outlook to be restarted.

We are running on premise Exchange 2013 (Upgraded from Exchange 2010).  Our Outlook anywhere clients (Me being one of them) are constantly getting this pop up, some more then others.

"The administrator has made changes that requires Outlook to be restarted."

I have looked around and there are a lot of references to corrupt OST files and recently mailbox moves.  My mailbox has been moved for several months now, and I am not using cached mode, however I do have a 16MB OST file on this particular computer (I get this message on the 3 computers I use regularly, all of them do not have cache mode)

We only seem to get this message on Outlook 2013, I have downgraded a computer to 2010 and I do not get the message.  I believe that we started getting this message shortly after we removed the Exchange 2010 server from our organization, however I cannot be certain

any thoughts??  I get the message at least every 30-60 minutes :)

http 400 - bad request

The setup is as follows

Windows Server 2012 R2 running Exchange 2013 CU5 - CAS Role
Windows Server 2012 R2 Running Exchange 2013 CU5 - Mailbox Role
Published via Web Application Proxy, using ADFS on Server 2012 R2

The problem

Browse to https://webmail.contoso.com/owa - log into OWA as myself this works fine - try and open another users mailbox that i have full access to, i get HTTP 400 bad request

If i browse to https://servername and perform the same procedure it works.   This leave me to the conclusion that the Web Application Proxy server / ADFS server is at fault

this KB article is not relevant in this instance, as I can resolve the names correctly;http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2770796/en-au

Any suggestions

Thank you.

POP works via localhost but not from other networked machines

Hello All

I have three servers in an Exchange 2013 DAG.  Lets call them EX2013-MB1, MB2 and MB3.

I have configured POP Across the board.  All of a sudden the other day POP stopped working on MB1.  After some troubleshooting, if I launch a telnet session to port 110 from MB1, it connects and works fine.  Any other machine, nothing, connection immediately drops.

I have the firewall disabled, so it's not the firewall blocking the connection by any means.

Any ideas?  Below are my Get-PopSettings, and Test-PopConnectivity

Two *.OST in outlook folder

Hello EveryOne,

My computer connecting to Domain and We use Outlook e mail client to connect to Exchange server.

I just wonder that,In the *.ost folder location C:\user\abc\App\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\

I saw two *.ost with "ABC@123.com.OST and ABC1@123.com.OST"

I tried to deleted ABC1@123.OST and leave ABC@123.com.OST and when i open Microsoft Outlook, it still created new ABC1@123.com.OST

Why Outlook not point to abc@123.com.ost that leaved in there?

and why it's created new abc1@123.com.ost??

Please let me know about this.

Best regards,

OWA and WAP with ADFS and delegation

I have 2 questions.

I am attempting to get WAP working with OWA in my test environment prior to moving to prod.

My WAP server is in the DMZ and not a member of a domain.  I have ADFS set up and verified to be working.

First question:

Pointing the OWA DNS record directly to Exchange is working with ADFS.  However, pointing to WAP I get WrongAudienceUriOrBadSigningCert error after entering credentials into the ADFS login page.  I see steps in the documented process about setting delegation to give the WAP server "PrincipalsAllowedToDelegateToAccount".  Since the WAP server is not in a domain how would I go about this?  Maybe this isn't the issue?

Second Question:

Is there a way to specify a default authentication domain in ADFS so users do not have to enter DOMAIN\USER in the OWA/ADFS login?

Autodiscover / Edge Server

Hi, I wonder if someone could possibly point me in the right direction.

We have recently rebuilt our network with Exchange 2013 running CAS and MBX on Svr2012 on an internal LAN gb.domain.com. We have also put a combined Web and Edge server in a DMZ with everything working except Autodiscover hosting domain.com.

Can someone please tell me whether Autodiscover is supposed to be resolved on the Edge server in the DMZ or should it be re-directed into the LAN to resolve on the CAS.

I'm obviously not an expert but manage to get most things to work given time.  This Autodiscover is driving me nuts!

Any help would be truly appreciated.

One of my users is reporting the above error, often when she attempts to access the global address list (GAL).  If she tries again she can access the GAL and continue working.   She is, however, becoming frustrated with the frequency she is seeing the error pop up.

Client is running Windows 7 and Outlook 2010.

Server is Exchange 2010 SP3 running on Windows 2008 R2.

I am grateful for any answers.  Thank you!!

How to open a local client archive .ost file on a new computer

$

Hello,

We use Exchange 2010 Standard and Outlook 2013. I got a new computer and made a copy of my email archive that was being stored on my Windows 8 computer under c:\users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook .  Now I want to open the archive to look for an old message.  Outlook 2013 won't open the file.

Error, "The file you chose is not an Outlook Data File. You must select a new file of this type."

Outlook 2013; File Menu; Open & Export; Open Outlook Data File - that will open the file browse window with the file type of Outlook Data Files listed.  To show the archive, I had to change it to All Files.  The file extension is hidden, but the details of it show the Type is "Outlook Data File".  If I try to open it, I get the error above.  Looking at the properties of the file, it is an .OST Outlook Data File.

I know that Outlook wants to open a .PST file, but I need to open an .OST file.  The Exchange Server did not change.  The network user did not change.  The only thing that changed was the old computer was removed from Active Directory and the New Computer was added - and the network user properties was updated to the new computer.

How do I get access to my archive?

Thank you!

Emory

Outlook Anywhere - External Connecivity Help

Hey all,

I'm having trouble connecting external clients with my Exchange 2013 Server. I've set the external name on the server. No problem with internal clients whatsoever.

When configuring Outlook the connection times out - saying the exchange server is unavailable.

I also ran the Remote Connectivity tool from Microsoft.  It fails at this point.

 Attempting to ping RPC proxy
  RPC Proxy can't be pinged.

 Additional Details

An unexpected network-level exception was encountered. Exception details:

My experience with Exchange 2013 is limited - I imagine this is related to an external setting as my internal clients have no problem.

Exchange2007/Exchange 2013 migration - AutoComplete question

$

Hello, all.

We're in the process of migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  Additionally, we are upgrading our client from Outlook 2007 to 2013.  A few weeks ago, we upgraded/deployed Outlook 2013 while keeping our mailboxes on Exchange 2007.  The client worked pretty well and haven't experienced any significant problems.

Earlier this week, we migrated our team's mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to 2013.  One problem we've run into is AutoComplete and MailTips.  The user inputs an address, the address populates/resolves successfully.  As soon as he tabs out of the To field he gets the below MailTip.  "Won't be able..."  Even with the MailTip, the message sends successfully.

Using the "Empty AutoComplete list," this appears to have cleared up the MailTip issue.  I understand emptying the AutoComplete list is the same thing deleting the .nk2 aka the nickname file.

Here's what we know:

The problem is not experienced with all addresses.

Problem occurred with multiple users that were migrated to 2013.

The problem does not occur in OWA.  So, it appears to strictly be an Outlook-related problem.

Can someone please provide some insight on whether the problem is just a false-positive in MailTips and can be adjusted or is it the AutoComplete feature?  Is the list possibly getting corrupted?

We'd prefer to not have to clear out the AutoComplete list for ~ 5,000 users.

Mailbox Quota - Outlook Client and Exchange Quota

$

I am trying to clear us some apparent discrepancies of what I am seeing in Outlook 2013 clients connecting to an Exchange 2013 mail server.

On the Outlook 2013 client - from File - Mailbox cleanup - there is a bar graph on the client in question that shows: 155 MB free of 20 GB

First off - I thought the default file size limit of PST or OST file size for Outlook 2013 was 50 GB - so not sure why it seems to be indicating a 20 GB limit?

Is the limit inherited from the Exchange server? If I go to this mailbox in EAC and look at mailbox usage - right now the quota is specified as unlimited (whether unlimited is a good idea or not is another matter). The radio box is selected for Customize the quota settings for this mailbox. Issue a warning at (GB) is specified as - unlimited.

In EAC for this mailbox in question - in mailbox usage - it shows 8.39 GB used.

If I go back to Outlook and look at the account settings - Data Files - and then look at the OST (at the file location on the local machine) - it shows it as 28 GB.

So - I have several things that don't seem to add up:

1) Why does the Mailbox Cleanup indicator in Outlook show 155 MB free of 20 GB? And - do I care?

2) Where is the 20 GB limit coming from if the limit for Outlook 2013 is 50 GB and the quota on the mailbox in OWA is unlimited?

3) If there in fact is a limit of 20 GB - why is the OST 28 GB?

4) Does it make sense that the OST is 28 GB but the EAC shows this mailbox is using 8.39 GB?

outlook 2010 (Exchange 2010) can not open older digitally signed emails from one client

Exchange 2010 (on SBS 2011),  PC is Windows 7 Pro (64x), Outlook 20010

The user has older emails from a single client that he can not open older emails.  EmailsWILL open dating back to 1/2014, but WILL NOT starting in 9/2013 and older.

At first I thought it was when we moved to a new server with Exchange (previous server did not have Exchange) in 11/2012, but that is not the case.  I searched for other signed emails, there are none.

How can we get these emails opened??
