Mapi over HTTP issue

$

Hi all!

Hope somebody can help me out. In my test lab, where I`m experimenting with Exchange 2013 SP1 and Outlook 2013 SP1 I came across very annoying thing.

Let me explain a little bit more about config that worked.

Outlook 2013 connected to Exchange 2013 via RPC over HTTPS is working great actually really great. I have created my own certs and imported ROOT CA cert to all of my machines and things are working peachy. As part of my plans for 2014 I have to test and deploy MAPI over HTTP sometime at the end of 2014 in our company (and migrate fromEX2007 but this is different story).

OK so I`ve enabled MAPI over HTTP on my test server and configured 5 virtual machines with different accounts to test things out. Started Outlooks, accepted "Your administrator has made change ....." prompts and here we go, I`m connected MAPI/HTTP and all works really great.

Except for one thing. When it does connect, things are super fast and it works as it should. But sometimes it does not connect right away and it is sluggish in performance. Also Outlook is missing "Quick steps" menu, see attached image:

I restarted all servers, clients, clean Outlook install nothing helps.

When RPC/HTTPS I could quit and start Outlook 10 times and it worked 10/10 without problems.
When MAPI/HTTP I restart outlook and it works 6/10, so 4 times I get messed up Outlook and very poor performance.

Any idea where to start troubleshooting? Maybe Outlook has a bug or 2 with this mode?
Server is correctly sized and backed up by enough of memory and CPU, mailboxes have 100-3500 items in them.
Again, RPC/HTTPS works every time without any problem.
MAPI/HTTP works lets say 6 times without any prolem at all and really works great but 4 times out of 10 it makes me want to throw it away :)

If someone knows best way to troubleshoot this one, please let me know.

Regards,

G

Office 2010 Outlook Search and Indexing not working

$

Hello,

I'm hoping someone may be of assistance as this has been plaguing my outlook for some time now.

Problem:

When attempting to search for any emails via the search bar, it appears as if it is attempting to search, but I receive no results.

Windows 7 x64 Service Pack 1

Office 2010 Service Pack 2

Connected to Office 365 Exchange

  • In services Windows Search service is not running, though Automatic (Delayed Start is selected), I attempted starting the service but it returned with an error saying it started and then stopped.
  • In Outlook options > Search > Indexing Options > the service is shown as "Indexing is not Running" and the list of indexed folders is empty. Everything else is grayed out except "Advance Tab" which only has one button available called "Rebuild", everything else is grayed out.

I am aware this question was asked a few years back but the linked articles referenced are no longer working.

Though I seem to be having a similar problem and any assistance and new suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Connection to the backend server failed. Error: (0x80072ef1). OWA with Claim through WAP and ADFS

We are seeing this error when connecting to OWA (Exchange 2013 SP1 with Claims Based Auth enabled) through Windows Server 2012 WAP configured for ADFS (v3.) Now I have seen this discussion on WAP (Here) articles and they seem to lay the blame the OWA server, which is why I am posting here.

The user sees this error: "This method or property is not supported after HttpRequest.Form, Files, InputStream, or BinaryRead has been invoked." which goes away after the browser is refreshed. This is an intermittent issue.

WAP reports this error:

Connection to the backend server failed. Error: (0x80072ef1).

I am currently running 2 HP Servers, SAN Storage. I have Exchange 2013 installed and MS Outlook 2013 randomly appears with the message

"The Microsoft exchange administrator has made a change that requires you to quit and restart outlook" It is happening very frequently and is appearing every few seconds on a lot of users.

Cannot Delete Email from OWA 2010 in Coexistence Scenario

Some users are unable to delete emails in their 2010 mailbox using OWA when proxied through Exchange 2013. The error is:

An unexpected error occurred and your request could not be handled. Access is Denied. Check credentials and try again.

This error only occurs for some users and only when proxied by Exchange 2013. If the user logs on directly to OWA on an individual 2010 CAS server in the load balanced array, they have no difficulty in deleting emails. Oddly enough, when being proxied, the user can double click to open an email and then delete it successfully.

Have been all over the web and forums and cannot find any hint of a solution.

"None category" does not show incoming unread message

A customer uses categories in Outlook 2010.  New unread emails, that do not fall under any of the already setup categories, are not automatically displayed under the "none" category which is at the top of the Inbox view.  This drives him crazy as he thinks that the email is missing.  Once he collapses the category and then expands it again, he sees the new email under the "none" category.  Is there a setting on Outlook 2010 to make it happen automatically without having to "refresh" it? Thanks.

Outlook only works when I restart

HI all

Any help welcome.

I set up an exchange account on my Microsoft Outlook 2013.  I have Windows 8.

However, it will only send emails if I close down and restart.  Otherwise emails stay in my outbox.

The same is true for incoming messages.  Clicking send and receive simply freezes the machine and never completes the task.  Shutting on and off is the only thing that works.

I have tried this in safe mode and amended send/receive settings yet nothing seems to work.

Thanks in advance

Force Outlook to download Cached Mode data at full line speed

I have a number of users on Office 365 with large mailboxes (10GB+) and whenever I need to recreate the cache (cache or profile corruption, OS reinstallation), Outlook rebuilds the offline cache but at speeds consistently around 1Mbps - internet connection is 4Mbps. Is this throttling on the Office 365 server side, or is this client side? Can anything be done to force a faster initial population of the cache to reduce the time to get up and running?

Thanks

Patrick

Outlook Hangs All The Time, Disbabled All Plugins, Works In Safe Mode

I am kind of at my wits end here.

A user has a very large mailbox, over 2 gigs.We have moved from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2013 (hosted service, so not the same server.) But first I deleted the user's profile on the Windows 7 machine and recreated thinking his profile may be corrupt, but only after removing the Exchange account from the box, repairing, uninstalling, upgrading from Outlook 2010 to Outlook 2013 and still  the computer get hung up using Outlook. I have gone in an disabled all plugins (except Exchange) and tried, no luck. The only thing that seems to work is running Outlook in safe mode. What else could be causing this to happen?

Thanks

Exchange 2013 -> 2010 OWA Proxy Issue

$

I just recently set up my 2013/2010 coexistence network with 1 EX2010 server running all roles and 1 EX2013 running both roles. There is a TMG firewall at the external front of the network which shouldn't really come into play here.

When I first set up the 2013 CAS, it pulled in all the EX2010 info. When I would log in to localhost/owa on the 2013 CAS as a 2010 user, I would get proxied no problem. I was in the process of pointing all DNS records and firewall ports to the new 2013CAS when I noticed that now when I login to the 2013CAS, even just locally, using a 2010 mailbox, it starts to proxy and then gets stuck "Still Working On It". Every time I try and log in with a 2010 user it logs in fine and then gets stuck and the circle keeps spinning. It seems to make it to the 2010 OWA because if I stop the page, the favicon for the old 2010 OWA is shown at in the address bar.

I am able to login to the EX2013 box locally with a 2013 test user and it pulls up the 2013 OWA. I can also log in to the 2010 OWA on the EX2010 server no problem. I have checked both OWA pages and they are set to FBA.

I have tried changing all the authentication methods, changing the external URLs on the 2010 box from the same as 2013, to null, to legacy and nothing worked. I Have recreated the 2013 virtual directory but haven't recreated the 2010 virtual directory because I wanted to make that a last resort option just in case. I have also tried looking into the IIS logs but am not too sure how to read through them.

Hopefully someone has some things that I can try or some logs that I can check to see if I can find where the issue is. If you need any more information or want me to provide some logs I would be more than happy to provide.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Autodiscoverserviceinternaluri change

Hello,

I just installed two exchange 2013 CAS servers in my existing Exchange 2010 organization, and am having question regarding Autodiscoverserviceinternaluri chang. Please help

Current setting on Exchange 2010

AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri       : https://cas1.domain.local/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml

I will have Exchange 2010 and 2013 in co-existence for a while so to gradually transit to Exchange 2013. According to Exchange server deployment assistant, I need to change autodiscoverserviceinternaluri on Exchange 2010 CAS server to  autodiscover.company.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml, which I have configured on Exchange 2013 CAS server.

What is the proper steps to make the change so there will be little user interruption? Thanks

Jim

Outlook Web Access: "Sign In to IM" does NOT appear in IE11

I use OWA to access my work email from my personal laptop. However, I cannot access instant messaging from IE11.

On my personal laptop:

  • "Sign In to IM" does NOT appear in IE11.
  • It DOES appear in Firefox.

On my work laptop:

  • It DOES appear in IE9 (which is the company standard).

OWA Full Version - Supported Browsers?

$

Our organization is facing an issue with users not being able to delete or move emails in the OWA. After much testing and research, we determined that users were able to use the full version of OWA without any issues using IE. However, in order to be able to move or delete emails in all other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) users are limited to using the light version of OWA. I have read that MS supports all of the aforementioned browsers with the full version of OWA. However, the full version only works with IE for our organization. Has anyone else experienced this issue and what, if anything, have you been able to do to resolve the issue other than have users to select the light version of OWA when using any browser other than IE?

Unable to open OWA cross site between 2013 and 2010 Exchange Server

$

Hello,
First of all allow me to describe the scenario as this always helps and is often omitted from many questions.

SITEA – 1 x 2010 Exchange Server (All roles except UM and Edge), Domain controllers etc available
SITEB- 1 x Newly installed 2013 Exchange Server (Mailbox and CAS roles), GC Domain controllers etc. avaliable

Sites and Services are correctly configured between the sites and we have a high speed WAN connection between the data centres all ports and communication between servers at both sites are open as the connection is secure.

After installing Exchange 2013 in SITEB, whenever I try to login to either the ECP or OWA of the 2013 with a user whose mailbox is in SITEA we immediately receive the sad smiley face with the something went wrong message. Clicking more details displays the following message:
X-FEServer: <OUR_EX_2013_SERVER>

I was expecting Exchange to proxy the request to the 2010 server and get the 2010 OWA experience. If I create a new mailbox on the 2013 then it is of course fine.

Is someone able to suggest any troubleshooting steps? I have of course fully followed the Exchange 2013 deployment assistant from Microsoft and ensured all pre-requisites were carried out.

The Exchange 2013 server is SP1 and is running on Windows 2012 R2

OWA Users cannot access .snp attachments

One of my user complains none of the user can access or download .SNP (MS Access Snapshot File) attachments from OWA 2013. When a user clicks on the attachment they get the warning message "Access to this Attachment is blocked. Recipients may not be able to view the attachment, either."

But the same file is easily accessible from Outlook.

I have tried Set-OwaMailboxPolicy -Identity OwaMailboxPolicy-Default -AllowedFileTypes ".snp" and restarted the IIS Service but no luck!

Do I need to have Office Web App Server to be able to download these .SNP files? Is there any way around to allow such files in OWA out of the box?

Publish Outlook Anywhere with Kerberos constrained delegation, authenticate with client certificate

Hi

I´m currently testing publishing of Outlook Anywhere with TMG/UAG, in my testenvironment I have Exchange 2010 in my environment at the moment.

My test accounts logon to our domain with smart card, I have no issues connecting with outlook to Exchange from internal network. When I try to logon from external network my clients shows disconnected after a few seconds and I can´t connect to Exchange. Is it possible to get SSO to outlook anywhere when connecting from Internet and using smart card?

I have configured TMG with Kerberos Constrained Delegation.

Our SPN is set to http/server.domain.com and our Exchange is trusted for delegation on computer object. In TMG I have tested with spn http/* and http/server.domain.com.

On our listener I have tested with authentication SSL client certificate and with HTTP Auth (Integrated).

When I configured the listener to use Basic auth I received logon prompt.

I have read several blogs and technet articles but I can´t find anything if outlook anywhere is going to work with SSO when using smart cards.

I am using Exchange 2013 on Windows 2010 and all my clients are Outlook 2010.

We cannot attach more than 10MB's of attachments. I get the two below errors in Outlook:

I have increased both the send and received connectors in ECP to 100MB and restarted the transport service. No luck. All users are effected by this.

Any ideas?
