Outlook task with corrupted attached messages

$

Dear community,

Currently I am experencing a problem with Outlook tasks that included email attachments messages.

When open the tasks first of all i receive the error "could not open one or more atachments." and when you try to open up the attachment itself

i get the error message "one or more parameters are incorrect".

looking with mfcmapi at the attachment and his properties I noticed the strange settings or the error mentioned.

see picture

Selecting the attachment and looking at his values, the pr_attach_method propertyname dispaly a value of 0, while the object itself says method "attach_embedded_msg"; which corresponds with a value of 5.

Modifying the propertyname value seems impossible.

how can i rectify this error without performing a restore ofcourse. ;-)

and what is the root cause of this?

Cannot attach files to desktop Outlook client (Office 365 and Outlook 2013)

I've posted this issue in the Office 365 and Outlook 2013 communities and was directed to post this issue in this forum.

I have a user that cannot attach files when using their Outlook desktop client (Office 365 and Outlook 2013). When they try to drag and drop, or when they use the "attach file" button they get the following message - "You don't have the appropriate permission to perform this operation". This only happens when they use Windows Explorer. This issues still happens when Outlook is ran in Safe Mode. I tested the user's Outlook account from another computer and was able to successfully attach files, so the issue seems to be related to the user's computer. I was also successfully able to attach files by using the user's OWA. Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

Here are the steps I've already tried:

- Checked all permissions and they are correct

- Ran Windows update

- Ran Outlook at Admin

- Ran PST repair tool

- Created new profile

Thanks!

Outlook 2010 Certificate does not match

I have a problem with a new installation of Exchange 2013 on a Windows 2012 Server.  Most of the clients are Outlook 2010.

All the internal users are getting the error message:

"There is a problem with the proxy server's certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site exchange2013.myinternaldomain.local

This is shortly followed by another box "the name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site"

Of course the issue is my purchased SSL certificate is MAIL.REALDOMAIN.ORG  while the server's name is exchange2013.myinternaldomain.local

With Exchange 2010 servers I have deployed I have had success following KB article 940726 but this time it didn't fix it with Exchange 2013.

There must be a solution!

I found this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2783881   the first suggestion from MS were impractical and the registry edit didn't work either (plus the thought of going to all my clients to do a registry fix doesn't make me happy!)

I tried creating a local DNS zone for my external domain name and pointing to the internal IP but that didn't fix it.

In the ECP under the Outlook Anywhere section --  "*Specify the internal host name such as contoso.com that users will use to connect to your organization:"  I changed the internal host name to the external .org address but this caused Outlook clients internally not to work.

I used the -AutodiscoverServiceInternalUrl command to point it to the .org address on the certificate but didn't work either.

I have a service record in both external and internal DNS pointing to the mail.realdomain.org address.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Exchange 2013 Issue: Outlook 2010 auto populating the From Tab when forwarding email

Exchange 2013 Issue: Outlook 2010 auto populating the From Tab when forwarding email

I am running Exchange 2013 and I have an end user who connects to it via Outlook 2010. All was going well till he went to forward an email and he noticed that the From button appeared and auto populated the sender's email address.

I have clicked the Empty Auto Complete List in Outlook's Send messages... still displayed the From tab when forwarding.

I recreated the profile in outlook... same thing.

I created the profile with outlook 2013... same thing.

There is only one user profile setup in Outlook.

(I know the from tab usually appears when you have multiple profiles setup in Outlook and/or when you configure the "From" tab.)

I opened the end user's email in Exch 2013's OWA... what was different here was when I clicked on the email and it opened, it did NOT have the Reply or Forward option... and it displayed as a "Draft" email.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Outlook Web App GAL Problem

With Outlook Web App the Global Address List will not display correctly all the time. Many times I will need to go in and out of the list to get it to display correctly. The search functions always work correctly and return valid user names and passwords. This problem only happens when displaying the full global address list in the Web App. I’m running Exchange Server 2013 SP1 with Address Book Policy Routing Enabled. I have tried different browsers and computers all display the same issue, any ideas??

Missing RCP Virtual Directory

Hey guys, I have two Exchange 2013 servers setup running both CAS and Mailbox roles.  Two servers are configured in a DAG.

  • RPC-over-HTTP-proxy is installed.

PS C:\Windows\system32> Install-WindowsFeature RPC-over-HTTP-proxy -Verbose
VERBOSE: Installation started...

Success Restart Needed Exit Code      Feature Result
------- -------------- ---------      --------------
True    No             NoChangeNeeded {}
VERBOSE: Installation succeeded.

  • Outlook AnyWhere is enabled.  there are 4 results here as two are previous 2010 servers (coexistence)

[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-ClientAccessServer | fl outlookanywhereenabled

OutlookAnywhereEnabled : True

OutlookAnywhereEnabled : True

OutlookAnywhereEnabled : True

OutlookAnywhereEnabled : True

  • All CAS servers return results for Get-OutlookAnywhere VD's (server name removed for security)

[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl Identity

Identity : \Rpc (Default Web Site)

Identity : \Rpc (Default Web Site)

Identity : \Rpc (Default Web Site)

Identity : \Rpc (Default Web Site)

My problem is that on ONE of the Exchange 2013 servers, there is no actual virtual directory displayed in IIS???? You can see in the images below, one clearly has and the other doesn't.  This is a problem for me, because I am monitoring /rpc/healthcheck.htm in each directory and obviously for the one server it fails.  As this is new servers and I have no mailboxes migrated over yet from the 2010 environment, I don't know if it is going to be a problem in the future.  I expect it will.

Exchange 2013 online mode - hard deleting items from search folders cause reconnect

$

Hello!

I have recently deployed Exchange 2013 in a co-existence scenario with Exchange 2007 and everything is working pretty good. I am now preparing to move ~5000 users to Exchange 2013 in coming weeks.

I have one issue which i can't work around and it has to do with Outlook running in Online mode and deletions in a search folder view. i.e. "Unread email" folder

If i delete an email message from a search folder I get an error message saying the "item could not be deleted. it might already been moved or you do not have access." After that message the item is deleted normally but at the same time the Outlook client reconnects (displays "trying to connect" briefly in the lower right)

This happens in Outlook 2007-2010-2013 in Online mode.

In cached mode it works normally, but this is not an option since we want to run online mode on our large terminal server farm.

things I have tried

- Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013 with latest updates and hotfixes I could find

- I have bypassed our load balancer and it the behaviour is the same.  - New mailboxes created on EX2013 - same behaviour

- Client OS does not seem to matter.

It's not a critical problem, but I guess we will get questions from the users that actively uses these folders.

brief environment config:

Servers: Exchange 2013 SP1: 3 x CAS, 4 MBX on Windows Server 2012 - latest updates everything.

Clients: Outlook 2007-2013, latest updates. Running on Windows Server 2008 R2 mainly.

Any input welcome!

Hi,

We cannot seem to set automatic reply's within outlook 2010 & 2013.  We have an exchange server 2010.  We can setup automatic reply through OWA absolutely fine.   The error that we receive is 'Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable.  Try again later.

However we can setup out of office on any other office version below 2010 fine.   Any help would be appreciated thanks.

S/MIME Issues - Unable to Send Encrypted Responses to External Recipients in Contacts

$

Hello all!

I am using Outlook 2013 with both Exchange Online (Office 365) and with an IMAP server.  The accounts are configured to use two completely separate profiles as Outlook isn't able to handle multiple S/MIME certificates (ahem! FEATURE REQUEST!!! ahem!). LOL

I have actually been having this problem for a long time and none of the KB articles, blog posts, or 3rd party websites seem to address the issue I am experiencing.

My requirement is to send and receive encrypted e-mail from a group of external recipients.  I have valid certificates from each of the recipients and have gone through the painful process of creating individual Contacts for each recipient, then associating the certificates with the respective contacts.

For whatever reason, I am able to send encrypted e-mails to some of my Contacts without issue, but with others I am not. The results are very inconsistent despite the fact that I have all of the Contacts configured in an identical fashion.

The message I receive is probably familiar with most:

Encryption Problems

Microsoft Outlook had problems encrypting this message because the following recipients had missing or invalid certificates, or conflicting or unsupported encryption capabilities:

Username 1, Username 2, etc.

Continue will encrypt and send the message but the listed recipients may not be able to read it.

"Send Unencrypted""Continue" (ALWAYS GREYED OUT)"Cancel"

I have deleted the Contacts and re-created them, I have deleted the Auto-Complete address list for inline auto-complete, I have even tried deleting the profile and re-creating it from scratch.  I have also gone into the Certificates MMC snap-in and tried adding the certificates for the users there.  Still I receive the same error.

This happens regardless of whether the mail server is Exchange (and Publish to GAL is enabled along with custom Mail Contacts), or it is IMAP/POP3/Gmail/etc.

What is the best way to debug this issue?  There doesn't seem to be any sort of advanced logging, that I am aware of, which would allow me to see what the exact issue is.  It's very frustrating because other e-mail clients, such as Mozilla Thunderbird, work just fine with the same recipients.  But I hate Thunderbird and don't want to use it if I can avoid it.

Even Outlook 2011 for Mac OS X works just fine, but Outlook for Windows (2010 and 2013) do not.

I'm about to open a support case with Microsoft Support, but wanted to ask the Microsoft "wizards" here if there are any other options I can try to enlist to resolve the issue on my own.

Folder Assistant not forwarding working on Public Folder

$

We've just completed a 2007 to 2013 Exchange migration for a client.

Everything has gone quite smoothly, even the migration of Public Folders but we're left with a strange problem.

The users all have access to a public folder which they drag emails in, these are then forwarded to a mailbox using the folder assistant then a 3rd party app collects from the mailbox.

This all worked great on 2007 but on 2013, the forwarding from public folders to the mailbox doesn't work.

I've been reading loads about changing send as and receive as permissions but none of these will work and appear to mostly be related to early 2010 exchange server.

Anyone run into this yet?  I suspect that this is something to do with the public folder mailbox not having permission to send messages as the original sender (as the messages which are being dragged are the original messages), but as public folders are now folders inside a mailbox its not clear exactly what needs permission to do what.

Any help greatly appreciated.  Thanks

The Administrator has made a change

Hi!

We are running Exchange 2013 together with Outlook 2013.

After installing Exchange SP1, the following messages appears on all clients:

"The Exchange admin has made a change that requires you to restart Oulook"

This appears when starting Outlook, and also at random intervals when Outlook is running. I have tested to recreate a profile on the client, but this doesn't help. And the message did not apear before Exchange 2013 SP1.

What can I to to make this disapear?

Regards,

Lennart

Unable to send email from Mac using Outlook for Mac 2011

I have a single user that cannot send email from the Mac after migrating to Exchange 2013 on-prem. I myself am on the same Exchange server and am using a Mac with Office 2011 and am able to send/receive emails without any issues.

When the user sends an email it goes to the sent mail folder and syncs with the server and can be seen on a windows machine running any other version of Office (same in OWA). I've logged the user in on my Mac and blown away my profile and seeing the same issue. Not sure if this narrows my issue down to the Exchange server receiving the send request from a Mac or if it's some setting in Outlook on the Mac?

I do not see anything in the logs on the server and have not seen any error son the Mac.

Any thoughts as to where my issues is?

Slow loading of Shared Calendars from O365 in Outlook 2013

$

Hello,

My customer has recently updated their Office suite from 2007 to 2013. Since the update some users that have 3-5 shared calendars in Outlook have been experiencing very slow calendar loads. (During this time the calendar is inaccessible) After 5 minutes or so the calendars load and from that point on they are OK. After a logoff / logon the problem resurfaces again. What should I be investigating to get to the bottom of this?

Many thanks

OWA gives HTTP 500 error for several users

$

Exchange 2013 SP1. Since last week we have the issue that some users are getting an HTTP 500 Internal Server error when they access OWA from the internet after logging on. For other users it works fine. When the users who are having problems access OWA from internally they can logon fine. OWA authentication is set to Windows Integrated.

For external access OWA is published using TMG. No errors are reported in the eventlog of TMG or the Exchange server. Any idea what might cause this? Is there a way to get some more detailed information about the HTTP error 500?

I've checked the issue with inheritance on the AD user object, but the userobjects have inheritance enabled. Also, since it's Exchange 2013 it doesn't have the Form based authentication service which also might cause this error.

Any idea?

Frank.

Hi All,

We are about to tackle on an Exchange 2013 deployment in our organization. We are currently in a one AD domain environment (about 500 mailboxes) and running Exchange 2007, Mailbox role on 1 server, and client access role on another server but in an isolated vlan.  Moving forward with Exchange 2013 and looking at the infrastructure what are the pros/cons of keeping the same structural with Exchange 2013 Mail box on 1 server, and Client Access 2013 on another server but in a isolated vlan.

Thanks,
