Some users get blank OWA page after logon

$

Hello all,

I have the following strange issue:

Some, but not all of our users have issues opening OWA. After logging in, the web page stays blank.

In IIS on the CAS server, I see a HTTP 500 error. On the MBX server, I see the following error (multiple times) at exact the moment the user logs on:

Event 65, MSExchange OWA

An error occurred while the Outlook Web App configuration settings were being loaded. Virtual directory: "owa". Web site: "Exchange Back End".
Error message:
"An IIS directory entry couldn't be created. The error message is Access is denied.
. HResult = -2147024891"

The users do not have other issues. Mail syncs perfectly in Outlook (2013) and on mobile devices.

Environment: Exchange 2013 SP1 (2x CAS servers, load balanced, 3x MBX servers in a DAG).

How can I troubleshoot this?

Regards,

Stephan van der Plas

Random unread emails

One of my clients has a random issue with her emails in her inbox.  She has emails that were read that show up as unread.  The emails have been read because she either forwarded or replied to them and she has a reading pane that shows emails as read in 2 seconds.
Just to be sure that she had in fact read the emails, I marked all the emails in her inbox as read and the next day, when she opened Outlook, she had random emails from previous days and weeks that appeared as unread, more than 20 emails were affected.
She is using Outlook 2010 with Exchange 2013
Now that I have proven that the emails were read and then marked as unread, I have no clue what the next step would be to fix this issue other than what I have done already which was to do a reset views, reset folders, scan the pst file, repair/reinstall Outlook.
Furthermore, there is no link between the emails that mark themselves unread, they are not from the same time of the day, they are not all from external addresses, some are from the same company, they do not have similar subjects or topics.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Jeannie

Hi,

We are on Exchange 2013 SP1 and we are randomly seeing all Outlook 2013 clients getting "the Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change..." forcing them to restart Outlook. Outlook 2010 clients are not affected so seems to be related to Outlook anywhere.

Cant see anything in the event log but seeing some 500 errors in the IIS log.

any ideas on where to look?

Outlook Web Access will only log in as Light Version

My office has been using Microsoft Exchange Outlook Web Access for longer than a year at least. We have been using the full version.  We have a desktop operating Windows 7 with the most updated IE browser, and my computer a Windows 8 laptop with the most updated IE browser. My lap top is where the problem is. As of about two days ago the OWA is only logging in as the Light version. There is an option on the log in screen that says "Use Outlook Web Access Light" and the box is checked and grayed out so that I can not uncheck it. I did not check this myself it just happened. Also the setting for blind and vision impaired users is not checked off in the accessibility tab under options. I have checked the Windows 7 desktop and it is functioning normally.  It allows the user to check or uncheck the "use outlook web access light" at will and does not get stuck in Light version.  Also please note that this is the same email address for both computers not multiple users where one works and one doesn't.  I am charged to monitor the email in our office and do it from the laptop but there is access to it on the desktop if the other employee needs access.  I have also seen forums where they say to change the server to say OWAPremiumClientEnabled. I do not know how to do this.  If this is a possible solution please give me steps on how to access the server which i don't even know if i am connected to.

Hi,

Our OWA website isn't accessible after we installed SP3 and rollup update 13 for Exchange 2007.  When we attempt to visit the OWA URL, all we receive is HTTP 403.4 SSL is required to view this resource.  Doug

Hi

i was advised to post this here as i have tried a few fixes and none have helped

we have an unusual set-up in that our users log onto windows using a normal account and have a mail account setup. however, they also have a second account with second mail account that is set up as a separate mail profile. on the first account, when the users open outlook, it prompts them as to whether they want to use the first or second email account. the credentials are passed then they can open there second mailbox under their first account

here is the issue

when the users try opening the second account, they can do everything but use out of office

the error says the exchange server is unavailable however this isn't correct as the user can till see send and receive emails

any help on this would be greatly appreciated

thanks very much

Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack Upgrade - Outlook connectivity issue

$

Hi,

After upgrading to Exchange Server 2013 service pack 1, we are unable to connect via Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013. Outlook Web Access is working fine though. We have followed all the instructions, and have applied Outlook upgrades, but the issue remain the same. Outlook was working fine before the upgrade.

Have we missed out something. I would highly appreciate if someone can help out? I'm not sure if this is the known issue as I can't seem to find anything on the internet.

Already applied the transport fix.

Thanks in advance!

OWA with blank screen for a single user

Hello. I need some help to troubleshoot a situation on OWA 2013.

This is my scenario: I have a Windows Server 2012 (Not R2) fully updated with Exchange Server 2013 SP1 running.

I have 4 mailbox databases and about 260 mailboxs distributed among them.

My users, can connect through Outloook or OWA internal and external of my network. But theres a single user, which when he logon his account through OWA that shows a blank page with no script error, no source code, nothing. Just blank.

I had done some things to try to fix this with no success.

Had done this http://sumoomicrosoft.blogspot.de/2012/11/exchange-2013-emc-blank-page.html

Had tried to move the mailbox to another database.

Read entry by entry on event viewer to see if i find some error or information about this and no success so far.

Had removed and recreated OWA virtual directory and nothing happened. Still the same damn blank page.

On iis log, theres no usefull information about this access and i have no idea what else i could do to see if i can fix this.

What else you guys suggest for me to check?

Best reggards,

Kelson

Outlook 2013 not down-loeading Emails from IMAP; one message stuck in draft folder

$

Hello,

Not being a computer buff and having gone through the various discussion fora I can't find my specific problem:

1. Outlook gets stuck in the send/receive mode and, subsequently, does not complete the IMAP synchornization, but here is no unsent message in the Outbox.

2. However, there is an old message in the Outlook draft folder (not in visible in the folder of the E-mail account) which I suspect is the reason for the programme to get stuck. I cannot delete and purge that message, despite trying in several ways, online and offline. This message had an 8MB attachment (which I have been able to delete).

3. As a consequence (I assume) Outlook gets entirely blocked at random intervals. When I try to close it the message comes that "Outlook iis not responding" and needs to re-start.

Any advice?

Christoph

User Password change fails in OWA 2013

User Password change fails in OWA with this error: Your password couldn't be changed. Make sure the old password you typed is correct and that the new password meets the minimum security requirements.

We are migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  Have mailboxes in both environments.  OWA 2007 password changes succeed (user mailbox is still in Exchange 2007).  When the user mailbox is moved to Exchange 2013, password changes fail with the above error.

We have the Exch 2013 servers are on Windows 2012 and we are running Exch 2013 CU3.   We have made changes to the Default Role Assignment Policy to prevent users from changing Contact information and setting user photos, etc.  We are not exactly sure when user password changes stopped working, or even if they ever did work, although we recently installed our Prod Exch 2013 servers alongside our 2007 servers without any RBAC delegation implemented and a quick test of a user password change was successful.

I reversed all the changes to the Default Role Assignment Policy but the password change still fails.

Got a lab environment to test Office Web App Server integration with Exchange 2013

i have followed the instructions given here

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/jj219455

http://technet.microsoft.com/library/2591b1be-92c4-4192-9f5e-e4e6b319170a

After all required configuration , i am still unable to preview the office documents from OWA

Receiving the following messages by clicking on the Preview link next to the attachment:

Word Document : "Sorry, there was a problem and we can't open this document. If this happens again, try opening the document in Microsoft Word."
Excel Document: "We couldn't find the file you wanted. It's possible the file was renamed, moved or deleted"
PowerPoint: "Sorry, we ran into a problem. Please try again"

As suggested i even see the Application Log the 140 and 142 Event IDs for MSExchange OWA
Already configured to enable the rendering of attachments through OWAS both on public and private computers:

This is what I can see in the ULS log on the Web App Server

MSoft 365 not updating inboc via Outlook 2013

I switched over from hosted outlook exchange to MSoft 365.  I am using a windows 8 machine.  Yesterday I was able to successfully see my new 365 account from outlook 2013, but in the mid-afternoon it stopped updating the inbox.  Online I can see new email in the inbox.  I can send mail. Yesterday I successfully imported my large backup with emails, calendar items, and contacts.  They all seem to be working fine.

On the bottom, it says "updating inbox" but that never ends.  When I click send/receive it starts but the bar never completes.Sometimes it says updating hierarchies.

I've been researching and just started outlook in safe mode.  I am getting the same problems, however, when I click send/receive, the progress bar provides an time estimate -- the number started around 20 minutes and has been increasing.  It tells me now it will be 2 hours to update.

There are maybe 50 emails queued up.  None of them are large or have large attachments.

In other research, I have seen suggestions to Uncheck "When displaying hierarchy in Outlook, show only subscribed folders, but I cannot find IMAP folders.  I have tried using all the suggestions in office help to find IMAP folders, but none of them work, including hitting ALT O then I.

I have a feeling the problem does involve an unsynchronized folder hierarchy, but this is just a gut feeling.  I am not an IT person by training.

I am the admin.

Thanks!

GSSAPI with IMAP on Exchange 2013 SP1

We are setting up Exchange 2013 SP1 in our Exchange 2010 test environment to verify our upcoming migration. I have found out that for some reason I can't get the IMAP service in Exchange 2013 to work with Kerberos (GSSAPI) authentication with Thunderbird as a client. It does work fine in Exchange 2010 SP3 though.

Exchange 2010 SP3 response in Thunderbird:

* CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 AUTH=NTLM AUTH=GSSAPI AUTH=PLAIN UIDPLUS CHILDREN IDLE NAMESPACE LITERAL+

Exchange 2013 SP1 response in Thunderbird:

 * CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 AUTH=PLAIN UIDPLUS CHILDREN IDLE NAMESPACE LITERAL+

AUTH=GSSAPI is missing and therefore I can't blame Thunderbird from complaining about this. If I compare the output from Get-ImapSettings I can't find anything that would indicate why I shouldn't work. EnableGSSAPIAndNTLMAuth is $true on both server and LoginType is SecureLogin.

On http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj619283(v=exchg.150).aspx I found out that NTLM is not supported on Exchange 2013 for POP3 and IMAP4 but Kerberos (GSSAPI) and Plain Text Authentication with SSL still is.

Has anyone got IMAP to work with Kerberos authentication on Exchange 2013 SP1?

Your Out of Office settings cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later.

OWA and pop up notifications

Hello All,

We are currently using Exchange 2010 and have most of our employees using OWA with a third party program that shows a pop up notification when an email arrives into their inbox. I want to know if Exchange 2013 will have these pop up notifications for their new OWA or if third party applications is the best way to go.

When I say Pop up notifications, I mean the icon of an envelope at the bottom right of your monitor that shows up when email arrives in regular outlook. :)
