Cannot Connect Outlook 2013 to Exchange 2013

$

Good afternoon,

I recently installed Exchange 2013. I can connect to ECP/OWA via a web browser without any issues - inside and externally. I have successfully created a pop connector and mail is flowing from my test gmail account through the connector in to Exchange. I can also successfully send and receive email - and the external recipient gets the email. Lastly, I can connect to the exchange server from my phone, and all those features work.

What I can't seem to do is get Outlook 2013 to connect to the exchange server - and it is driving me insane! I have used a brand new test laptop with a fresh copy of Outlook 2013 on it - to rule out any pre-existing profile issues. I open Outlook and it auto-completes the server name (in my case the server's name is Exchange), and it autofills in my username. I then get a couple SSL prompts about the cert not matching the server - I can deal with these later. When it gets to the configuring screen it has a green check next to Establishing Network Connection and Searching for testuser@mydomain.com (not my real info). I then get an alert that says: "The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."

I then installed Outlook on the actual Exchange server, and it does the exact same thing. I cannot tell you how many installs I have done over the years that were much smoother and pretty much worked the 1st time. What am I missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How are people restricting access to the SSL bug that was discovered. We put in ActiveSync rules to block the versions of IOS. What about OS X mail app and just browsing the OWA?

Syncing contact photos between Outlook 2011 for Mac and the rest

$

Hello, I installed Office for Mac 2011 and when it synced the contacts (through Exchange), most of the contact photos now no longer show in OWA or in Outlook 2013 from my Windows PC's. They are not lost: In Outlook 2013 (for windows) they appear instead under "Notes", in the form of a thumbnail jpeg. On my Mac, however, the photos show up correctly. None of my windows accounts (e.g., windows phone) now show any photos any longer. I tried some troubleshooting: I deleted all my contacts from everything, and imported them back to Outlook for Mac and synced them, but the photos still show only under "notes" in the Windows accounts.

How can I solve the issue? I see the same problem reported by other people, but I am not aware of a resolution.

Custom Retention policies for default folders in Outlook

$

Hello,

The following are the steps I've taken to create a retention policy for a user.Exchange 2013, outlook 2013

The problem is that even if I create a retention tag for a default folder, I cannot implement it. I've gotten retention tags for user created folders to work, but not the default folders.

  1. Login to microsoft 365 as exchange Administrator
  2. Click Admin > Exchange
  3. Click ‘Compliance Management’ on left side
  4. Click ‘Retention Tags’
  5. Create desired retention tag by folder (choose default folder or user created folder)
  6. Save each tag as it is created
  7. Click ‘Retention Policies’
  8. Click ‘New’ to create a new policy
  9. Add desired tags to policy and click save
  10. To apply Retention Policy click ‘Recipients’ on left side
  11. Click ‘mail boxes’

12. Select user and click edit > mailbox features

13.  Select desired retention policy

14. Save

Using this method I created a retention tag to delete mail in the junk mail folder after 14 days. I added the 14 day junk mail retention tag to a retention policy and applied it to a user. But whenever I look at the junk mail folder it shows that the email will be deleted in 30 days --- not 14.

What am I doing wrong?

Exchange 2013 Randomly Disconnects Outlook Users

$

Hello Everyone,

We are experience a very strange issue with our Exchange Server, we are currently running Exchange Server 2013 and our clients are Outlook 2007, 2010 and 2013.

The clients are randomly disconnecting for random periods of time; all clients will do so.  If the user closes outlook and re-opens it generally will reconnect and no issues.  If the user is using Outlook 2013 it seems often it will reconnect by itself without requiring a restart of the client.

During a disconnect on the client computers; if I look at the connection status it will show a random number of connections ranging from 8 to 16 connections to the exchange server.  Typically when outlook is showing disconnected 2-4 of these connections will say trying to connect; or disconnected.

The server itself is still running and users can go to Web Mail and still have access to their emails during these disconnects.  Stranger yet is when users get disconnected it is not all users at the same time, one user may get disconnected and reconnected and than 20 minutes later someone else will get disconnected.

It seems to be a connection limitation on the server but I have increased the tcp/ip max connections allowed as well as tried some different time out settings on the server.  Neither fixed the issue.  Any help to solve this would be appreciated, I am fairly new to Exchange administration so you may need some patience with me as some tasks I may need more help to complete than others.  We have been fighting this issue since the initial upgrade of the server from 2007 to 2013.  During the upgrade we did find out that the previous server had been removed incorrectly and there was much clean up required and it could be related currently.  Although I am not 100% sold that this is the reason for the random disconnects.

Cheers,

How to configure redirection in coexistence 2010/2013 ?

$

In a coexistence and project migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, I cannot use the CAS 2013 to publish OWA services and proxy EX2010 mailboxes.

On CAS2010 there is a Symantec archiving solutions which OWA custom extensions doesn't work if the OWA2010 connections is received from CAS2013 in a proxy mode.

I'm looking a way to publish both 2010 and 2013 CAS server with 2 different external URL. Use the primary URL owa.company.com/owa to login on CAS2013 and in case the mailbox is on EX2010 a redirect legacy.compay.com/owa should be connect the user to the CAS2010.

Follow my scenario:

  • Two Exchange 2013 Server (CU3) with CAS role
  • Two Exchange 2013 Server (CU3) with Mailbox (in a DAG)
  • Two Exchange 2010 CAS Servers SP3
  • Two Exchange 2010 Mailbox Servers SP3 (in a DAG)

Actually any services (POP, IMAP, EWS, ActiveSync, Outlook Anywhere) are published by CAS2013 and are working fine with the proxy mode.

I configured different ExternalUrl and InternalUrl for CAS2010 and CAS2013, but when a mailbox user logon on CAS2013 it proxy the OWA page then a redirect.

Googling I understand is it possibile just configuring different ExternalUrl on CAS, but it's doesn't work to me.

thanks

Disabling Outlook Anywhere for External Users with Exchange 2013

$

For security reasons we need to disable Outlook Anywhere for our external Exchange 2013 users.

Since Exchange 2013 explicitly uses Outlook Anywhere for internal and external Outlook connections using "Set-CASMailbox -id <user> -MAPIBlockOutlookRpcHttp:$True" is not an option as it will break all Outlook connections.  Also, nulling out the external Outlook Anywhere hostname does not seem to work since we don't use ambiguous namespaces for internal and external connections.

We are looking into the option of totally disabling our external autodiscover setting, but I believe if the user still knows the server information they will be able to make a connection anyway, plus we would like to use autodiscover for ActiveSync.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Exchange 2013 - OWA Password Expired - Requiring DOMAIN\Username

$

Hello,

We have recently upgraded from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 CU2. When a user's password expires and they login to OWA, the system allows them to change the password. However, Exchange 2013 OWA requires them to use the format 'DOMAIN\username' and it will not except just the username or username@domain.com.  This was not an issue in Exchange 2010.

Is there a way to resolve this issue?

Thank you

Free busy issue outlook 2010

I am sorry if i am posting this in the wrong place.

We have exchange 2010 sp3 in 3 sites ( US , UK and Africa)

Users in UK start complaining they are not able to See free busy of US users but can see free busy of UK and African users.

We later identified this could be due to the more no of groups which result in increased token size, so we removed 1 users couple of group membership and  he was able to see free busy of other users in US.

Then we have done a registry change in all CAS server to set MAX token zize

  1. Create the following registry keys on all CAS servers ( Exchange Server 2010 SP1 CAS servers) in the Active Directory site:
    • Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters
      Name: MaxFieldLength
      Type: DWORD
      Value data: 65534
    • Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters
      Name: MaxRequestBytes
      Type: DWORD
      Value date: 16777216

But now users start complaining that they now cant see free busy of africa and US users, This affected only 5 users and all user outlook 2010.

P.S: No luck with OWA also for these users.

Please suggest.

Surface RT Mail doesn't Sync for 13 Days!

Hi Folks, I have a work email using Exchange Server 2003. It hasn't been able to sync for the past 13 days, no update on mails and calendar. Any idea why? It works okay on my Note 3 phone, and even at TouchDown in Surface RT, just not the original Mail App of Surface RT.

So frustrating!

Re: IMAP on Exchange Server

Hi,

We currently use IMAP in our office as all members of our team need to be able to read and send from the same mailbox.  Unfortunatley our team is growing and the system is slowing down.  We have exchange but have an issue I am hoping one of you may be able to tell me how to fix.

IMAP - Each client can clearly see what emails they have that are read/unread.  We need to be able to do this so no emails are missed and not replied to.

Exchange - Once one client reads the email it shows as read and there is no way of knowing if each individual has seen the email.

What I need to fix is the issue of having the item marked read.  What can we do so that each client can see what emails they have read.  Is this possible?  Are there any bugs that we can put in to make this work?

Thanks

Office 365 - Mailbox Delegation

$

We are having trouble with mailbox delegation.  I'd like my staff to be able to add and remove other's mailboxes from their Outlook from time to time. I've granted "Full Access" in the Exchange admin center.  This causes the mailbox to show up in their mailbox list without using the Advanced tab in the Account Settings area of Outlook, "Open these additional mailboxes."  I, personally, want access to 15 others mailboxes from time to time, but I don't want all 15 listed in my Outlook all the time.  When I grant full access, it shows on the mailbox list in Outlook but the users are not able to remove it, only me via the Exchange admin center.  Is there a solution to my issue?  Thank you!

OWA and ECP not working

Hi!

I have problems logging in to the OWA and ECP applications.

The forms based login page is displayed, but when I tri to log in, I get the following error:

401 - Bad request

And in the server log file (WWW) i get the error code  2148074254 which stands for "No credentials are available in the security package".

What is wrong? I can't find any documentation on how the authentication should be set up for the two web sites (Default & Exchange back end).

Right now, it is set as follows:

"owa (default web site)" : Basic authentication & forms authentication

"owa (Exchange back end)":  Anonymous & Windows authentication

How should these be setup? It doesn't help to recreate the virual directorys in the Exchange powershell...

Access shared mailbox in a cross forest deployment

Hi all,

We had a cross-forest Exchange migration (2010 => 2013) last weekend and now we've trouble with a shared mailbox:

I try to connect a shared mailbox from the resource forest to an Outlook (2010) client in the user forest. The user has no linked mailbox, but fullaccess permission for the shared mailbox.

When I set up the email profile Outlook says it can't find the name in the addresslist.

(Mailbox isn't hidden from addresslist).

Thanks,

Jonas

Exchange seems to Overwrite Clients Favorites MSX 2013 CU3 Office 2013

$

Hi,

it seems that exchange 2013 overwrites the users favorite list everytime it starts.
we start outlook 2013; we add some favorites to the favorites list and restart the software
some, not all favorites will disappear. if we start the client ( outlook 2013 ) again some other
favorites will disapear until the whole list is emtpy.

it doesnt matter if
- the client is within the AD
- GPOs activated or not
- own mailbox or other mapped mailbox content is linked as favorite

BUT when i deactivate the connection to the exchange server 2013 cu3/disable the NIC
the favorites are still in place as we wish.

where does this come from ? how can i disable this ?

Setup:

Windows 7 Clients, Outlook 2010 - Outlook 2013, AD, 2 Exchange Server 2013 CU3.

thx in advance!

Unable to access OWA or ECP. - "Something went wrong" or "500 unexpected error"

Our environment consist of 3 client access servers with 8 mailbox servers.  I recently installed windows updates on all of the servers.  Now when a user tries to access OWA it fails and says "Something went wrong" when I try to access ECP I receive "500 unexpected error"

I have tried building a new CAS and mailbox servers with the default settings but it still fails.  I did not install the latest Windows updates on the new servers.  I tried creating new databases with new users and it also fails.

There are also these ASP.NET 4.0.30319.0 warnings showing in the application log:
