Exchange 2013 Public Folders search not returning all results

$

I've just migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013 and all went ok apart from the usual migration hiccups.

Public folders was a pain but ended up working. I have an odd issue though that when I open Outlook 2010 and navigate to the PF and search for an item it doesn't return all results. It actually returns not many at all. The same records are returned and not returned, so for example if I search for 'a' or 'd' or 'da' it will always return the Dave record, but never return Dan record.

I turned off the Search Host Controller service and found I actually get more results returned correctly but still not all results. I've since turned it on because I don't think it is a good idea to leave it off.

I've created a new folder and added new entries and the search seems to work fine (although there isn't as many entries as the actual one so I need to test further) so it seems like it's an issue with the migrated folders.

The 2007 server is still turned on and I haven't removed the PF which is the last step of the migration but I don't want to do that till I'm happy all is fine.

Any ideas?

Side note, I did make a mistake of doing the migration while Exchange 2013 was RTM not updated to CU3. I'm a rookie and when Exchange checked for updates and found none I figured I was good to go. Everything went fine though. When the PF migrated I kept getting a transient error ResourceUnhealthyException but after a few shots it just started working. The PF folder structure and perms are all fine. I've now upgraded to CU3 but my only issue is this search issue.

Exchange 2013 OWA - Open Shared Group

$

We have users who create personal distribution groups by using their Outlook clients (2007/2010/2013), and when the groups are shared and opened with Outlook clients the users are able to view the shared group.  Everything works fine when its client to client.

Now, we have thousands of users who only use OWA 2013 as their primary source for email.  When a client user sends a sharing invitation to an OWA user, the OWA  user is not able to open/view the invite and they receive the following error:

The action couldn't be completed.

An error occurred and your request couldn't be completed.  If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk with this HTTP status code: 500.

Now, what's strange is that the user sending the shared distribution group is sending it out as a shared group, but in OWA it is received as a Shared Calendar.

Is there any way that a user in OWA 2013 can open a shared distribution group that was created by a user who was using an Outlook Client?

Exchange 2013 / 2010 co-existence - Outlook won't connect to Exchange 2010 mailboxes

Greetings!  I have a lab set up at home where I have been testing co-existence of Exchange 2013 and 2010 for a future corporate upgrade project.

I am running into some odd behavior.  Any mailbox that has been migrated to Exchange 2013 works just fine, however, when I try to set up Outlook for a mailbox still on Exchange 2010 I  receive errors.  OWA works just fine for these Exchange 2010 mailboxes, it is just Outlook that has the problem.  This is what I am running into:

1. Outlook uses autodiscover to locate server settings.  It fails at the 'logging on to mail server' step saying that Exchange isn't available; Outlook must be connected, etc.

2. It then gives me the settings box for Exchange server and Mailbox.  This is auto populated with one of the Exchange 2013 servers (there are 3 of them, all have both MBX and CAS role).  If I then change the server to the Exchange 2010 CAS server, and hit 'check names', it underlines the very same entries (like it found them this time) that were there initially and goes on to finish the configuration.

3. When I launch Outlook with this Exchange 2010 user, it fails to open with the error message that the set of folders couldn't be opened.

I've been doing as much research on this as I can.  I've tried disabling IPv6 to no avail.  It seems as if perhaps the issue is with Exchange 2013 proxying the request back to the Exchange 2010 servers but I am not sure what to check in that regards.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance!

Site-to-Site VPN 2 Exchange Servers autodiscover error

$

It doesnt get any more basic:

2 Windows 2012 on a site-to-site vpn same domain. Ex. server1.contoso.local and server2.contoso.local

Both servers are Domain Servers w/ Exchange 2013 CAS roles

I have configured mailbox databases on both servers and configured users to the database of the server local to them.

I have configured a SRV internally for the _autodiscover

Both servers exchange settings for owa, autodiscover, ecp... all point to their local address. Ex: server1 = server1.contoso.local

My problem is Domain Authenticated users on the internal networks MS Outlook will change their Exchange proxy settings to the wrong server. Ex: user1 on server1 but proxy setting has changed to server2.contoso.local

I can manually change the setting back to the correct server but every so often it will switch them to the other server?

Hi,

I have only two Exchange 2013 server in my organization and on each server Mailbox/Client server Role has been installed and DAG is configured, No smart host we are using for security.

Earlier I was facing problem of spam and spoof mails, so I configured open relay on Default receive connector. After configuration of open relay, spam and spoof mails issue was resolved but after that in All IMAP and POP configured users unable to send email to outside domain, but able to receive mails from outside domain. All Users are able to send/ Receive emails through OWA and MAPI.

So only IMAP and POP users not able to send mail to outside domain, Internal is working fine.

Different Exchange Server Accounts on Outlook

Hi there,

I've been researching this a while and can't find a definitive answer.

Can you have multiple exchange mail accounts in outlook that are from different servers? (ie different & separate companies, setups etc).

The user is on Outlook 2013. Our server is Exchange Online. I don't know the other companies server setup.

Many thanks.

Gus

Outlook prompts for password

$

Hi

We are in a migration of Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013, so for the moment it is a coexistence.

I migrated 2 mailboxes to Exchange 2013. After the migration, outlook started prompting for a password by starting outlook. Once the password has been entered, outlook works fine. But that happens only if outlook cache mode is active. If I disable cached mode, outlook starts without prompting for a password.

So I deactivated cached mode, deleted the ost file and again activated cached mode. Now Outlook starts without prompting for a password, even if cached mode is active.

Deleting the ost file for 1 or 2 users is fine, but not if there are 200 more mailboxes to migrate.

I cannot reproduce the behavior with test mailboxes, created after Exchange 2013 has been installed into the organization. All these mailboxes can be migrated without password prompts.

By the way, I found different posts about the authentication settings for outlook anywhere. I found on Exchange 2007 that the ClientAuthenticationmode was Basic, while NTLM on Exchange 2013. So I changed it to NTLM as well. Everything is still working.

I am going to migrate 2 more mailboxes, and I will see tomorrow if the problem still exists.

Any Suggestion?

Regards
Peter

Error as OWA session handed off from 2013 to 2010

I am moving from Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 CU3. All has been going well until OWA. When users hit the URL (internally or externally; same) the blue OWA login screen appears fine. When I logon with an account that's on 2013, it works flawlessly. At first, when I logged on with an account on 2010, an extra /owa got appended to the end of the URL (i.e.,https://server/owa/owa) and I was not connected to the mailbox. I found that I could simply backspace the extra owa out, hit ENTER and be connected to the 2010 mailbox. However, now there is no hand-off to the 2010 CAS/OWA at all.

I guess I just need overall help with getting the virtual directories and authentications set properly. Thank you for any help.

Shared contacts in Outlook Web App

Hi

We have different customers which started to work with Exchange 2013, and they need to share some contact address lists to be accessible in outlook web app.

In Exchange 2010 the solution was to provide these external contact lists using public folders.  But as I found in different postings, Exchange 2013 Outlook Web App can only display “mail public folders”, or public folders that contain “mail and post items”. Other folders like calendars, contacts, tasks, and so forth are unsupported.

By searching for a solution, I found that this feature seems to be missing by a lot of MS customers. My question is, do you (Microsoft) plan to bring that back in the future?

"Couldn't start this app" error when trying to open Action Items and any other built-in apps

Hi all,

When I try to open the Action Items app within an email in OWA, I get the error seen in the screenshot. In Outlook 2013, the frame comes up with a 404 error.

Third party apps load fine.

This is a new install of Exchange 2013 Enterprise with CU2. Everything else seems to be working fine. I have tried rebooting the server and disabling and re-enabling the apps with no luck. Can't seem to find anything in the Event Log about it.

Any ideas why this would happen and how to fix it?

Please explain clearly how do you retrieve missing email messages that got trapped in the folder outbox.  I restarted outlook and it lost my emails.  Normally in an older version, it would either stay in my outbox or send them upon reopening.  Please HELP
