Exchange OWA suddenly unavailable for 30 minutes

Hi,

We just had a problem where one would browse to OWA, sign on with any given user, and get the ":-( something went wrong"-message.

Upon viewing the logs, error-events were shown with the following detailed info:

source: MSExchange OWA

eventID: 137

task category: core

System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: The performance counter: "Current Users" is not supported to be updated by method Globals.IncrementCurrentUsersCounterBy(). Parameter name: performanceCounter at Microsoft.Exchange.Clients.Common.PerformanceCounterManager.IncrementCurrentUsersCounterBy(ExPerformanceCounter performanceCounter, Int64 incrementValue) at Microsoft.Exchange.Clients.Common.PerformanceCounterManager.DecrementUserPerfCounters(String userName, Boolean isProxy, Boolean isLightExperience) at Microsoft.Exchange.Clients.Owa2.Server.Core.UserContextManager.TerminateSession(UserContext userContext, CacheItemRemovedReason abandonedReason) at Microsoft.Exchange.Clients.Owa2.Server.Core.UserContextManager.UserContextRemoved(Object parameters)

The only thing I did was restart IIS (after which the problem persisted) and begin the updating process. Anyone have a clue what may have caused this error?

Exchange Server 2010 Sp2 - Strange OOF issue with a single user.

Dear Team members,

I had a chance to work on a strange issue. I have scanned over the net but this problem is no where documented, not even on the Microsoft sites. So thought of sharing it with you all.

Problem:User is unable to set Out of Office (OOF) from Outlook client, error - Your Out of Office settings cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later.

 Symptoms:

-        From OWA user was able to set OOF.

-         Not a machine or Outlook version specific issue as it was reproducible from different machine and Outlook versions.

-         Autodiscover was failing for this user with error code - 0x800C8203.

-         A new mailbox was also giving to the affected user but still no go.

Root Cause:

The user’s Primary SMTP address was - abc.x&y@domain.com

Outlook & Exchange don’t understand characters like ‘&’. They assume this to be some code so its ignored.

For more information refer the below link,

Characters that are not supported for object names in Exchange

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841091

Here is what happend when Outlook was launch to config. the profile automatically,

1)     When Outlook was launched; it automatically found the logged in user’s SMTP address as - abc.x&y@domain.com

2)     After hitting the Next; When searching for the mailbox, it removed the ‘&’ from the SMTP.

3)     The below error was pop up,

4)     Autodiscover logs showed the below strings,

6224       0x1FC3C268        06/05/13 19:58:23            Autodiscover tohttps://cas.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml Failed(0x800C8203)

6224       0x1FC3C268        06/05/13 19:58:23            Autodiscover tohttps://domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml starting

6408       0x1FC3DA74       06/05/13 19:58:29            GetLastError=12002; httpStatus=0.

However, manually we were able to config. The profile since we were using the Alias.

Solution:

-         Added the Primary SMTP for the user as - abc.x.y@domain.com

-         Made the old SMTP address as Secondary - abc.x&y@domain.com

This way user was able to use Out of Office from Outlook and were also able to receive emails from their old email address.

Outlook Rules vs Outlook Out Of Office Replies

What order does MS Outlook apply rules and out of office responses?

I have a user that will be going on vacation soon. They have many Outlook automatic forwarding rules or moving mails to different folder rules already set up inside their outlook.

If a rule is set up that forwards a copy and deletes the original I need to make sure that when the out of office rules is setup, that the rule is still applied and that no out of office response is returned when that rule is tripped.

Do Out of Office replies and Out of Office rules get applied before outlook rules?  We are using Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2010.

Thank you for any assistance.

Exchange 2013 - OWA Password Expired - Requiring DOMAIN\Username

Hello,

We have recently upgraded from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 CU2. When a user's password expires and they login to OWA, the system allows them to change the password. However, Exchange 2013 OWA requires them to use the format 'DOMAIN\username' and it will not except just the username or username@domain.com.  This was not an issue in Exchange 2010.

Is there a way to resolve this issue?

Thank you

HI,

I have a small 50 user exchange server 2013 that was upgraded from exchange 2003. I uninstalled 2003 to update the schema and this allowed me to install exchange 2013.

The issue i'm facing is, OWA works perfectly and mailflow is ok, but the outlook clients can't connect, auto-discovery works well because the establish connection and search for address are check off bu fails on the logon server with a GUIID {GuID@domain.com} as the server name and a mailbox with =SMTP:user@domain.com

I cant figure out what's wrong, I can't enter the server netbios or dns name, I still get server not available

Hi all,

i have very big problems and no one solution found in the internet help me.

Environment:

Root Domain: "germany.local" hosted on 2 sites (1 DC in Munich, 1 DC in Frankfurt)
 - The 4 new exchange servers (2 on every site) (everyone with Mailbox and Access Roles) installed in this Root Domain.
 - SSL Certificates are created with Enterprise CA on the Root Domain for each Exchange 2013 server.

Child Domains: "muc.germany.local" (site Munich) and "ffo.germany.local" (site Frankfurt).
 - on every site in the child domains located the Exchange 2010 Servers (2 CAS in Array and 2 Mailbox servers on each site)

All our Users are managed and hosted in the child Domains.

I installed the new exchange 2013 servers in the root, because we need to have the feasibillity to failover mailboxes to the other site for our BCP Planning.

After i installed Exchange 2010 SP3, Exchange 2013 + CU1 it looks all very fine.

I created a test account on "muc.germany.local" and created a mailbox on a new exchange 2013 server on munich site.
 - OWA works!
 - ECP works!

- But Outlook 2010 (last SP) and Outlook 2013 wont connect if i setup the new created user Profile in the outlook wizzard.

- totaly confused in the username resolution on outlook wizzard take my exchange 2010 cas array servername.

i dont know why!!! Please help me.

Additional Infos:

Exchange Certificates hold DNS entries:
- autodiscover.germany.local
- SERVERNAME (the NetBios name)
- servername.germany.local
- germany.local

Our Exchange Servers are not connected / reachable from the internet for clients.
For sending / recieving Mails (to/from outside) we using E-Mail Gateways configured as smarthosts on our exchange servers.

Every Site have an own ip range.

Please help me please!

Thanks a lot!!!

Office 365 Outlook 2010 - received emails in Outlook 2010 and OWA sometimes arrive as drafts

We have recently moved to Office365 to handle our emails.

We are using Outlook 2010 (part of Office Pro Plus 2010) configured to access Exchange accounts on Office365.

Initially one user was being affected by some emails arriving in their inbox as unread draft messages.   When opened, the message is in edit mode as though we were sending an email to someone and not receiving it.   We are unable to reply to the email or forward it.

This problem has now spread to a further two users.

Please can anyone offer any help on this issue?

Thank you.

Exchange 2013 OWA About option missing

Does anyone knows what happened to About in OWA 2013?

That option is pretty handy when you have to troubleshoot OWA connections to CAS Server and other info which this option provides from OWA interface.

Thanks in advance.

Can you block emails from being received between certain hours

Is there anyway in Exchange 2010 or on the client end to stop emails being delivered to an account out of working hours, or set hours.

E.g An individual in the organisation doesn't want to reveive emails between 8pm and 8am the following day and would like them to be held on the server and delivered at 8am, can this be done?

Users being prompted for Domain credentials when opening Outlook

5 Years ago I migrated our organization from Ex2003 to Ex2007. The last Ex2003 server was removed as per Microsoft procedures. Over this period of time users will be prompted for credentials when opening Outlook. This behavior does not occur all of the time which makes this all the more puzzling. I use Outlook 2013 and am prompted all of the time. The remainder of the company uses Outlook 2007 where the prompting occurs sporadically. What am I overlooking?

Outlook 2010 / Exchange 2010 shared mailbox problem

Exchange 2010 SP2

Outlook 2010 SP1 32-bit  /  Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

User profile is configured with a primary mail account for each user and a couple of shared email accounts for team work.  When a user sends an email "From" one of the shared accounts, the email is stored in the Sent Items folder of that account.

This is not the desired behavior.  In fact, the default behavior (according to numerous docs I have found, from MS and other sources) is for those emails to go to the Sent Items folder of the sending user - in their primary mailbox.

I can find all kinds of people on the web who want the behavior I am seeing, and they have to make sure a hotfix (or SP1) is installed and then a registry tweak is made.  I have SP1, but have not made that registry tweak, yet it won't put those darned emails where I want.

I have tried removing the profile, deleting the .ost files, rebooting, standing on one leg - I have been totally unable to change the behavior back to what's supposed to be the default.

So, can anyone suggest something?

Thanks.

Strange server name determined by Outlook New Account Wizard

$

If I connect Outlook 2010 with Exchange Server 2013 the New Account Wizard determines a strange server name like ..6767-E455-B456.domain.com, even though the server name is SRV01.

If I manually configure SRV01 it's not possible to get connected.

If I use the strange server name a Security Alert occurs that "The security certificate was issued by a company you have not choosen to trust."

Where does it come from and how can I overcome this problem?

Outlook clients can't see new Exchange 2013 Server

$

Upgrade from Exchange 2003 (rip and replace). Configured internal and external urls, imported public certificate from the old server.  Everything external, Outlook Anywhere, Outlook Web Access and Active-sync all work (except for autodiscover certificate error).  Internally Outlook (2010 & 2013) will not see the Exchange server, and Outlook web access reports a certificate mismatch (the public certificate, not the internal self signed certificate is presented to the client). If I configure Outlook Anywhere externally, I can bring the notebook local and Outlook will work, but slowly and with a lot of protesting (cert and proxy errors).

Not surprisingly, the remote connectivity analyzer passes, but running
Test-OutlookWebServices locally fails on the 'Autodiscover Outlook Provider' Scenario, reporting an invalid remote certificate.  I am assuming Exchange is presenting the public certificate.  Is there a way to have Exchange use the self signed certificate for the local users?

Thanks in advance,

Greg

HELP - Exchange/Mailbox Rules - Sequential/rotation distribution" mechanism for a mailbox

$

Hello all, we are looking at solution to implement the following mechanism for a mailbox

e.g. :

6 Messages arrives to the mailbox

Message 1(arrives the earliest) Moves to Sub Folder 1 under Inbox

Message 2 Moves to Sub Folder 2

Message 3 Moves to Sub Folder 3

Message 4 Moves to Sub Folder 1

Message 5 Moves to Sub Folder 2

Message 6(arrives the latest) Moves to Sub Folder 3 under Inbox

so fore and so on.

We've tried the time based rules >http://danfolkes.com/2011/02/18/outlook-rule-only-at-specific-times/

but our management didn't like it.

If there is no such rule can be applied to implement this mechanism, any suggestion on commercial solutions / add-ons are welcome too.

Thanks in advance.

What's the best way to change the default settings of new mailbox?    (e.g. disable POP, IMAP, EAS, RPC-HTTP access for all new mailbox)

Is scripting agent extension still the way to go?
