2013 Outlook (Pro) intermittently receives emails from 365 Exchange (365 Midsize Business)

My boss/owner is intermittently receiving emails in his local Outlook 2013 Professional Edition (I am talking about the full version of Office Outlook, not Office 365 local apps or the 365 web).  He is supposed to get emails from an Exchange account I have set up for our office from Office 365 MidSize Business.  He does still get them on his iphone which at this writing I believe is IMAP'd.

Exchange 2010 SP3 RU1 and Outlook 2010 Connectivity Issues

$

Hello everyone,

I'm setting up an Exchange 2010 environment as part of a migration from our single physical Exchange 2007 server.  The 2010 environment looks like this:

2x Barracuda virtual load balancing appliances
2x Ex 2010 Standard CAS servers, in a CAS Array, virtualized
2x Ex 2010 Enterprise mailbox servers, in a DAG, virtualized

The virtualization platform is VMware 5.0.  I followed Microsoft's documentation on setting up the 2010 environment and had no issues in any part of that setup.  With the load balancers, I followed Barracuda's documentation on setting things up and even had them on the phone double checking and verifying the settings were correct, which they said they were.

The problem I'm experiencing is that when I move a mailbox into the 2010 environment and start up Outlook, I run into considerable connectivity issues.  I'll explain further --

By default, it sets itself up in Cached Exchange Mode.  From there, when Outlook opens, the pop-up bubble saying I've lost connection shows up within a minute or so.  When I open the Exchange Connection Status screen (CTRL+Right Click on the Outlook icon in the systray) I can watch as the connections to my CAS Array address disconnect and reconnect.  In the Req/Fail column, I see a number of Fail attempts alongside the Requests, and average response time is well within normal limits.

In the event log, the only thing I see on my client machine is Outlook information even 26; stating that Outlook has lost connection, then regained it.  I'm seeing no errors on the Exchange even logs, and no events/warnings are showing up from the load balancers.

From Barracuda, they recommended that I disable one of the two CAS servers in the load balancer configuration.  This would allow my client connection to choose a specific CAS server, as well as rule out persistent connection issues (so they told me).  I had done this and to no avail.  My next step was to open a ticket with Microsoft, but since it's late on a Friday, I think I'll wait until Monday and see what the community may come up with.

Many thanks,

Rick

I have Outlook 2010 in cached mode connected to Exchange 2003 server. When I enter a keyword Outlook brings up tons of completely unrelated emails which don't even contain the keyword I entered. How can this be fixed?

Exchange 2013 cached mode issue

I am testing an Exchange 2013 server. Everything was working fine but now Outlook clients running in cached mode do not save any of the embedded email images locally. When you view an email, the images load ok, and then go to another email and load the images, and when you go back to the first email Outlook needs to retrieve the images all over again. Every time you open an email it's as if you've never opened it to retrieve the content before. If I switch Outlook offline and then try to view emails, none of the embedded images are there [because it can't retrieve them from the server]. Any idea why it's not being cached locally? Again, this was not an issue until after making some configuration changes, some of which had to do with forcing SSL & NTLM.

Exchange 2013 local users cannot access mail

I am in the process of migrating from exchange 2007 on server 2008 to exchange 2013 on server 2008 r2.  So far the install and migration was going without issue.  I have moved the majority of the mailboxes to the new database and the move is going without issue.

Outlook anywhere is working from outside of the office and phones are syncing without issue.
The issue I am having is the local Outlook clients will not work.  When I open them up I expected them to switch to the new server like in previous exchange migrations but they just give me a username and password prompt and won't take any credentials.

I blew away one of the Outlook profiles and it won't let me create a new one, I get the same username and password.
I have switch the internal url for autodiscovery back and forth between server.domain.local and mail.domain.com and tried many combinations with no success.  I have already applied a cert for mail.domain.com from godaddy to everything except for UM.

The users are a mix of Outlook 2007 and 2010 (fully patched)
Any help would be great!

Forcing OWA URL to redirect to new domain URL

Hi,

One of my customers is changing their company name and they are looking to have users redirected to the new URL when they enter the old one.  I.E.  someone goes to https://webmail.domain1.com, it automatically redirects to https://webmail.domain2.com.  Currently, they can go to either and it will work because there is an A record for both and the SAN cert contains both names so there is no issue with cert prompt, but they would prefer that the old URL is not displayed so they can get users accustomed to using the new one.  All virtual directories in Exchange are configured with the new URL

Is something as simple as a CNAME record instead of A the solution or is there more to it?

Thanks in advance!

Can access Outlook Web Access, but not the same Outlook mailbox through exchange

I have a corporate Exchange account which includes Outlook Web Access. When on my corporate network, I can reach my Outlook 2010 inbox.  However, if I am on my home network (same computer), I can use my login credentials to gain access to my inbox through Outlook Web Access, but my credentials don't work to open that same inbox in Outlook 2010, even though I'm successfully authenticating onto the network (can reach internal web pages behind the firewall).  Anything I can try to fix this?

Thanks,

Jim

Outlook Rules Breaking Formatting

We have a daily weather e-mail that uses HTML as it's primary format.  It works fine for outside e-mails if you reply, send, forward, etc.  However, our user has set up an outlook inbox rule to automatically forward this e-mail.  It loses all formatting when it is forwarded by the Outlook inbox rule to outside e-mail addresses.  The inbox rule does not break formatting for us internally.  We tested this out on multiple accounts and they all do the same thing.  As long as it's not an inbox rule, the formatting stays and works for all e-mails.  We are using exchange.  Computers that receive the e-mail fine are all on the same network and all use the same exchange server.  It's outside e-mails that it breaks (gmail, aol, yahoo, etc).  What am I missing?

problem of encrypted message

we have a PKI that allows encrypting messages in mail exchange server 2003.

only a well-defined group of accounts called "G" needs to encrypt these messages.

we created a test account "test" that has been assigned to this gourpe but no certificate has been generated for this account.
the problem is that an account "A" in the group "G" sent a message to all members of the group "G" at once (including the account "test" of course),
and because "test "has no certifcate an error message was displayed in the letter box outlook accounts of other members of the group" G "
the message is as follows:

outlook does not find the numeric identifier for this account "test"

to solve the probelme we deleted the account "A" form AD! but the probelme persists,
now I wonder if when we will create an other account with the same noun and we generate a certificates
for it that will solve the probelme?
or you have an other propossions?

RPC over HTTP prompt for password repeatedly only on Windows XP machine -ExV14 SP3

Today I hit a very strange problem with a customer environment

We deployed Exchange 2010 SP3 with Outlook Anywhere using internal Certificates from internal Authority.

We use reverse proxy and CAS array for publishing the services.

We did intensive test with Windows 7 clients and Outlook 2007/2010 . There were some configuration issues that we fixed in the process of the deployment but everything was working fine ,and Outlook Anywhere , ActiveSync are working without any problems.

Recently we tried to connect with Windows XP client but we receive constant prompt for authentication and Outlook is not connecting to the CAS Array servers.

I triple check Root CA , Certificates , Configuration , autodiscover config and so on . Still receive the prompt again and again.

I create a test environment that is very simple just to test RPC over HTTP without CAS array and Reverse proxy with Windows XP

I keep getting the same prompt ,but when I test with Windows 7 machine everything is fine and Outlook is connected.

My test configuration is like this:

Windows Server 2008 R2 Sp1 with DC role , certification authority and Exchange Server 2010 Sp3.

autodiscover.domain.com points to DC (exchange server)

email.domain.com points to DC(Exchange server)

InternalURL and external(autodiscover ) https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

EWS internal and external https://email.domain.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx

CAS Server : exchange.domain.local

Outlook Anywhere - NTLM

Outlook Anywhere FQDN: email.domain.com

One certificate with two SAN : autodiscover.domain.com and email.domain.com

Certificates and autodiscover is working fine in Windows XP . When I try to connect I get the prompt constantly .At the same time Windows 7 machine is  connected using RPC over HTTPS without error

I tried to set EXPR certificate principle name to msstd:email.domain.com but the problem persist.

I'm out of ideas . Based on my other Exchange 2010 Sp2 implementations there were no such problems.

To summarize : Windows 7 and Outlook 2007/2010 is connecting to Exchange 2010 Sp3

Windows XP and Outlook 2007/2010 can't connect to Exchange 2010 Sp3

Outlook RT not connecting to Exchange

Outlook RT will not connect to our Exchange Server.  The W8 Mail app connects with no problem and have been using since the start.  It cannot resolve the username and will not connect even though it asks for and accepts my Exchange password.  I contacted Surface tech support and they were absolutely clueless.  No help at all.   Is there anything special that needs to be done on the MS Exchange side for Outlook for RT.  We connect with iDevices and W8 Phones using Activesync with no issues.  I realize this is a "Preview" release but you would think the tech support would at least propose some reasonable fix suggestions.  The support person seemed to be looking on blogs for help while I sat on the phone...dissapointing.

Outlook cannot access Public Folders on Exchange 2013

I just migrated Public Folders from Exchange 2007 to 2013. I'm trying to access Public Folders from Outlook 2007/2010 and I'm getting the following error when I select All Public Folders, "Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location." When I try to expand All Public Folders I get these error "Cannot expand the folder, Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance." I'm hoping for a quick easy fix.

Outlook 2013 - Disconnect every 10-20 min.

Hi,

Situation:

  • Two Exchange 2013 CU1 Mailbox Role servers (DAG cluster) Windows 2012
  • Two Exchange 2013 CU1 Client Access Servers - Windows 2012
  • Workstation Office 2013 - Windows 2012

Problem:

Every 10-20 min Outlook disconnects.
When I look in the eventviewer the RpcHttp Application is shutting down.
Afther 1 or 2 minutes everything works again.

A couple of users don't use cache mode in Outlook 2013 so they cant work the outlook when its disconnected.

Ather a search on the forum someone posted to add:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\MinimumConnectionTimeout (value 120).

But it still disconnects som times.
Does anyone has the same problem and know how to fix it.

Email Encryption in Outlook 2007

$

Hi Everyone,

I've been given a task of implementing encryption on email client level, as corporate email sever is hosted and managed by a third-party company.  First I tested solution with free Comodo certificates which worked perfectly fine, but as they're free only for personal and not commercial use, I wanted to test a solution with certificates issued and signed by a local CA server.

For some reason (simplicity I guess) I decided it is easier to use Linux for issuing of the certificates, so I installed openssl, issued CA certificate and client certificates, signed by a CA certificate, imported all certificates into local certificate stores of the computers in my testing environment (client certificates to computers Personal certificates stores and CA certificate to Trusted Root Certification Authorities store), then imported client certificates into Outlook through Trust Center, exchanged digital signature between accounts, imported public keys of other contacts into my address book (I also added my contact and its digital signature to my address book and did the same for every other client) and it seemed to work fine. After exchanging couple of encrypted emails between accounts, a message "Cannot open this item. Your Digital ID name cannot be found by the underlying security system" started popping up every time I wanted to read an encrypted message. The same thing happens even when I try opening encrypted message in Sent Items folder that I have just been sent (we use Microsoft Outlook 2007 SP3 and all accounts are configured as POP3 using SSL/TLS connections). After restarting computers, everything seems to work fine again  but exactly the same thing happens after sending or receiving few encrypted emails.

All computers are members of the Windows domain (both forest and domain functional level is Windows 2003). All computers I used for testing are Windows XP SP3 32-bit or Windows XP SP2 64-bit. I imported certificates to local certificates stores, didn't distribute them through GPDoes anybody know solution to this problem or has anyone had any similar issues? Also, myother concern is accessing archived encrypted emails. Will clients be able to open emails after their certificates expire or are revoked?

Thank you in advance!
