Exchange Online Mode for Outlook

$

Hi

We are using Exchange 2013 with a local Outlook client on each device.

When we send an email using the local outlook client when Cached Exchange Mode is disabled (ie. it is in Online Mode) we are seeing two things:

1. No sent emails are stored locally by the client. Ie. When the client is offline we can't see sent mails. Is this normal?

2. Even though we are sending mails using the local outlook client, we are finding that from the header of sent mails, it is showing that the mails are sent from the server and not showing us they are being sent by the local outlook client. (remember it is in online mode) Is this also normal?

Let me know if you need further information?

Cheers

Hi

When using the Outlook Client and Cached Exchange Mode is disabled no emails will be stored locally on the device (laptop). All mails will be stored on the server even when sent by using the local Oulook client. No emails will be stored in the local outlook archive of the device.

Is this correct?

Thanks

OWA S/MIME Bug with Windows 10

Original Thread: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/oemail-osend/cumulative-update-for-windows-10-version-1607-for/2fdf032b-638c-463e-98df-12be6e7932b4

found this thread from earlier this year describing a problem with using OWA in Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 10 with the S/MIME control installed. I am having the same issue, and posted in that thread. I was referred here by a Microsoft employee.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my personal computer. I am using Outlook Web Access for DoD Enterprise Email on Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10. I have all available updates installed including the most recent cumulative update, 2017-08.

Before I installed the OWA SMIME control, all OWA functions worked normally. After I installed the SMIME control, when I open emails the message body does not display, and I cannot type in the message body. I also cannot view digitally signed emails that I have received. I can still modify the To, CC, and Subject fields.

When I open OWA on Google Chrome, everything works normally (minus the S/MIME functions, of course, which are not supported in Chrome).

This seems to be a known issue in OWA, at least based on the thread I linked to above. Is there something I need to do to my computer for the S/MIME control to work? I need to be able to access the encryption and digital signature functions via OWA.

Thank you.

Getting this message in the big pane in the Office 365 Outlook client, which is v16 I believe.

The user is trying to view Public Folders when this message shows in the big center pane instead of the items.  He can view their "Shared Folders" mailbox, which is regular user mailbox, not a shared mailbox.  He has "owner" permission to this Public Folder.  Another user who has no assigned permissions to the Public Folder can open everything and see the items.

I should add that he can browse the folder structure, he just can't view the items.  "Download shared folders" is unchecked because the mailbox is too big and maxes out the pst/ost file size cap of ~50GB.

Everywhere I search I get the usual suggestions.  I've tried them all:

Reboot Exchange 2013 server

Rename or delete ost.

Create new profile

Run ScanPST  (tried before deleting ost).  It found errors and repaired.  No change.

Online Office 365 repair

There must be something I'm missing here.  Maybe something simple.

Meeting Report Request

I received a request from a user that asked this:

Is i possible to generate a report from MS-Exchange at the end of each month that provides a list of meetings where *insert name here* was either an Organizer or an Attendee?

I've briefly looked through the reports before, but that was just for some email journaling. Is something like this possible and if so, any idea how to do it?

Thanks,

Unable to change password in OWA, after having ECP disabled externally

Hi

We have disabled https://<maildomain>/ecp for external access in our FW.

This works great, but for external users, that would like to change their password in OWA, this functionality doesn't work anymore.

This is because the OWA-password-change URL has the URL:  https://<maildomain>/ecp/?rfr=owa&owaparam=modurl%3D0&p=PersonalSettings/Password.aspx

Is it possible to configure Exchange2013 to achieve both functionalities?

(disable ECP-access externally, and allow OWA-password-change externally)

Thanks

/Peter

What is the purpose of the default "Archive" folder? (No in-place archive in place)

Good day everyone,

We have a client who has an environment hosting Exchange 2013 on-prem. A user recently complained that they moved a whole bunch of e-mails to the archive folder, and they disappeared. The user has no in-place archive in place. In fact, archiving has not been made available in their environment.

When checking the archive folder he was speaking about, it was the one directly in the mailbox - it is not a separate entity, and is created (from what I can tell) by default by Microsoft.  I wanted to insert an image, but apparently my account hasn't been verified yet. It's the Archive folder (usually) listed below Deleted items in the primary folder structure of the mailbox.

I have seen this folder in my own Outlook before (We use Office 365 ourselves), but have never questioned it, or made use of it. So my questions are these:

What is this folder actually for? Does it have other rules/retention policies applied to it? (I have checked retention policies, and they are all the default set, with this folder not included in any of them).

I have attempted to search for the information online, but the only info I come across is everything pertaining to in-place archiving and how to clean up a mailbox, neither of which this is resulting from.

Any insight would be appreciated (I would also appreciate insight as to why the mails would have gone missing once moved into this folder).

Thank you.

OWA Inbox rule: Reply to sender

$

I'm seeking a way to create a rule which sends a reply to an individual sender - similar to auto reply but with a message for just one individual sender.  The only thing I find similar is an action to forward the  incoming message, but testing that it fails to forward when it's directed to the original sender (Yeah I know they already have it - this was a test). I can do this in Outlook but not in OWA.

Options?

Is there a scripting capability hidden somewhere in the interface that can be utilized?

Thanks,

Bill

I recently added an email that uses exchange server. At first i could send and receive with no problem. Then it would not send emails out on an intermittent basis. However now it will not send emails from that account and i found that it is running in unicode mode. Plus on the send and receive tab the work offline is stuck and will not toggle to work online. How do i fix this?

Can't authenticate accounts through smtp, imap, pop

$

Hey Everyone,

To preface this the company I'm with has a hybrid exchange environment (exchange 2013). All of these protocols were working for about the past year. We recently had a mishap that brought down quite a few things. We are now getting everything back online but I can't figure out why all of the software (helpdesk/monitoring/System management) we were using before can't seem to connect to any of the above protocols which most of were previously connected to for well over a year with no issue (with smtp.office365.com and outlook.office365.com).

I am able to connect smtp through our office365 mx record on port 25 but that is literally it, and it wasn't necessary before. I have looked through and tried everything I could find on google to no avail. I wasn't originally with the company when the adfs/hybrid exchange was configured which at this point is the only thing I can think that would be affecting it. The microsoft connectivity test goes through until it hits the login then it fails. I have created a new user, changed the password, created an alias, ensured passwords were writing back to azure, tried 3 accounts, made sure imap/pop/smtp were turned on for the users in eac and can't for the life of me figure out what is stopping these accounts from authenticating. I am able to login with no issue to outlook.office365.com with all accounts, and none of them are multifactor. I tested turning on basic authentication on one of the accounts and it still didn't help (I don't want this to be the solution regardless). We do have Azure SSO turned on using password hash which I've confirmed the passwords are synchronized through azure AD connect/powershell. No one has any issues receiving/sending emails from outlook/owa.

Any and all help would be appreciated I just feel like I'm going in circles at this point.

Thank you!

My laptop had a crash several months ago, and I finally have it mostly working. I really just want to get the Outlook data off of it and move on to a new PC. My knowledge is limited as I am not a teckie like most of you guys probably are. I thought I could find the PST file and copy it off. No luck. I have tried to open Outlook 2013 and do a backup but I cannot get it open. I am getting the message above.

Everything I am doing with my laptop is self contained, meaning I am not on a server environment; just me. Can anyone send me a link to a solution and provide any advice for me to get my critical Outlook file off of this thing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Resource Calendars freezing in Outlook 2019

$

Hi all

Hoping someone may be able to assist with issues we are experiencing on Outlook 2019.

Staff are using resource calendars appropriately where they are inviting the calendar as a resource which is booking in successfully.

However, there are designated staff who manage these calendars.
Previously when staff were using Outlook 2013 they would have no issues having the ability to review/delete calendars as required.

Since the introduction to of Office 2019, it has been noted that the calendars and content are still visible.
But when attempting select or open and entries on the calendar, Outlook 2019 freezes up for 1-2min and will eventually provide a permissions error.

Effected staff have been confirmed to have Publishing Editor permissions on the resource calendars.
It has further been confirmed that users do not have these same issues when using OWA.

Site is currently running Exchange 2013, which will be upgraded to Exchange 2019 in the very near future.

I am suspecting the issue is occurring due to a possible incompatibility between the version of Exchange and Outlook if anyone could provide any resources to confirm this?

Any assistance that could be provided would be greatly appreciated!
