outlook 2016 on windows 10 - SBS 2011 credential issue

Hi,

My client has a couple of windows 10 professional version 1809 (OS Build 17763.805) and running outlook 2016 Version 1909 (build 12026.20264), connected to exchange on SBS server; now and then outlook asking for crediential and on outlook status bar there is key Icon with the word need password.

If the user click on need password on status bar then it changed to connected to exchange without putting any password/credential, which I can only assume that outlook already has credientical setup and not sure why it behave this way.

This is happend on desktop pc and connected to RJ45, the user working on files on network drive and internet without any issue so network connection is fine; so it's not like scenario where  user is using laptop with wireless connection and lost signal hence it disconnect but it doesn't connected automatically and outlook get disconnected.

This doesn't happen for user with windows 7 with outlook 2016 & 2013, the issue seems to be isolated to widnows 10 user only. This issue also happend with combination of windows 10 with outlook 2013 as well.

I have tried removing the profile and created the outlook profile, but it doesn't help.

There is nothing related to oulook under windows credential but I found there is 2 entry under generic credential:

- virtualapp/didlogical

- SSO_POP_Device

both entry has some strange username, like 02usrdcfgedpbmau which doesn't make any sense we don't have any user by that username; from what I read on the internet it seems that this is for windows live account which we don't use; not sure why windows create credential for service that we don't use or installed.

I would apprecaited if anybody can shed some light on how to resolve this issue.

Thank you.

Regards

Can't connect to Exchange 2013 via Outlook 2016 (works fine on OWA, Win 10 Mail, and mobile via EAS)

I'm utterly baffled by this, largely because until this morning, everything was working fine. I'm not aware of any changes that would explain this, though obviously something has changed, because none of our users can connect to Exchange (2013, Version 15.0 Build 1156.6, in a 2-server DAG) via Outlook 2016 (don't have any older versions of Outlook to test -- all users are updated automatically via Office 365). All are being told to enter a username and password, which are never accepted. I'm the Exchange admin, so this is my responsibility to fix.

Users have no problem connecting to Exchange and logging in and getting mail via other paths. For example, I can get e-mail on my Windows Phone, in Windows 10 Mail, and via OWA. To test, I have restarted client and server computers, reset user passwords, rebooted the AD servers, deleted and tried creating a whole new mail profile on one of the client computers, and deleted and recreated the connection to the server on Windows 10 Mail. Everything works fine everywhere except Outlook. After deleting the mail profile, I can't recreate it to even launch Outlook, because it gets stuck on the username password window.

I also tried connecting Outlook to Exchange off the LAN, and they suffer the same exact problem, so it's not just the LAN side of the Exchange-Outlook connection that's failing.

Based on the symptoms, and that it affected all copies of Outlook at the same time, I assume this must be an Exchange setting. What could it be? Something to do with Autodiscover?

Unlike previous versions of Outlook, Outlook 2016 doesn't seem to allow me to manually enter the server name, AD domain name, and other information, so if it's not getting it right via autodiscover, I'm not sure how to troubleshoot or work around that.

The closet to changing anything that I can think of is that yesterday (mail was still working until this morning) I had disabled NTLM connectivity on the AD via Group Policy, but as part of debugging, I've since reverted that to the prior setting. I have restarted all servers and the test clients since making that change back, just in case.

I don't think this is related, but one possible unusual aspect to our system is that our OWA domain name is remote.ourcompanydomain.com and mail addresses areuser@marketingname.com. Note that they are different domains (ourcompanydomain vs. marketingname), and where our AD domain would be ourcompanydomain.local (same name as the OWA domain, but ending in .local and note .com). To enter users we are (and always have) entering ourcompanydomain\user.

Allow this website to configure Mailbox10@exampledomain.co.uk server settings

Hi

I am having a weird issue with our Outlook 2016 clients. We are running on-prem Exchange 2013 CU22 Single namespace.

I have noticed that Outlook clients are getting the allow this website to configure error:

“Allow this website to configure Mailbox10@exampledomain.co.uk server settings?”

https://autodiscover.exampledomain.co.uk/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

Your account was redirected to this website for settings.

Don’t ask me about this website again?”

We have multiple mail domains managed in Exchange and so we have a single name space used for ecp, ews, activesync, oab, owa and powershell – webmail.exampledomain.co.uk

We have a separate URL for autodiscover: autodiscover.exampledomain.co.uk

This has been working fine and I am not aware of any other issues but the above mailbox (public folder mailbox) is giving the above error. At this stage I am not sure if this only affect certain users or whether it’s affecting all public folder mailboxes.

To also add to this, The user was not browsing public folders at the time. Just had mailbox open on Inbox folder.

Can you give any advice on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks

Outlook won't connect to Exchange from home

When in the office (no matter on WiFi or cable, no matter on VPN or not) Outlook2013 is working fine. When at home (I only have WiFi at home) it will not connect, no matter on VPN or not. So I tried to turn of Wifi and connect to the internet via my iPhone (using it as a modem) and (although I now can't establish VPN connection, which is another issue) Outlook started to work fine (without VPN). What should I do to make it work on WiFi?

Outlook 2016 autodiscovery not working

Dear All!

I have a problem with a 2011 SBS server running Exchange 2010. The server has a fixed IP address, the host name is:
mail.mydomain.hu

This hostname is set as the primary MX server and the autodiscovery.mydomain.hu cname record is set to point to mail.mydomain.hu

Our problem is that from our client computers Outlook (2016 and 2019, OEM subscriptions) we can't connect to our mail server either in-house or from remote locations (internal and external DNS are set to have autodiscovery and mx records). Since I can't set up my Exchange account manually, I'm helpless. It still works with previous Outlook. It also worked with the new Outlook a few months ago and we have set up multiple accounts this year, and it has evolved overnight. We tried several machines and it doesn't work. I also tried to create an SRV record but unfortunately it didn't work.

On a working machine, we opened the "Test Automatic Email Configuration" menu in Outlook, which returned an httpStatus = 500 error message. Or,
Starting automatic detection: https://mail.mydomain.hu/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml - Failed (0x800C820F)

And after logging in to webmail, I get 600 error code after typing the above xml address, which is a good sign I beleive.

I'd like some help with the problem. Thanks in advance.

It works fine with IMAP 143, but giving an error "Secure connection cannot be established to the server" if I use the port 993 even though I installed SSL certificate on the server. Kindly assist.

We're using Exchange 2010 in our environment.

Can't access OWA page in Microsoft Edge or IE11

Fresh install of Exchange Server 2016 Standard
SSL certificate is configured and setup.

When attempting to access the OWA page from either Edge or IE11 i get the error:

Can’t connect securely to this page
This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner.

Loading the page in Chrome or Firefox presents no errors. Loading the page in IE on the server itself works fine.

I have checked the SSL and TLS settings in the Advanced menu in Internet Options on the workstation i'm viewing it on and everything is correct. We've tried several workstations and they all present the same message.

Any ideas?

OAB not updating in hybrid

Hi,

we using exchange 2013 in hybrid mode(AD connect). Now I noticed, that OAB its not updated. When I try download OAB manually, outlook return error0x80190197. When I looking on internet, I learned that problem is with proxy. I know, that MS not recommended using proxy in hybrid(resp. use direct connect to o365 and azure and bypass with pac file), but we have no choice, it is a decision from higher places. Proxy itsoutside our administration(contractor), and it is a TMG. I guess, that the problem its reaaly in proxy, because when I try for test other proxy(squid, fully open), OAB downloading without problem. I run fiddler on my PC, and watching where connecting(port) outlook when downloading OAB, but, all connection are to port 443, and this port its opened on TMG proxy, so I do not know, if OAB using other port, or protocol which fiddler dont show. Have you an idea please, how it is possible fix this problem, what write to contractor, what must allow on TMG. If it possible in this settings(with proxy, no bypassing).

Thanks

Exchange 2013

Necessary security controls are in place

All outlook clients are working fine

The requirement:

Oracle AIX machine need to receive email.

Action:

Sending mail from AIX server is working fine

Receiving mail to AIX server gives error

The error is:

while running the authentication check from telnet "01 loginusername@domain.com password" and it thrown "01 BAD Command received in Invalid state" error.

Findings:

The telnet connection got established after I changed the Logon method from "Secure TLS connection" to "Basic Authentication (plain text)" in IMAP settings on Exchange server .

Can anyone support us to resolve this without changing the global authentication.

i.e., specific exclusion for AIX server to accept mail using Basic Authentication (plain text).

Thanks in advance for your reply...

Hi,

We are looking to shift from Zoho Mail and Calendar to Exchange Online (Microsoft hosted).

What support can you offer to migrate all employees mail and calendar contents to Exchange? Does Microsoft offer this service or can you recommend a provider who does. This needs to be flawless as we can't risk losing information.

Thanks,

Martin

I have a shared mailbox in Exchange that has missing from fields in the list view of Outlook. You have to double-click them to see who it's from and it seems to be random because some are okay but others are not. Any suggestions on how to fix this I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Note: I would attach a screenshot but, my account needs to be verified.

Hi ,

I'm trying to configure Exchange 2016 Cu14 and OWA with SFB 2015 integration.

So far so good. Performed this task a couple of times but this time is different

The option "Sing in to IM" in OWA is missing. My OWA Policy says that InstantMessaging is Enabled. The Type is OCS

C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange\V15\Logging\ClientAccess\OWA folder dosn't have InstantMessaging either .

Output from Get-OwaVirtualDirectory

InstantMessagingCertificateThumbprint : ******************************
InstantMessagingServerName            : pool.sfb.local
InstantMessagingEnabled               : True
InstantMessagingType                  : Ocs

InstantMessagingCertificateThumbprint : ******************************

InstantMessagingServerName            :  pool.sfb.local
InstantMessagingEnabled               : True
InstantMessagingType                  : Ocs

Policy

InstantMessagingEnabled : True
InstantMessagingType    : Ocs

Any ideas ? It seems that IM functionality can't be triggered. Tried to restart the WepApp pools/IIS/Servers (i have two of them)

Replied icon not showing up

A colleague travels continually and depends on their iPhone to keep current with email. There is an ongoing issue where the "replied" arrow icon does not appear in the mailbox despite the reply showing up in the sent mailbox. Is this related to the use of the Exchange server? If so, what other option do we have?

Thanks!

Hello, we have one particular user whose network account experiences 1 bad password attempt every 5 minutes.  After 5 bad password attempts it locks his AD account.  I have pinpointed it to the following audit failure events from our exchange 2013 server that occurs for each bad password attempt he gets:

First event that gets recorded:

Log name: Security

Source: Security-Auditing

EventID: 4776

Task Category:  Credential Validation

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.

The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.

The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
- Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
- Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

He had mutiple mobile exchange activesync devices registered under his account.  We removed all of them and signed him out of any other devices we could find that he was logged in to.  Also tried running ExMon to see if I can catch his account trying to authenticate, but his account does not appear in the traces.  We even ran an anti-virus scan on and restarted the exchange server.  He also rebuilt his laptop.  The bad password attempts continue to happen.  Can anyone help me understand why this could be happening?  What does the MSExchangeFrontendTransport.exe do?
