Mapi over HTTP issue

$

Hi all!

Hope somebody can help me out. In my test lab, where I`m experimenting with Exchange 2013 SP1 and Outlook 2013 SP1 I came across very annoying thing.

Let me explain a little bit more about config that worked.

Outlook 2013 connected to Exchange 2013 via RPC over HTTPS is working great actually really great. I have created my own certs and imported ROOT CA cert to all of my machines and things are working peachy. As part of my plans for 2014 I have to test and deploy MAPI over HTTP sometime at the end of 2014 in our company (and migrate fromEX2007 but this is different story).

OK so I`ve enabled MAPI over HTTP on my test server and configured 5 virtual machines with different accounts to test things out. Started Outlooks, accepted "Your administrator has made change ....." prompts and here we go, I`m connected MAPI/HTTP and all works really great.

Except for one thing. When it does connect, things are super fast and it works as it should. But sometimes it does not connect right away and it is sluggish in performance. Also Outlook is missing "Quick steps" menu, see attached image:

I restarted all servers, clients, clean Outlook install nothing helps.

When RPC/HTTPS I could quit and start Outlook 10 times and it worked 10/10 without problems.
When MAPI/HTTP I restart outlook and it works 6/10, so 4 times I get messed up Outlook and very poor performance.

Any idea where to start troubleshooting? Maybe Outlook has a bug or 2 with this mode?
Server is correctly sized and backed up by enough of memory and CPU, mailboxes have 100-3500 items in them.
Again, RPC/HTTPS works every time without any problem.
MAPI/HTTP works lets say 6 times without any prolem at all and really works great but 4 times out of 10 it makes me want to throw it away :)

If someone knows best way to troubleshoot this one, please let me know.

Second Email Address In Outlook Profile Error: The action cannot be completed. The name cannot be matched to a name in the address list.

We have two separate Exchange server environments in two separate domains which have a two way trust in place. One is pure exchange 2013. The other is in the midst of migrating from exchange 2007 to 2013. Migration are going well.

We have a couple of power users that have exchange accounts in both domains. Here is the issue we are running into. The power users log onto their machines and open Outlook (Either Outlook 2013 or 2016). Mailbox opens with no issue. When we add a second email address account to the profile using account settings so they can have both mailboxes open at the same time and can send/receive as either user everything is successful. Here are the steps I used to add second account:

However when I close outlook and reopen it, I get the following error:

When I click OK, the details about the added email address come up.

When I click okay, Outlook opened and the second account information is gone. I have tried from numerous devices with both old and newly created users. Any ideas?

Display total number of items in a folder

I posted this thread: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2016-outlook/display-total-number-of-items-in-a-folder/d5910686-c365-45ea-98b1-44721a0a5fa4

But was told to post it here instead, so here it goes:

I'm running Outlook 2016 (32bit) on a Windows 10 pro desktop, and also on a WIndows 7 laptop.  I am connected to a Microsoft Exchange server via Office 365 subscription.  I am trying to set a subfolder in my inbox to show me the total number of items, which works when selecting folder properties, but when I close Outlook and reopen it, the number is no longer displayed next to that folder.  The only ways I can get it back are as follows:

  1. I can either go back to the folder properties, select "show total number of unread items", hit apply, then reselect "show total number of items" and hit apply again.
  2. I can drag an email in or out of that folder and the number will show up again.

But again, once I close outlook then reopen it again, that number is gone and I have to repeat either step mentioned above.

This never happened in any previous version of Outlook I've used, and it's happening on both systems.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled on my laptop twice, and actually just installed Office on my Windows 10 desktop for the first time ever last night, and the issue is there, so I know it's not a problem with my setups, I'm pretty sure it's a bug in the software, and I'm trying to find a fix.  I spent over an hour this morning on the phone with Microsoft Support, and got transferred to 6 different people.  The end result was that they advised me to open a new support ticket with a Microsoft Technician, and that it could cost over $400.00.  That's a pile of ****.  Why would I pay almost half a grand to get support with something that is their problem?

Anyway, if anyone here is familiar with an issue like this, or has any advice, please help me out.

Thanks in advance!!

New Mail Notification (Envelope icon in taskbar) does not go away

I have Office 2013 on Windows 7 and have noticed the following behavior in Outlook:
- New mail arrives in my Inbox
- Envelope icon appears on the Outlook icon in the taskbar
I now read the email on another device
- The email is automatically marked as read on the first machine
- The envelope icon persists in the taskbar
The only way to get rid of the icon is to either toggle a mail from read to unread and back to read or if I get another email and read it on the machine that has the icon

This behavior causes a lot of false positives when reading emails on two machines.

Note: I raised this issue on the MS community forums and they were able to reproduce it. I have added the link below. I am posting it here based on feedback I received there.

I am trying to figure out what is available for those that work with a company that has Exchange 2007 and users that have personal computer utilizing Office 365 or Outlook 2016.

If installed on a new computer, will the resources be found? If not, is there a work around?

If installed on a computer that automatically upgrades to 2016 on Office 365, what functions are not available?

Detailed list, please...

Exchange 2010 server -- OWA and Edge browser attachment problem

$

Hi,

I don't yet have Windows 10 or the 'Edge' browser, but I'm hearing some problems from some of my users who do.

They say they can't add attachments to their messages in OWA.

I am a bit behind in rollups -- only running RU 4/ SP 3

Does anyone know if the most current roll ups will solve this attachment problem?

ALso, while I'm at it, do I need to install each RU on their own or can I just jump the the most recent one and only install that one? Seems to be RU 11.

Thanks,
mike

WAP publishing

Hi guys,

are in the process of deploying Web Application Proxy to publish both Exchange services like OWA and ActiveSync as well as Lync 2013.

Is the WAP server to be domainjoined to the corporate AD, DMZ AD FS (if that's even possible) or just act as a standalone workgroup server?

Guessing pre-auth is better than passthrough, so that's what one should aim for?

Thx!

Outlook to Exchange Sync Problem with "Views" - Sync between Outlook client and Exchange Server seems not consistent

$

I'm having problems syncing Outlook's Views between the Outlook client and Outlook Exchange. (Problem replicated on three machines.  Using Office 365, Outlook 2013 on one machine, Outlook 2016 on two machines.)

When I run Outlook, without being in the Cached Exchange Mode, and make any custom changes to Views (in the inbox, tasks, etc.), those views will eventually get propagated down to my Outlook client in Cached Exchange Mode, but not always.  Also, the reverse is "not" true: Modifying a custom view in Outlook running in Cached Exchange Mode does not necessarily result in those changes syncing back up to the Exchange Server.  Would anyone know why?

I've done a lot of testing on this and I can fully replicate the problem.  The only way I've been able to ensure that the custom Views I've created get properly propagated back to an Outlook client running in Cached Exchange Mode is to create a new e-mail profile and when it syncs up with the server, it grabs the Views off the server and replicates them on to the client.  Sometimes, the client's views will get fully updated, sometimes not fully so.

However, if I make some changes to those views on the Outlook client running in Cached Exchange Mode, those changes will not always sync back up to Exchange.

The Office Technet Forum suggests I reset the views on my client, but that seems not the problem.  If I do that I will lose my views and will have to rebuild.  I have 9 views in Tasks that I would really not like to rebuild if possible.

Let me underscore, any client I connect to the Exchange Server (via Office 365) will indeed pull down the views up on Exchange.  The reverse is not necessarily so.  A view altered on the client does not always update the Exchange sever.

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks.

Corporate Email Signatures and branding

I am currently looking into the options for adding corporate branding to outgoing emails and wanted to know if there is anything which can be done within Outlook/Exchange 2013. We want to ensure that all outgoing email display the same information and easily allow te business to control the information being displayed. This will include adding on corporate images and banners to the email signatures. Is it posible to do this with Outlook/Exchange or do we have to use a third party service to do this?

How to be able to Send As - without sending "on behalf" in Outlook 2013

I am currently able to send emails on behalf of another member of our office from Outlook.  However, he would like me to be able to send emails as him, without having the sender listed as "Meon behalf of Other".

I have found ways to do this in older versions of different email providers, but I can only figure out how to send emails on behalf of him in my current Outlook. Any help?

Outlook clients using wrong OAB URL

Hi Guys

Having migrated all users to Exchange 2013 from Exchange 2010 I'm in the process of removing the 2010-servers.

I'm down to the last 2010 CAS-server, but discover that some client are having problems connecting to Exchange when I turn it off.

If I test autoconfiguration from the clients workstations I can see that the OAB URL still points to the old 2010 server.

New OAB's have been generated in 2013, and have been assigned to all the 2013 databases.

I have check the clients mailbox, to see if a OfflineAddressBook has been assigned directly. Still no luck.

So how come some clients still try to contact the 2010 server?

Shared mailbox email stuck in outbox

We have a shared mailbox and users who have access to this mailbox are having problems sending email as this mailbox. They have this mailbox added to their outllook as secondary mailbox. When they select this mailbox in the "from" section and send the the email, it just sits in the outbox and does not go.

This mailbox is 7 GB in size. And it temporarily got sorted by recreating the profile/ re-adding the secondary mailbox but resurfaced again. What can we check for this problem.

Outlook Connectivity Issue

Hi,

I have a Exchange with 30 workstations and everyone works just fine.
I had to re-install windows on one workstation and after that I have experienced some connectivity issues with outlook on this workstation.

It is connected as usual to the domain and same network as the server.
It is connected to 4 exchange accounts but all of theese accounts is always jumping between the "Trying to connect", "Disconnected" and "Connected". Most of the time it is stuck at the "Trying to connect" part.
The folders are getting updated but not as fast and this is a really annoying issue.

Anyone have a clue on what the problem could be?

I have Exchange 2016 server and my users Outlook 2013 are still getting a Cert mismatch error on startup of Outlook.

I use Split DNS so Internal and external URL's are the same, I have confirmed that all my Virtual directory URL's are correct inc MAPI virtual directory.  I also set EXCH & EXPR values in Set-outlookprovider to match the SAN of our wildcard cert.

Yet Im still getting the mismatch error for internal users, external users seem OK.

What am i missing?

Thanks

I have been getting these events on my users machines: -

Event ID 25: -

We can't complete this because we can't contact the server right now. Please try again later.

Event ID 25: -

Network problems are preventing connection to Microsoft Exchange.

It causes emails that are being written to not send as Outlook seems to lose its connection to Exchange 2016.

What would cause this? How can I resolve it?

Thanks
