Two CAS servers(one per AD site). OWA works in one but not the other?

$

Hi Everyone,

I currently have two exchange 2013 CAS servers in a 2010 co-existence environment(the 2010 is an all in one box). The CAS server that sits in the same subnet & AD site as the current 2010 server proxies requests correctly to the 2010 server(anyone can login without any issues). The problem is with the second CAS server. Whenever someone attempts to login to the second server they get redirected to the following url with a blank page:

https://ex-cas-2.domain.comowa/auth.owa (blank page)

Basically:

  • Exchange 2010/CAS/Database server(all in one): Main Site -> Works correctly
  • Exchange 2013 CAS server: Main Site -> Works correctly
  • Exchange 2013 DAG member: Main Site -> Works correctly(Active copy)
  • Exchange 2013 CAS server: Second Site -> Can login to ECP, cannot login to OWA
  • Exchange 2013 DAG member: Second Site -> Works correctly(DR/replication target. Even if this is offline it should still proxy it to the main DB server?)

I've seen this sort of problem in earlier versions of 2013(changing the OWA cert broke it). However it broke ECP in that case last time too. This CAS has been freshly installed too by the way(not sure if that is relevant?)

I have a few errors in my event log of CAS-2, however I'm not sure what they are getting at:

Outlook is trying to retrieve data from exchange server

Hello,

I am having issues in Outlook after migration from Exchange 2010 to 2013 but only from outside of office, when attempting to send new mail messages once selects the send button Outlook displays "Outlook is trying to retrieve data from Microsoft Exchange Server." and shows "Not responding", then I must end the Outlook process and reopen the program. The issues are every 5-15 min or so and affect only outsides PC, it makes no difference if is trying to send or archiving emails. I have recreated the data file, disabled all addins and did all the recommendations I found over this community. There is no .pst files and .ost file size is under 230 MB and less than 900 emails, I have disabled Lync integration, recreate the profiles, did the Microsoft Inbox Repair tool, ensured there were no spam or email scanners running, tried running Outlook in safe-mode, tried running in both non-cached and cached mode, ensured the offline address book is the default in use, modify some registry parameters in the PCs and server side and nothing works (off course I undone the registry changes after see it doesn't work). OWA access works fine and there are no issues sending and receiving using it. Operating system is Windows 10 64bit with Microsoft Office 365, PCs performance are fine, I also contacted with the Office 365's support team and after hours of work the issue persist. Software installed is minimal with no software firewalls apart from Windows default. Exchange server working fine, inside office everything is ok, even with a remote office connected through VPN Outlook 2010 and 365 works fine.

I would appreciate any suggestions as I am running out of ideas and this issue is persisting.

Kind regards,

Andy.

Presence icon missing in Outlook 2013 and 2016

Hi all,

some of our users are experiencing issue with missing presence icon on the left side:

They do not see this icon, only user name. Presence is working fine if we hover over the name and contact card shows up. In OWA it is also working as expected.

Tried both Outlook 2013 and 2016 with same issue. Disabled and also enabled hardware acceleration without any help.

If same account is logged in on another pc, it works fine so it is local issue.

I suspect it is because the issue pc has 4k monitor, we tried different DPI and screen resolution without any help. Even external monitor in difference size has this issue.

Tried GFX driver from pc manufactor, Windows update and also GFX provider without any help.

Seems like this is a known issue from earlier client:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2726007

This registry did not help since path shown in the link does not exist. (Common\PersonaMenu and Common\IM).

Does anyone have a workaround for this?

Computer is brand new and it is an annoying bug, since our users have to hover to see their presence.

Thanks!

POP3/SPA issue

I have successfully setup and can send/receive email from Outlook 2010 to Exchange to Internet but have a strange issue.  I am trying to use POP3/SPA but sometimes the SPA works and sometimes it doesn't -- does anyone know the defining setting in the GUI to make SPA work?  The server sat in my testing space for a week and it worked -- I then came back to it after being away for a few days and ran the connectivity test in Outlook again before I was going to put it into production and it doesn't work anymore.  I am the only person who set it up and POP/Outlook works without it.  I am using Exchange 2013 CU9 on Server 2008 R2.  I tried resetting the server and restarting the POP/POP backend services.

Missing email attachments in Outlook 2013 (shows fine in Exchange 2010 OWA)

We are seeing some emails where attachments are missing in Outlook 2013 but appear correctly in OWA. We use Outlook 2013 (Office 365 Pro Plus) and connect to an off-premises Exchange 2010 3rd party server. The work around we found is mentioned in this forum post:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/0fd3e45a-166c-412d-8ffd-d3414ebf929b/attachments-not-visible-when-in-html-mode-outlook-2010?forum=exchangesvrclients

When we select "Read all standard mail in plain text" in Outlook > Options > Trust Center > Email Security > Read As Plain Text

Then the attachment appears and can be opened, in this example a PDF, in Outlook.

I have verified this is true for multiple PC's and users.

The particular email originates from a Gmail account and has the conversation thread attached 'inline' which may be a contributing factor.

Can you please advise if this is a known bug and if there is a solution? The work around is not suitable long term as this forces all HTML email to display as plain text which ruins the rendering of most messages.

Thanks,

Shaun

Monitor Draft Messages

Is there a way I can track a user on what attachments are uploaded and downloaded through drafts folder. Even a user can move any large size files from draft folder of .pst to his mailbox drafts folder even on having a quota limit. I would like to know your suggestions for tracking such actions.

I am having an issues with sending emails with embedded images.

Both in 2013 and 2010 outlook client.

The email sends from the client to the Exchange server, the server shows the message as being forwarded yet the client does not receive the message.

I do not receive a relay message from the exchange server either.

the clients have checked their spam and the filters and have no record of the message being received.

NDR & Popup error when sending email outlook2013

Hello all,

I'm trying to fix an error that I've got with Outlook 2013 & Exchange 2013.
In our company we have a mailbox that is used to store mails that are already processed and are important to the company.
The problem is the users that put the mails in that mailbox sometimes don't switck back to their own mailbox after they've finished with that mailbox. And then try to send with that mailbox.

When the user tries to send when the mailbox is in online mode they get a popup that they're not allowed to send with this email.

But for different reasons the mailbox has to be in cached mode. When in this mode and the user tries to send an email with this mail. There is no popup saying that they're not allowed to send with this mail. But they get an NDR in the inbox. Users thinks mail is send but the mail isn't send. and they don't look to the inbox.

I would like to get that popup saying that they're not allowed to send when the mailbox is in cached mode instead of the NDR.

Searched everywhere but no luck.
Thanks for the help.

Exchange migration and outlook problems

Hi all!

I`ve just completed migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 CU9.

We have really huge problems with outlook 2013 clients all of them are on latest version.

Problem is, that performance is really terrible. Tried with HTTP/RPC and with MAPI, same thing.

OWA works just fine and is super fast. I don`t know what I did wrong during migration but we can`t use Outlook, or better said, we can but on local network or outside of company performance is really crappy...

I cheched certificates, DNS, autodiscover all seems to be in order.

Any idea where to start troubleshooting?

Greg

It is a weird POP3 connection behaviour for outlook connectivity

We have 2 x MBX in DAG and 2 x CAS servers in HA load balancing

POP3 enabled users when configured in outlook at certain times get password prompt and this sometimes continues upto 30 minutes , outlook connection is set to POP3 port 995 to use SSl and smtp port 587 to use TLS on same external url

at sametime ping and telnet request get connected but outlook does not

Outlook 2016 requesting exchange credentials incorrectly

Hi

I have recently moved to Office 2016 and, as with previous versions, have set up two profiles for Outlook. One is for when I'm connecting to work over a VPN and connects to my work email (using Exchange server) as well as my two personal email accounts, one of which uses IMAP and one Exchange ActiveSync (live.com). The other profile is the same but without the work Exchange email account.

When I first set this up it worked fine. However, after a day spent on the VPN and using the work profile I now get asked for my work exchange credentials whenever I use my home profile. How can I stop this behaviour?

Thanks

John

Additional mailbox auto-mapping not working for some users

$

Hi, we have Exchange 2013 CU6 installed (the only server doing all roles).

We have various Outlook users out there like 2010 and 2013.  I sometimes have a user here or there every few days or a few times a month call the helpdesk regarding shared mailboxes not appearing down their left hand side in Outlook.

We double check the ECP and go to that shared mailbox, and sure enough under Mailbox Delegation, the calling user is entered under Full Control.  This means since they have full control the mailbox should automatically appear.

This is primarily used in various departments where reps share fax to email inboxes, or generic inquiries for customer service purposes.  Many of these employees are getting the additional shared mailboxes without issues, so I don't see it being a problem with autodiscover service or Exchange.

When the caller comes into our support we just remote on and go into their mail control panel, modify the existing exchange connection and manually type in the missing mailboxes in the additional mailboxes section.

Any idea why for a few people here and there this wouldn't be an automatic process?  I can't say this is a huge problem because for the most part the automatic mailbox attachment is working, and these calls are minimal... but they still happen.

OWA mail search is limited to 1 month older messages

Hi guys

i have this issue where a user is unable to retrieve new messages in search, only 1 month old messages are returned.

this happens in OWA only, in outlook everything works fine.

we did rebuild search indexing and nothing's changed.

my note is, OWA is acting as if the search filter is applied to "Older than a month" as it shows on top of the results "Last Month", while in fact no filter is applied, "All" is selected.

could there be another way to filter search messages that i've missed?!

below is what it displays, but "All" would be selected and not "Older than a month"

this is what it displays, but

appreciate your help

Search results for Online Archive Limited to 250 results

We are running Office 365 Pro Plus with Exchange 2013 CU4 on premise (nothing in the cloud).  When searching the Online Archive (with instant search or Advanced Find) within Outlook the results are limited to 250 items.  This is frustrating to people because we have email going back to 2006 so they are expecting many more results.   I understand the need to balance performance, but why is there not a way to override this limit?  I have searched but have been unable find a way - please let me know if one exists.

Thank you, Jeff

Recipient Cache - Removal

How to remove the recipient cache remove in outlook for particular users as this folder is not visible for the user under contacts.

Is there any powershell command for removing only for particular users or is there any other option.

This is for Exchange server 2013 and client outlook 2010.

Outlook disconnects from Exchange 2013 several times an hour.

[Edit: I did figure out a little more of the issue. I have figured out that what is causing this is the IIS Application Poll that The Exchange 2013 installer creates by default when installing called "MSExchangeRpcProxyAppPool". The server is recycling the RPC Application Pool every 20 - 30 minutes or so. I have recycling completely turned off  on this pool yet it still restarts which leads me to believe it may be a code problem since it only should recycle if the poll crashes. Short of a bug in the code somewhere, I for the life of me can not find why the Application Pool keeps restarting. This is the only pool out of all the ones Exchange created during installation that is recycling constantly. It is frustrating because our Outlook Anywhere clients keep getting disconnection messages several times an hour because of this. The event logs I listed below are the only event logs I can find that trigger when the pool recycles, so as you can see, they give me no useful information in debugging the problem.]

This problem only applies to outlook clients using RPC over HTTP. ActiveSync, OWA and EWS are working fine.

There is a problem with the RPC over HTTP tunnel on our server. Every 20-30 minutes, sometimes more sometimes less, but usually with in that 20-30 minute timeframe, the RPC over HTTP tunnel drops and all Outlook Anywhere clients get immediately disconnected. IT comes back up very fast and all clients reconnect with in a matter of seconds. Not a huge deal for people using cached mode outlook but all the non-cached mode people (Thin clients are an example are not using cached mode to save diskspace). People using non-cached mode would get a couple errors pop up and outlook stopped working.

The only relevant entries I have found in the exchange server event log are here. These same grouping of events show up everytime the RPC over HTTP tunnel shuts down and restarts. I just can't figure out why its doing it:

1-23-2013 9:21:18 AM RPC Proxy 4 (1)
-- RPC Proxy successfully loaded in Internet Information Services (IIS).

1/23/2013 9:22:41 AM WAS 5138 None
--- A worker process '75832' serving application pool 'MSExchangeRpcProxyAppPool' failed to stop a listener channel for protocol 'http' in the allotted time.  The data field contains the error number.

1/23/2013 9:22:41 AM WAS 5013 None
--- A process serving application pool 'MSExchangeRpcProxyAppPool' exceeded time limits during shut down. The process id was '75832'.

I have been searching for weeks on the problem and all I really have found is that the problem can sometimes be caused by RPC timeouts so I set the RPC timeout on the server to 120 seconds via the registry. That actually helped for about 5 days and then the problem mysteriously came back and I can not get it to go away even though the registry value is still set to 120 seconds on that RPC time out.

Does anyone else know of any thing else that causes this? Its Exchange 2013 on Server 2012 and is a pretty fresh install. Was setup in mid-December.

We have an exchange 2013 server running latest service pack and CU10

We have installed and configured Exchange 2016 without an issue

I have moved several user accounts to the 16 database all get a 400 bad request when accessing OWA

This now happens to this user on the exchange 13 and 16 OWA. I have set the HTTP filtering size in the registry as per MS KB with no effect /ecp folder is fine

Any ideas?
