How to allow only select access to POP & IMAP

We are currently allowing access to POP & IMAP through both secure and non-secure methods. Because non-secure traffic is sent in clear text, we need to migrate all users over to secure POP/IMAP, but have many legacy systems that might not be able to move over. With that being said, is there a way to “whitelist” just the select few systems that need to stay on non-secure POP & IMAP?

Also, anyone have a good way to import the Exchange POP & IMAP log files, filter them, and only show the systems that are connecting via ports 110 and 143, in order to get a list of users that need to move to secure connections?

Advanced Search in outlook

Hi ,<o:p></o:p>

I have written a code to find out the number of mails recieved during a time period in a certain folder. I am using Application.AdvancedMethod search to get the output.<o:p></o:p>

Below is the filter passed to the method along with folder path as scope which i am selecting using pickfolder method.<o:p></o:p>

filter="urn:schemas:httpmail:datereceived > '" + startDate.Value.Date + "' AND urn:schemas:httpmail:datereceived < '" + endDate.Value.AddDays(1).Date+ "'";<o:p></o:p>

I have folder structure from 2005 to 2015. For all the folders i have around 4000+ mails . The problem is that the method returns 0 results for all folders except 2014 and 2015. Even for 2014 and 2015 folders, it returns incorrect number. I am using Outlook 2013 with Exchange Server 2013. Please let me know if anyone knows the solution.<o:p></o:p>

Outlook 2013 keeps crashing after search

Hello,

I am an IT specialist working for a non-profit corporation.  I have a colleague whose Outlook 2013 (ran on Exchange Server 2013) keeps crashing every time she tries to do a search within a shared calendar.  This does not happen when she accesses her own calendar, just when she tries to search for an item in a shared calendar. I have tried deleting and re-adding her profile, deleting the shared calendars and re-adding them.  I know that we have 64-bit version of Office running on MS Server 2012 R2 (accessed through a thin client equipped w/ remote desktop), and that this can be a known problem with Office.  I have not had any other calls about the same issue with anyone else.  I've tried searching for this in many forums, but haven't found anyone who has had the exact same issue.  I've also tried searching for this particular exception code. Any advice or ideas would be helpful and appreciated.  Below is a small summary of the warning when the application crashes:

Folder "Top of information" created automatically

Hello everybody,

after migration from exchange 2003 to exchange 2010, I see a new folder created automatically on my outlook, it names "Top of information store ". All my new emails come into this folder, all my sent items are in "deleted items" folder,... I want to have my outlook back to the normal arrangement. Please someone can help me to fix this problem. Many users have this same problem. I think that I will find a solution in this forum.

How do I get Outlook365 working with Exchange via VPN? (What settings need to be the same on two PCs?)

Hello

VPN/Exchange/Outlook trouble!

What settings are relevant ? do I need to get Outlook 2013 to work with Exchange over a VPN?  What settings are relevant?

Background

I am aware that I need to connect a VPN before connecting Outlook but what setting need to be the same and on my 2nd PC? Either way even when Windows Explorer shows that the VPN is working, I still cant get my PC to connect. And worse, even the 1st PC often refuses to connect to Exchange - sometimes even rebooting the whole PC fails to work!

Here are some of my settings which are the same on both PCs.


A) VPN Settings
a) Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > [Rightclick on MyVPN] > Properties > Security >
   Type of VPN ==> Automatic
   Data Encryption ==> Require Encryption
   Authentication ==> Allow these protocols
   Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol ==> Ticked
   MS-CHAP v2 ==> Ticked

b) Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > [Rightclick on MyVPN] > Properties > Networking
Internet Protocol Version 4 > Properties > Use the following DNS Server addresses

However Outlook is having none of it and says: "The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable"

What other setting do I need to make sure that they are the same?

OWA drafts not saving

Having a bit of any issue with draft emails not being saved.  Current Ex build is 15.0 1076.9

Can't remember the exact build beforehand, but before I installed the latest roll-up for Ex2013, the OWA site would allow a draft to be created, typed in, and if you clicked over to another message (i.e. new urgent message) the draft would auto save in the draft folder.  Even if another message wasn't selected, within a few seconds the draft had saved.

As far as I knew, that was a normal autosave feature/function.

After this roll-up I noticed none of the draft messages I started would auto save unless I manually selected the save option from the drop down menu.

Can anybody lends some insight on what might be going on?

Error 403 Forbidden Access

Hello All,

I have access to OWA and I can read and send emails no problem.

However I cannot open any attachments as I get the 403 Forbidden message you do not have permission to view this directory.

I also get that same message when I click on Logoff link.

Any ideas to which directory is OWA referring to?

Duplicate items in "sent" for shared mailboxes

Hi,

I'm having issues with duplicate items in the "sent" folder for two shared mailboxes. These items are only sent once, but appear twice in "sent".

The issue occurs in both OWA and Outlook clients, no matter which user sends the e-mail. The issue is only present on two shared mailboxes.

All previous TechNet threads regarding the same issue were because of IMAP settings, but this is Exchange.

Any ideas on what can cause this?

Configure Auto Archive

Hello Team,

I am running Exchange 2010 and I was willing to configure Auto Archive feature, where in my goal is to Archive all the emails old than 999 days except NOTES (in outlook) . Yes, we are using Notes as well, so I don't want to archive anything related to Notes , but Exchange Email.

Could some one please suggest a path for the same?

Outlook keeps crashing after search

Calendar for third shift

My company recently moved all email to Outlook Web App.  I am in the process of setting my settings, and in the Calendar, it gives you the option to set your "business day".  Unfortunately, since I work third shift, my "day" passes midnight.  When I try to set my times as 10 pm to 6 am, I get an error message saying the end time cannot be after the start time.  I know I am not the only third shift worker out there.  Is there a way to tell the Web App to let my third shift hours show?  I haven't found it yet.  Thanks :-)

Cutover migration error (Exchange server2013 to Office 365). "Transient error ObjectNotFoundException has occurred"

Dear  Team,

I have an exchange server 2013 with 133 Mailboxes. I have done a cutover migration and only some mailboxes synced and most of then are failed with error "Transient error ObjectNotFoundException has occurred". Could you please help on this issue.

for the failing mailboxes, it might have 2 GB in size, but after migrating 700 MB or 1 GB, getting an error as follows; that means the mailbox is partially syncing.

Problem Connecting to Exchange from Outlook

Hi

You resolve one issue but another rears it's ugly head.

Ok...so I had a problem with outlook 2013 connecting onto exchange 2013.

When connecting it came up with an error message for the SSL cert that it was not correct. Reason being is that the domain ip address points to our webserver and not the email server. So the autodiscover was screwed.

Got round this problem by following https://acbrownit.wordpress.com/2012/12/20/internal-dns-and-exchange-autodiscover/

and creating an srv record for autodiscover.

Now the clients are able to create the profile with out the ssl error but it comes up with the error that outlook can not start or open the outlook window. that exchange is not avaiable and either it is due to network problems or the exchange server is down, which is not the case.

OWA/ECP signout not working in Ex2013 SP1

Hi All,

there are numerous posts about the signoff functionality not working when Ex2013 CAS is set to *not* use FBA - but no resolution.

Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Note: there are a few posts suggesting this to be a cached credential issue. It is not. This is neither expected, nor desired behavior. Ex2010 does not exhibit this, and neither should Ex2013.

Outlook 2010/2013 not able to connect to Exchange 2013

Hi, I'm the midst of co-exist between Exchange 2010/2013. I have issues where none of internal users that migrated to Exchange 2013 not able to connect via Outlook 2010/2013. OWA is running fine without issue. Using MCA, the issue due to port is blocked but I have verified that firewall on Exchange 2013 server is turn off all.

    1. Exchange 2010/2013 cert is using public CA cert.

    2. Both outlook anywhere external URL for Exchange2010/2013 is set to outlook.domain.com. internal pointing to server.domain.com. while autodiscover is set to autodiscover.domain.com.

   3. user mailbox in exchange 2010 do not have any issue

while if I try to logon, the error look like below:

Cannot open your default e-mail forlders. You must connect to microsoft exchange with the current profile before you can synchronuze your folder with your outlook data file (.ost).

what else should I check ?

OWA 2013 integration with Office web apps & Lync 2013

Currently we're in the co-exist environment with exchange 2010/2013 while DNS still pointing to Exchange 2010. I have applied Public CA certificate to exchange 2013 while using internal CA for office web apps and Lync 2013. I have tested internally by changing the host file to connect to exchange 2013 and everything is working for internal users. but I have no idea the behavior when we switch over to exchange 2013 especially on external users:

Exchange/owa          --> public certificate

Office web apps/Lync --> internal CA certificate

1. Since I'm using internal CA for office web apps/Lync2013, is there any problem when external users browsing the OWA 2013 ? will integration will be working with this kind of scenario ?

2. Can i used different public cert for exchange and owa/lync ? for example my exchange using godaddy while  office web apps/lync will use digicert ? Is it working ?

Deploy Different Outlook profile than current

Hello

We are about to migrate three companies to a shared office 365 solution. We are taking the migration in steps.

First we are creating all of the users in office 365 and assign them a license. Then we change the mx-records to office 365 so new mails will arrive here. (users will still have access to old mailserver through webmail, to readpreviously mails.)

Last we are migrating mails to office 365 for all users, with a 3rd party tool. (some users has gmail, other users has Exchange 2010 on-prem)

For the users who allready got outlook 2010 installed and connected to a exchange 2010 on-prem, I need to change the profile to connect to office 365 - so they will startup with a blank mailbox, and startreceiving new mails here when mx-records are changed.

  • How can I deploy a new outlook profile - with new change settings to all outlook users?
  • could i simply create autodiscover records for all mail domains, and rely on outlook to automatic connect to office 365 insted of exchange on-prem?
  • how would outlook act if autodiscover is telling outlook to connect to office 365 insted of on-prem exchange, will it start to sync all mails from the local .ost to the (new) exchange/Office 365?

MAC 2011 email attachments converted to winmail.dat

Hello Guys,

Does anyone encountered the same when MAC 2011 receives email with attachments the attachment becomes winmail.dat? What are things might causing it in the server level. Please advice. 

NOTE: This is not affecting only one user but.

Cannot modify or delete an address book contact group

I created an Outlook 2010 contact group in my address book, saved it to my local contacts folder and then copied it to our firm's public Exchange based folder so all in our company can access it for mailings.   However, once I copied it over it seemed to lock the group,  I can't add or remove contacts and it won't let me delete the entire group either.  This was never a problem before and I can't find squat as to how to fix it.  Please help!  When I try to double click the group in contacts it says  "Cannot open this item" and when i try to delete it says "operation failed".

Attaching One Drive files using Outlook 2013. Can this be done?

I had asked this as a followup to a post in a different forum, and it was suggested that I post this here. 

It still appears that you cannot attach an item from your One Drive for Business directly while using Outlook 2013.   It's hard to understand when I can open a One Drive for Business file from within Excel or Word, but I can't attach it in Outlook 2013 (all the while on the same computer).  I don't sync my One Drive as I don't want to clog up my Surface Pro as I typically have access to my One Drive and am rarely offline.  For those few instances, I can plan ahead.

I do know that I can do this from Outlook Web App, but that means that I have to start OWA which I don't have running as I'm using Outlook 2013.

Where do I provide some feedback on this and get it on the radar as a requested improvement?
