Outlook Anywhere prompt for password

Hi,

I have an Exchange 2010 server that I help to manage.  We use Outlook 2010 - Outlook Anywhere connections in the office.   The Exchange server is actually off site, so I have my clients setup to cache a local copy of their Outlook for performance reasons.  We use basic authentication.  

I have one mailbox that is having password issues.   Sometimes (not always) when the user opens Outlook, the password prompt will come up (even though we choose to save the passwords).   Usually when this happens the password entered will not work; however, after waiting a period of time, (between 5-20 minutes), the Outlook client will finally be allowed to login.  This is happening for the same mailbox on two different machines.  I have several users in the office who share mailboxes like this (usually Directors and their assistants) but none of them have had the same issue.   At first I though that one of the two computers might be kicking the other out.  I went into credential manager on both machines (within minutes of each other) can cleared the passwords from the vault.   This worked for a short period of time, but usually within a day or two the issue comes back.   The fact that it will eventually work is confusing.   Both are using stable network connections, so not sure what the problem might be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

dmz OWA minus TMG?

since TMG/ISA is being retired, has microsoft published any guidance on recommended new ways to expose exchange to the internet? it doesn't seem like there's been much improvement in this area for the past few releases of exchange: if you aren't using TMG, you have to open a ton of ports between an OWA server on the DMZ and the exchange/AD backend. some security teams don't like to open tons of ports. i would have thought by now there would be a new method, maybe an internal exchange "proxy" so we could just open one or two ports (SSL?) in the firewall between the dmz and that proxy, and the proxy would do all the RPC, GC, etc. communicating to the internal backend exchange and AD on all the random ports.

CAS servers

I have a CAS server in my data center named sdcmail01.domain.dom. It has a certificate with an alternate name that includes it's netbios name and a public name that is not real. The domain registries no longer let you use alternate names for .dom, since it isn't real. 

I am adding a second CAS server to the data center. I can no longer get a certificate with the alternate name to include my internal domain. 

1. If I don't setup a CAS array, can I just configure outlook to connect to the CAS? or does outlook just randomly pick a CAS server in the the same site?

2. How do certificates work in a CAS array environment? Does the certificate need to retain the name of the individual server for which it resides, or does the certificate need to include the name of the CAS array?

Outlook 2010 outbox - strange issue

My colleague is using Windows 7 x64 with office pro plus 2010. outlook is configured in cached mode and connecting to exchange 2010. he can send emails fine but has encountered an unusual issue. it seems that if he clicks on the outbox folder then he composes a new mail, fills in all basic details, and presses send - the message will never leave the outbox. yet if any other folder is selected then the message sends as normal. i have never come across an issue like this and tested the same on a few other machines but cannot replicate the issue. any ideas?

Delete public folders from outlook (complete delete PF from organization)

I am removing all PF from organization. Succesfully removed PF database from the last Exchange 2010 server with manually deleting DB files after deleting PF from EMC console (as described in technet article). But in outlook clients (outlook 2010) there is still public folders section with "Public folders - user@mail.com" that i can't delete of expand (says that i can't connect to exchange server, when trying to expand PF).

How can i complete delete it on clients too ?

552 5.3.4 message size exceeds error only for users configured with POP3 account type.

Dear Sirs,

We are getting 552 5.3.4 message size exceeds error only for those users configured with POP3 account type.

We are not able to send/receive messages with more than 10 MB message size through outlook configured as POP3, at the same time we can send/receive mails upto 25MB through OWA and through outlook configured as Exchange.

We are using exchange 2007 SP2 and the Message size limit  is set to   25 MB inOrganizaion Configuration,Server Configuration, Send Connector Configuration andGlobal Setting.

Please advise.

I have no '.wmv' in my File Associations.

I found that I could no longer open .wmv files. In File Associations there is no .wmv in the list. I turned off WMP in 'Turn windows features on and off' with a view to re-installing it, but neither re-checking the WMP box or attempting to download WMP12 was successful. I am now left with no media player to open .wmv files I am sent. Has anyone solved this problem before ?

HTML formatting inconsistent with Public Folder -> Folder Assistant template

Hi all,

I'm experiencing an issue I can't seem to get to the bottom of. 

I'm attempting to set up an auto-reply on a Public Folder (Exchange 2010). The mail enabled public folder has an auto-reply set up using Folder Assistant. I have send-as permissions and I am owner on the Public Folder.

I've copied and pasted an HTML template into the Outlook window and saved the auto-reply template.

The auto-reply itself, works fine. However, on any email client outside of Outlook, the message is not displayed in HTML (Gmail, for example). In Outlook, obviously it displays fine. 

If I forward a copy of the auto-reply I received in Outlook to Gmail, it displays correctly. Go figure!

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? It almost seems as if Gmail can't display the HTML correctly, but if it receives a forward of the message from an Outlook client (which has already been 'decoded' if you will) it displays it fine.

I want my HTML-template to be displayed for any and all email clients/services if possible. Am I missing something?

I've created numerous mail room mailboxes., and have shared each one of them to the receptionist. I'm having an issuing finding out how can the receptionist view the attendees that are in the meeting that's schedule in that conference room. I'm running exchange 2010 and any help will be appreciated.

Unable to add multiple email addresses to a single email using OWA

I have had a very irritating problem using OWA. I never can seem to be able to send an email to multiple recipients if they already aren't in my contacts. I have been able to set up Groups, but this is a bit overkill when I'm just doing a one-off email.

When I copy and paste email addresses, I always get a window that pops up that tells me "Remove. No Match was Found," and I never can actually send them. In order to get this task done, I have to go into my own personal email account with Gmail. Of course, I'd love to use the OWA email account, which is a professional one. Can someone please walk me through the steps of doing this correctly?

Exchange 2013 - Outlook 2010 Cached mode - Error 0x8004011C and 0x80040115

Hello all,

Following problem: Exchange server 2013 installed on an windows Server 2012. Client connecting with Outlook 2007 and 2010. All users using cached mode because they are out of the office a lot of time. The problem we have is if the user is on the road , sending an recieving mail is not a problem. While they are in the office the outlook client updates the folders and says "Online". When the user sends a message the message is stuck in the outbox. When clicking on send and recive we got an eror "unknow error 0x8004011C" and while transmitting error 0x80040115 for this action the exchange server should be online... but the server is online because the folders are beeing updated. Looking into autodiscovery and so all url's are correct.

Anyone having a tip ?

Multiple owa sites on a single server 2012 with exchange 2013 (mailbox, cas)

I'm trying to set up an exchange server 2013 on windows 2012 with all roles installed for 2 owa virtual directory, one for integrated windows authentication and the other for forms-based authentication.I followed a tutorial for exchange 2010.

Step 1: IP Address

Obtain a second IP address and add it to the NIC of your server.

Step 2: DNS

Add a DNS entry for That secondary IP address for the name we will want to use in the new FBA OWA Web site.I have chosen "testwebmail." Be sure there is a valid SSL certificate (recommended to have UC or SAN SSL certs) on the server Which has the new name "testwebmail" that will be used in the certificate.

Step 3: New Web Site

Create a new web site in IIS on the Client Access Server and bind it to the new IP address used in step 1.

Step 4: Adding Exchange Virtual Directories

The web site has been created and bound to the secondary IP address of our server.Also the DNS record That will be used to access the OWA FBA new page was added to DNS.The next step is to go into EMS and begin adding our virtual directories for OWA and ECP.

Login to the Exchange server and open the Exchange Management Shell.Then run Get-Get-OWAVirtualDirectory and ECPVirtualDirectory to see the default OWA and ECP directories.

New-OWAVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName FBA -InternalUrl https://testwebmail.mylab.ad/owa

New-ECPVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName FBA -InternalUrl https://testwebmail.mylab.ad/ecp

Step 5: Configure the Virtual Directories

To configure the virtual directories we will disable FBA on the Default Web Site OWA and ECP virtual directories

Set-OWAVirtualDirectory -Identity "OWA (Default Web Site)" -WindowsAuthentication$true -BasicAuthentication $false  -FormsBasedAuthentication $false

Set-ECPVirtualDirectory -Identity "ECP (Default Web Site)"-WindowsAuthentication $true -BasicAuthentication $false  -FormsBasedAuthentication $false

Step 6: iisreset

now if I access the default site I log in with windows integrated authentication, but when I try to access the second site with forms authentication tells me username or password incorrect

Tell me you know where I'm wrong?

Outlook keeps showing Disconnected from SBS 2011 Exchange

For about 3 weeks now Outlook 2003 and 2010 on all machines is showing disconnected when you first open Outlook after starting machine up in a morning or re-booting the machine.

If I disable the Lan or the Wireless adapter then renable it, it connects stright away and there is no more problems for the rest of the day.

Only Windows updates and SBS Server updates have gone on to the machines in the last 3 weeks, Anti-Virus has been disabled in case that was a problem it still does it.

The machines have been scanned for viruses and malware and are clean.

Server has been updated and re-started several times to no avail. 

I do not know if it is a server issue or a client issue.

I have tried removing the profile on one machine and re-creating it, also to no avail.

Missing the calendar events which is delegated to the people

Dear Everyone,

We have one user A which has been delegated the calendar permission (Editor) from user B (BOSS1) and check "Delegate receives copies of meeting-related messages sent to me". After that, user C has sent of behalf of the user D(BOSS2) the meeting request to user B (BOSS1). However, only User A can receive this meeting request (the meeting in the User A calendar but there have no events in user B (BOSS1)), user B (BOSS1) didn't receive any related meeting request emails. After checking in the exchange tracking logs, there have no User B email address in the related transport records but the actual emails has the user B email address. Do anyone has idea about it?

Exchange 2010 SP1 RU5

Outlook 2010 SP1

Outlook - Problem when user sends an email from another user's drafts folder which they have access to - gets stuck in Outbox

We recently upgraded our desktops to Windows 7 - Office 2010.

We have a problem where emails sent by secretaries from lawyers' drafts folders are getting stuck in the lawyers' Outboxes - full details below.

Server: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Exchange 2010 SP2 Version 14.02.0318.001
Client: Windows 7, Outlook 2010 (MS Office Standard 2010), Version 14.0.6023.1000 (32-bit)
Outlook in cached mode

Secretary has access to lawyer's mailbox by administrator granting permissions to mailbox on Exchange server

1. Secretary composes email and saves to own drafts folder
2. Secretary drags and drops draft email to lawyer's drafts folder
3. Draft is updated as required by secretary and/or lawyer from lawyer's drafts folder
4. Secretary sends draft from lawyer's drafts folder – either as secretary or on behalf of lawyer – makes no difference to outcome
5. Draft does not get sent; it does not go to sent items of lawyer or secretary; instead, it can be found in lawyer's Outbox on the secretary's PC
6. The email is not present on the lawyer's PC's Outbox
7. The email is present on Outlook Web App's Outbox folder when logging in as the lawyer – suggesting it's on the server

Workaround:

The secretary has to drag the email to their own drafts folder before sending.

If the email is already in the lawyer's Outbox after an attempted send, the secretary has to drag it to their own drafts folder and send from there. Only the secretary will be able to see the email in the lawyers's Outbox on the secretary's own PC.

We have attempted fresh Outlook profiles, but this has not solved it.

Has anyone else come across this problem? Appreciate any suggestions.

Outlook 2010 Connection Problem

Hello everybody!

We have a real problem in our infrastructure:

We use Exchange 2010 and all of the clients use outlook 2010.

From five to ten times a day Outlook looses connection to the exchange server and promts the authentication window.
After waiting a few seconds Outlook reconnects to the Exchange Server. It's not necessary to enter the login credentials.

Has anybody  seen such a behavior?

Check names in GAL is giving an incorrect result when using international characters

Hi,

One of our customers has the following issue in outlook 2010 (in combination with Exchange):

When searching or checking names from the GAL using international characters or the same representative "normal" characters they don't have the same results.

For example the name Odian (Ødian) - Norwegian characterØ representing an o (like in olive).

When searching the GAL (or checking names) from outlook using the normal character "Odian" the result is for example 10 users, but not the one they are looking for. If they use the special character "Ødian", the result is 1 user, the one they were looking for, but not the other 10 users found earlier.

My first reaction was that this is normal behavior because the name for that 1 user in the GAL (AD) has the special character in it, and the 10 others have the normal character in it.

But apparently it's not normal behavior, because in another environment (completely different customer) I did the same test and there the result is always the same, using o orØ. I also did the test with other characters like e or é, a or à.

So it looks like some configuration can allow/disallow this. The problem is I don't know what is causing this:

-is it an outlook configuration?

- is it an exchange configuration?

- is it a Windows client configuration?

- Unicode?

- is it something else?

Any help would be very thankfull.

Problem with Calendar Notifications

We are using OWA with Exchange Server 2007 SP1.  I have a user who has over 50 users in a meeting.  When she deletes or adds an attendee and selects to only update the additions or deletes, it sends a notification to all attendees.

Authentication failed while configuring exchange profile in outlook email client after added a self signed certificate in exchange 2013, previously it's working fine. how can i rever the previous settings or reset the certificate previously used by exchange server for authentication?
