no access to ecp or owa

We had a Server 2012 r2, exchange 2013 sp1, trend worry free business all up and running, receiving mail connecting outlook ecp & owa working.

Unfortunately we installed rds, and it seems to have broken it, so we uninstalled rds, which still didn’t fix it. So we reinstalled Exchange 2013, still no access to ecp, owa, outlook, but all services running

We REMOVED ANTIVIRUS, no improvement so I Ran powershell as follows

Remove -OwaVirtualDirectory -Identity Server\ecp (Default Web Site)

new-OwaVirtualDirectory -InternalUrl https://Server/ecp -WebSiteName Default Web Site

Remove -OwaVirtualDirectory -Identity Server\owa (Default Web Site)

new-OwaVirtualDirectory -InternalUrl https://Server/owa -WebSiteName Default

and

set-Owavirtualdirectory -identity "server\owa (Exchange Back End)" -WindowsAuthentication $True -Basicauthentication $false -Formsauthentication $false

Set-EcpVirtualDirectory -Identity "server\ecp (Exchange Back End)" -WindowsAuthentication $true -FormsAuthentication $false

Still nothing, but everything else on the server is ok, checked csa role is installed.

I get  HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found. When trying to get tohttps://server/owa or https://%computername%/ecp/?ExchClientVer=15 https://server/ecp/default.aspx  etc.  in internet explorer and firefox and with firewall off and enabled. The system event log is clear, the event log looks innocuous

I have the following outputs and cert info as well.

PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-EcpVirtualDirectory -Server Server

Cannot access Exchange Admin Centre (ECP) on Exchange 2013 server. Got HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

$

I just installed Exchange 2013 Standard SP1 on a server running Windows 2008 Server R2 SP1.  I didn't encounter any issue when installing Exchange 2013 SP1.  It passed prerequisite check and went though all 15 steps smoothly without any issue. However when I tried access Exchange Admin Centre (ECP) at https:\\servername\ecp I got HTTP 500 Internal Server Error saying  "This website cannot display the page.  Most likely causes: 1. The website is under maintenance. 2. The website has a programming error."   I tried access ECP at https://localhost/ecp and I got the same problem.  Under either cases I was able to see the logon page of  ECP and I was able to enter my credential (e.g. domain\user name, password).  However I got HTTP 500 Internal Server Error at the next page.  I tried entering wrong password and ECP returned "The user name or password you entered isn't correct.  Try entering it again".  This indicates ECP does check my logon credential.

I checked the event viewer of the exchange server.  There is nothing Except for a couple of entries of Schannel eventID 36888 every hour.  I did some reached on this.  As per the link below, there is nothing to worry about.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/forefront/en-US/92c63737-c2a3-41f7-8878-3b0cf5ee95ff/new-install-event-log-schannel-event-id-36888

My research showed that HTTP 500 error messages are generally attributed to either certificate misconfiguration or authentication misconfiguration of OWA and ECP, but I don't know why I get this error right after a fresh new installation.

One thing I want to mention is that there was a previous attempt of Exchange 2013 installation by a former IT person.  I ran "get-ExchangeServer" command in Exchange Management Shell and it returned two servers both running Mailbox and Client Access role.  The first server in the list does not exist anymore as I confirmed the server hardware has been wiped and rejoined to the domain not as an exchange server.  The second server is the one I installed recently.

Any idea what caused the problem?  Your help is much appreciated.

Outlook Exchange Directory Connection - Slow Response

$

Hi All

We are in process of migrating from Exchange 2007 to 2013. Clients are Outlook 2013.

Users who are migrated to 2013 are experiencing outlook timeouts regularly throughout day (we do not run in cache mode).

I am noticing that Outlook Connection is reporting slow response times for Exchange Directory connection (screen shot shown below) i.e. 1000ms or above. All other connections are fine.
When outlook times out - I notice that connection to Exchange Directory is the one that times out also.

I suspect a GC / DC issue - perhaps Exchange is querying GCs outside of site? and that's causing timeout? WAN connections between sites are slow (1.5Mb or below).
But my AD team tells me there is nothing wrong with infrastructure. :-)

Could someone assist me in identifying the cause?

Thanks in advance

Anthony

OWA Users cannot access .snp attachments

One of my user complains none of the user can access or download .SNP (MS Access Snapshot File) attachments from OWA 2013. When a user clicks on the attachment they get the warning message "Access to this Attachment is blocked. Recipients may not be able to view the attachment, either."

But the same file is easily accessible from Outlook.

I have tried Set-OwaMailboxPolicy -Identity OwaMailboxPolicy-Default -AllowedFileTypes ".snp" and restarted the IIS Service but no luck!

Do I need to have Office Web App Server to be able to download these .SNP files? Is there any way around to allow such files in OWA out of the box?

Hi,

I have installed Exchange 2013 on Windows 2012 Server. I create users in ECP and select "user must change password at next logon" option. When newly created user logs in, the OWA page doesn't prompt for password change and just throws error "The user name or password you entered isn't correct. Try entering it again"

I have enabled Change Password feature in CAS server, but still not working.

Any answers, suggestions would be great help

Users can't view their archive mailbox content

Hello,

Our users can't view their archived mail. We have two cleanly installed Exchange server: mail01 and mail02, both with the Client access and Mailbox roles. I made a new database and enabled in-place archive for some users like described here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/jj933280.aspx . EAC shows me the "enabled" archiving state. Also i made and applied a new archive policy with two rules: "move default to archive after 1 year" and "remove deleted after two weeks". But users can see only 4 folders: RSS channels, RSS subscribes, spam-folder and deleted and all of them are empty. There is no inbox folder. Then I made an pst-import to the archive mailbox by the shell: new-mailboximportrequest -mailbox User1 -IsArchive -filepath \\...\user_old_mail.pst . The import completed successfully. EAC shows me that this user have a 1,8 Gb archived mail (the same size as pst file have), but user can't see no archived mail neither in Outlook, nor in OWA. I've tried to made an archive in same database where the mailbox resides, but still have the same issue.

Get-mailbox shows:

Troubble with outlook: Automatically Sending/receiving 600+ tasks

Hello!

A customer to me is having some troubble with outlook 2010 automatically sending/receiving...
His outlook is set to automatically send and receive but the problem is that sometimes it performs over 600 tasks (see picture). this problem occurs a coupple of times per week and is quite frankly annoying.

sending/receiving window

The solutions i have tried so far are:

Turn off all programs and restart the computer.
Search the computer for virus/malware.
Looked for a datafile that could possibly make this happen.
Made sure that Cached exchange-mode is off.
Asked him to replace his keyboard if that might be the issue. (not configrmed yet though)
Create a new outlook profile.

Autodiscover does not return UserSettingName.GroupingInformation for Office 365 through EWS

Hi,

I am using the following code to access GroupingInformation using AutoDiscover in Office 365.

AutoDiscoverService.GetUserSettings(Mailbox, UserSettingName.ExternalEwsUrl, UserSettingName.GroupingInformation);

This returns ExternalEwsUrl while GroupingInformation is blank. I have even tried using EWS editor and this property is not returned there as well. I have tried for user as well as room resources.

Looks like these properties were added to the latest version and are not available in earlier versions of EWS. I am using the latest version of this API

Can anyone please suggest a solution to this?

Unable to Share contacts between two specific users in Outlook 2013/Exchange

My brother is trying to share his contacts with his associate, and she is trying to share them back. He managed to right-click on his contacts folder and send out the invitation. She successfully accepted the invitation, and she also accepted his request for her to share her contacts with him. When the email arrived, we clicked on OPEN, but we received an error stating that the shared folder could not be opened.

We tried with another employee, and we could share my brother's contacts with him, and he could share his contacts with my brother. Likewise, he was able to share his contacts with the associate, and the associate could share her contacts back with the employee.

I am not sure what to do now.

We made sure that the associate either manually entered the address for my brother, or she clicked on TO and found the address in the global address list. She did NOT begin to type and then accept the suggested address (we are aware that this will cause sharing to fail).

What else can we try? Are there any procedures to determine what the current problem is?

Thank you.

Sort e-mails by recipient's e-mail in the Sent Items - OWA

Dears,

I'd like to know how to sort in sent items folder by recipient's e-mails in Office 365 Outlook Web App? I have a Exchange user account in a Corporate Domain. When I'm using a Outllook Client installed in my desktop I can organize in my Sent Items folder the e-mails by filter "TO", but when open the OWA and try to organize them, this option isn't available. There is a hotfix that fixes this? I'd like to filter the e-mails by destination and not only "from", "date", "size", etc...

Thanks.

Hello,

I am setting up Outlook 2010 for a user (on our RDP server)  and each time during setup it hangs at the "search for user_name@company_name.com server settings".

The user said he was logged into outlook when our outlook was updated and when he tried to set it up again he gets this same problem repeatedly, at this same point each time.

Any suggestions or ideas?

OWA cannot modify all-day events

Hi,

We recently migrated successfully from Exchange 2010 to 2013.

Unfortunately now none of our employees is able to modify  all-day events in outlook web app when using Chrome (35.0.19.16.153) in Windows or Chromium (34.0.1847.116) in Linux. Also not possible in Firefox 30 in Linux.

When right-clicking an all-day event, there is just the setting "new" available.

Email pictures from Documents Library folder doesn't work with Outlook

$

Hi, I posted this problem in two other forums (Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 forums) and was directed to post it here.

I can click a picture in a folder in my documents library and the Email button appears in the toolbar.

When I click on the Email button the Attach Files box shows up.

I can select the Picture size.

When I click Attach I expect a new email message to be created, but it doesn't happen.

Outlook 2010  is properly set as the Default email program in Windows 7.

I have already tried "Run: fixmapi" as suggested in another forum; it did not work.

In addition, the right-click "Send To: Email" command does not work.

And I tried to email a picture from the Picasa program and that failed as well.

I would like to be able to use this feature.

Thank you.

I have a mailbox that I view, in addition to my regular mail. I have Full Access to the mailbox and the InBox is empty when viewed in Outlook. However, when I run the Powershell command below it shows 10 items in the InBox

Get-MailboxFolderStatistics -Identity MailboxID

Are these special hidden files that I cannot see by design?

OWA cached contacts in New email

we have had some contacts in our internal directory which have been removed. however when composing new emails in outlook, i can still see them as suggestions, which is okay since they are cached.

however, when i am in owa, i can still see them. when i start to type the name of the person i can see their "contacts" email address come up, which have been deleted previously. once i click on search contacts and directory, i see the correct email address come up.

question is where are the contacts cached in owa? and how can i get rid of them? if they are on the server, maybe i can remove them for all users, which i doubt would be the case.

using exchange 2013
offline mode in owa is disabled.

outlook 2011 on MAC constantly asks for exchange password

$

Hi All,

i've gone through posts related to the topic but have not been able to figure out a related response that i can understand.

i'm running outlook 2011 on macbook air / OS  Mavericks 9.4.

When i put in my exchange server settings, it connects, prompts asking to allow auto discover settings. i click yes, it downloads emails then abruptly asks for username and password non-stop. If i click cancel then outlook disconnects.

My company is running a hosted exchange server (2010) on  something called "rackspace".  My IT admin is not provided access to the server itself but rather to a limited control panel which is primarily of no use. He accessed my profile with this control panel and downloaded outlook 2011 under my profile along with profile configuration tool on rackspace. Nothing seems to work.

When the IT admin chatted with the guys at rackspace, they had no clue what was causing the problem.

i have now installed windows 8.1 pro and outlook 2013 on the MAC via VMWARE virtual machine. Outlook does work, asks for the password a few times during the day but after entering credentials multiple times - continues  to work.

I'm now desperate to figure out how to get outlook 2011 / exchange emails to work on the MAC.

Hope someone can help me arrive at a solution.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I need help with ARR setup. I've followed http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/07/19/reverse-proxy-for-exchange-server-2013-using-iis-arr-part-1.aspx to configure ARR (Option 1). My setup:

Windows Server 2012 R2 + Exchange 2013 SP1 CAS+MBX (ex1)

Windows Server 2012 R2 + Exchange 2013 SP1 CAS+MBX (ex2)

Windows Server 2012 R2 + ARR 3.0 (arr)

I can't Authenticate to OWA - I'm able to see starting page of OWA, but after entering username and password I get an errorX-FEServer: EX1, URL look like owa/auth/errorFE.aspx?httpCode=500. When I entering to ECP I get an "Server Error in '/ecp' Application.". Everything works fine when I am logging in directly to OWA onExchange servers (https://ex1.intdomain.com/owa).In ARR logs no errors.

I am out of ideas what can be wrong. Please help me!
