Meeting Request Receives Unexpected Vacation Autoreply from Uninvited User

Hi All,

Exchange 2007 Server SP3 Rollup 8; single farm

One on my users sent a meeting request to her manager and received a Vacation Autoresponse Message from her co-worker. (I know right?)

Been searching for a lead, but no luck. Anyone have experience with this issue or an idea what might be happening?

  • The manager's calendar permissions provides the sender Reviewer permissions (The co-worker is not listed).
  • The manager's mail delivery options allows all his staff Send on behalf permission which includes the sender and the co-worker on vacation.

Thank you for assistance,

--Liko

Outlook 2010 Calendar, Server vs Local

$

With Outlook 2010 I would like to continue to download all my email down to my laptop all the time. Since I travel a great deal having the Inbox local along with storage of associated folders is ideal. The problem is that this treats the local pst file, laptop.pst, as the default location including the Calendar. Given I need to have my calendar up on Exchange for all my team members this creates an annoying problem.

The problem: Invitations shows up in the local calendar associated with laptop.pst

I would like invitations to show up on the Exchange server only and ideally only have that as a Calendar. Since the laptop.pst is designated as default I can't delete the associated and undesired local Calendar.

I do not view dragging and copying events from the local Calendar to the Exchange calendar as a solution

Thanks,

Frank

Wondering if it possible to send out an invitation to someone (my wife) to share my calender if you are using Exchange 2007 Outlook Web Access?

Thanks,

Unable to accept meeting requests that users are receiving as delegates through Outlook 2011 for Mac: Error code: -18500

Connected to Exchange 2010

Users are receiving meeting requests for resources they are delegates for. They're unable to send a response out to the meeting request. When user attempts, the item gets stuck in the Outbox. Users receive the Error code: -18500. Error: HTTP error. The server cannot fufill the request. Mail could not be sent. The item will remain in the Outbox unless you delete the item. Users can accept the same meeting without problem in Outlook 2010 on PC or OWA.

I found a similar question asked before with the same scenarios:

  1. Meeting invite sent to affected Outlook 2011 user on Exchange 2010 from another user either through Outlook 2007/2010/2011,OWA,or ActiveSync Device
  2. Affected user accepts (with or without comments) or declines meeting invite
  3. Meeting gets added (or not if declined) to the affected users calendar and denial/acceptance email is queued locally in Outlook 2011
  4. Affected user gets the following error : HTTP error. The server cannon fulfill the request. Mail could not be sent. Account Name "EXCHANGE" Error code: -18500
  5. Acceptance/denail never makes it to the user sending the invite.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrclients/thread/231711fb-9dbf-488e-9d78-dc776cbe3def

Note: Shortel VOIP is not installed on any of the computers. Message class for the meeting request is IPM.Schedule.Meeting.Request. Meeting was originally scheduled with resource through OWA and a second test was scheduled through Outlook on PC. Outlook for Mac user is still unable to accept meeting.

Question mark around names received in Delegate email -- Outlook 2011

Looking for some guidance... Office for Mac 2011 / Outlook / 14.2.4 / Exchange 2010 SP1

Just installed Update Rollup 7 v2 last weekend.

Yesterday, a client called me to say that Outlook was reporting database corruption. I ask her to choose the option to rebuild since relaunching Outlook 2011 brought her back to same screen. The rebuild seemed to complete successfully and she used Outlook the rest of the day.

This morning I came in to her office on an unrelated matter and she reported that she had a couple of items stuck in her outbox. I looked at them and, to make a long story short, found that the following is happening.

For this story:

* Steve delegates to Jo the ability to accept/decline meetings on his behalf.

* Jo, naturally, gets a copy of all meeting requests.

* Outlook 2011 is set up so that Jo is listed as a delegate for Steve.

Reproducible Steps:

1. I send a meeting request to Steve's email address. My email address is at a completely different FQDN.

2. Jo gets a copy of that meeting request.

3. If Jo opens up the meeting request email in Steve's inbox, the To: field shows "Lastname, Steve" which is how the display name is set on the Exchange server.

4. If Jo opens the meeting request and looks at the To: field in Outlook 2011 in HER inbox, the name shows as "Lastname; Steve;". Both names are highlighted in orange with a white question mark. Hover over the names shows an "Unknown" presence. Opening the contact for "Lastname" shows a completely different Exchange user. Opening the contact for "Steve" doesn't do anything.

5. If Jo makes accepts or declines the invitation in HER inbox, the message gets stuck in the outbox and the Outlook logs an HTTP 500 error for every mail send attempt.

What I've attempted to resolve the problem:

1. Deleted, created, rebuilt the various identities on the Mac.

2. Changing the Directory Lookup URL within Outlook 2011 to the https:// FQDN.

3. Followed instructions found elsewhere to delete the Mac-equivalent OAB and attempted redownload of the OAB. Searching for names in the company directory seems to work fine.

4. Created a new Mac user and tested from there. (Same issue.)

5. Followed instructions (here) to completely remove Office and reinstall. (Although I must have missed something because Jo's open windows and position were retained.)

6. Set up a new Exchange account before and after reinstall and before and after installation of latest Office 2011 updates. (The download of Office 2011 available to me is Post-SP2. I understand that some folks on this forum have had to go back to a version somewhere between SP1 and SP2. I cannot test this, at least right now.)

Other bits of information:

* The Exchange server (2010 inside SBS 2011) is not on-premises. This is a satellite office. Mac and PC Outlooks are configured to use Outlook Anywhere.

* MCRA tests are successful.

* I have tested on another Mac running Outlook 2011 14.2.1. Same problem.

* I have tested another user who is also a Delegate. The other person doesn't use a Mac, but when I set her up in Outlook 2011 14.2.1, she has the same issue.

* Mac is running Mountain Lion, 10.8.2. The Mac is about two weeks old.

* I do not know that any of our other Mac users are experiencing anything similar, although I think that none of them are Delegates.

* Mails directly from Steve to Jo show the proper name within the To: field

* I have not tested setting up an auto-forward from Steve to Jo's mailbox, sending mail to Steve, and seeing what the To: field shows in Jo's copy. (Might be interesting.)

* If Jo accepts/declines appointments from within Steve's Inbox directly, those acceptances and declines transmit successfully.

The most disheartening thing about all of this is that I see that other people are having the problem. Some of you have contributed to a fairly large thread about it the Answers forum. However that is literally ALL of the information I can find in my searching. (The Answers guys asked me to post here.)

At the moment, I have a workaround in that Jo can accept/decline directly from Steve's inbox.

Any help -- any -- even new career thoughts are appreciated!!

:-)

Update X-Header on an existing item using EWS Managed API

Hello,

Does anyone know of a way to insert X-Headers into existing Items, or EmailMessages if not possible on the base Item.

I can create an ExtendedPropertyDefinition

ExtendedPropertyDefinition xHeader
                    = new ExtendedPropertyDefinition(DefaultExtendedPropertySet.InternetHeaders,
                                                    "X-TESTHEADER",
                                                     MapiPropertyType.String);

and use SetExtendedProperty to assign this ExtendedPropertyDefinition along with a value to a **new** MailMessage which I'm going to send. This works.

The problem is that I need to insert X-Headers into **existing** Items. I can call SetExtendedProperty, and Update on and existing item, but the InternetMessageHeaders collection is not updated.

I'm thinking that this just isn't possible the with EWS Managed API.

I'm using EWS Managed API 1.2.1, and interfacing with Exchange 2007

Thanks

Can't recover deleted calendar/contacts/notes/tasks from Outlook 2007/2010

It appears that the dumpster behavior in Exchange 2010 is different from 2007.  In 2007 we could select any folder in a user's mailbox and then select "recover deleted items" for that folder.  Now that we have moved to Exchange 2010 it seems that no matter how recover deleted items is launched it only brings up a list of mail messages to recover.  For example, in Outlook 2007 when I click on calendar, then tools > recover deleted items I don't get calendar items, just emails.  Is there something in Exchange that needs to be configured to allow the recovery of all mail folders, not just mail messages?

Outlook 2010 ThumbnailPhoto not displayed for local contacts

$

Hello,

I'm running Exchange 2010 SP2 with Outlook 2010 clients.  We are running Lync 2010 and have been using the thumbnail photos for some time now.  However, we've found an issue with images showing consistently in Outlook 2010 and are hoping there is an easy fix for this.

1. The user has a smartphone and decides to search the GAL for a user from the smartphone and then "add to contacts" from there.  This adds the contact to the users Outlook contacts WITHOUT the image.  From this point on the user won't see that contact's thumbnail photo in emails.

2. Lync automatically adds "frequent contacts" into the users contact folder WITHOUT the thumpnail photo. From this point on the user won't see that contact's image in emails.

3. A user who is working offline decides to copy a contact from the OAB to their local contacts.  From this point on the user won't see that contact's thumbnail photo in emails.

The fix for this is to have the user delete the contacts without thumbnails from their contacts folder and then re-add them from the GAL while connected to AD (i.e. NOT from their smartphone).  This isn't a great solution and I'm hoping there is an easier way to manage this.

Thanks for your help!

Outlook Client recurring appointments time zone / GMT offset problem

$

I will try to describe this with text, although it's a very visual problem.  I added a post to my blog with it so I could include pictures.  If you think you need pictures to understand the text below, please review that entry.  Please note, the one appointment instance cited below, is an example, there are many others with this same problem, and it only happens with recurring appointments.

Relevant System Information:

  • Windows 7 Utlimate
  • Office 2010 Professional Plus (14.0.6023.1000 64-bit)
  • Exchange services hosted by Microsoft.
  • Android HTC Inspire 4G also configured as exchange active sync client.

Issue Description:

I have a specifications meeting that is scheduled for Tuesday mornings (every 2 weeks) at 8:30 am.  In the body of the appointment, it even has this text spelled out.  "When: Occurs every 2 weeks on Tuesday effective 11/23/2010 from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)." as an indicator of the actual appointment time.  The problem is that one day, several weeks after this appointment had been sent to me, Outlook 2010 decided that it was really at 1:30 PM.  Since that time it's been showing incorrectly on my calendar at 1:30 PM.   So, I recognized almost immediately that this was a 5 hour difference, which happens to also be my timezone offset (except that I'm currently in daylight savings time -- so it's really a -4 offset right now).

I ran the 2010 service pack 1 installer, based on the suggestion of my IT group, and found I already had the service pack installed.  I've tried the timezone tool as well and that didn't work.  Please keep reading.

Next I went to my exchange host with outlook web access.   The appointment is closer to correct there, showing at 9:30am.  It think here it almost seems as though it's applying the DST, but not correctly, maybe doubling it?.  Meanwhile, back in outlook, if I go to the scheduling assistant and look at my time while making an appointment with other invitees it - much to my surprise - matches the time in OWA, not the time in outlook client.

Finally, if I go to my Android and look at the appointment, it is correct.  8:30 AM.

So to summarize:

  • Real Appoinment:   8:30 AM
  • Outlook Client Time: 1:30 PM
  • OWA / Exchange Time: 9:30 AM
  • Android Calendar Time: 8:30 AM
  • This applies to many others, this is just a convenient example.
  • This applies only to recurring appointments.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Jon

Outlook 2010: The task list is empty in the to do bar but there are many tasks there.

We are using outlook 2010 and exchange 2010.  We work in online mode, not cache and use Windows XP. We did not migrate from another version.  I now have two people within my corporation that cannot view their tasks properly in their to do bar.  I thought perhaps it was the client, so I reinstalled, no go.  I tried a different pc all together and that did not work.  I tried the outlook /cleanviews /resettodobar /cleanviews.  I created a new profile but this did not work.

I'm not too sure what to try next.  The first person it happened to I thought was a fluke but now that I have two people, I am afraid it might happen more.  The weird thing is that if you add a new task, the task list shows properly however when you close the client and reopen, the list is empty again. If you play around with the view of the sort order that sometimes works too.  But nothing seems to fix it.
