Outlook.com issue with window 8

I am using outlook.com on window 8. I set up my POP email from Verizon and I used the right configuration from Verizon's web page.  I'm able to send (outgoing) an email with no problem but when I receive (incoming) email it arrives but it takes an extremely long time. I timed it to be 25 minutes till it arrives. I've tried to refresh the page. I need your help. Thank you in advance.
