Hi, we are migrating our emails from our onsite SBS2008 (exchange 2007) to hosted exchange mailboxes.
I'm in the process of transferring our domain name into Fasthosts (UK domain/mail/cloud provider), once this is done I will create new exchange mailboxes with them. Currently the MX & A records for the domain name point to our sbs, when fasthosts take control and I create the new mailboxes these MX & A records will change to the new fasthosts ones and will stop pointing mail to the old sbs2008 exchange.
My question is when the new hosted mailboxes are created, can I just log on to the domain as a normal user on a client PC and open outlook as normal, this will connect to the current sbs2008 exchange 2007 mailbox, then use the "add new email account" wizard in FILE->ACCOUNT SETTINGS->[Email] NEW to add another exchange email account. Hopefully the autodiscover settings work and it configures automatically. Can I have both exchange mailboxes open in outlook? this way no incoming emails will be lost while the new MX settings propagate and will either fall into the old or new mailbox. Once emails stop coming to the old sbs2008 mailbox can I just select batches of emails, right click then select move into the new hosted inbox in outlook?
If all this goes to plan, would you recommend trying to uninstall or stop the exchange service on the server or just remove the old exchange account in outlook by selecting remove in FILE->ACCOUNT SETTINGS->[Email]. The old email address will be the same as the new ones.
Apologies for all the questions but I'm a bit nervous about this move to hosted exchange.
Thanks
