Exchange OWA/Activesync conflicting with RD Gateway role

$

0

I've been bouncing my head over the following issue the last couple of days

I currently have the following set up:

I have a windows server 2012 with microsoft exchange 2013 CAS Role, RD Gateway, RD Web roles.

When I assign my domain certificate to the RD Gateway role it adds a new binding to the "Exchange Back End" website port *:443. This conflicts with the "Defauly Web Site" and stops the "Exchange Back End" website.

If I keep the 443 binding on the "Exchange Back End  website, OWA/Active sync dont work, but the RD Gateway is reachable externally.

When I remove the 443 binding from the "Exchange Back End" website, OWA/Active sync works again but the gateway isnt reachable externally.

Does anybody know a solution to this problem, so that both my Exchange servers is reachable and my RD Gateway functions properly?

Cheers,

Danny

Outlook disconnect frequently with exchange server 2013

We have migrated our SBS 2003 exchange server with exchange server 2013. First we have migrated SBS 2003 exchange server with exchange server 2010 and then we have migrated exchange server 2013.36888

We have verified that all the mailbox and public folders are migrated successfully. But we got one issue in outlook client configuration. We got the error from outlook client  "trying to reconnect" every 5 seconds.

WE have checked event log and we found the event ID is 36888 and 36875

Kindly suggest. We are stuck here.,

Time limit to enter email addresses in Outlook WebApp

$

If you pause* while entering an address in the To field of the Office 365 Outlook WebApp, it assumes you have finished typing and automatically adds a semicolon. This is causing a LOT of frustration for our 7 and 8 year old pupils who are just starting to use email. They get so far through, pause to look at the address they have to copy, try to find the correct letter on the keyboard... oops, too late. The app has added a semicolon and moved on to the next email address. I'm sure this could also be an accessibility issue for people with disabilities, too. This problem occurs using IE9 and IE10 on Windows 7, and IE11 on Windows 8.1.

Is there anyway of preventing this?

*The cursor always stops flashing after 10 seconds. Sometimes the semicolon is added in as short a time as 20 seconds, although it can take up to another 40 seconds.

Migrating from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 while coexisting

Hellow everyone.

I would like some knowledge insight in my preparation for a migration of exchange 2010 to exchange 2013 with DAG in our DR Site.

First of all, what i would like to achieve.

  1. after moving users mailbox to exh2013, i would prefer not to have any manual intervention in the users outlook profile
  2. iPhones/Android using active sync ( if possible, be reconfigure automatically )

What i have done so far.

  1. exchange 2010 upgrade to sp3 (current owa.pro.mydomain.com, it has an old cert that will expire next year owa.pro.mydomain.com )
  2. Exchange 2013 installed in Prod ( PROD2013 current webmail.mydomain.com )
  3. and DR (DR2013 current drwebmail.mydomain.com )
  4. wildcard certificate installed in both exch ( *.mydomain.com )
  5. my internal domain is mydomain.local, so i created split DNS in my DNS servers
  6. configure DAG ( 2013DAG.mydomain.local ) and give its IP - Tested and working
  7. changed its Virtual Directory to use the same address for internal and external, including autodiscover
  8. created the A records to DNS to point to its respective servers

Now the issues i am facing.

  1. When move a test user to new PROD2013, the user can use the OWA successfully, but i cant successfully use outlook 2013 or 2010, it get error The action cannot be completed. the connection to microsoft exchange is unavailable. outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
  2. I can complete it manually, but everytime i open the outlook i get prompt for username and password

it led me to believe that is   authentication issue, here is my autodiscover details, which in my point of view it is correct.

Mapi over HTTP issue

$

Hi all!

Hope somebody can help me out. In my test lab, where I`m experimenting with Exchange 2013 SP1 and Outlook 2013 SP1 I came across very annoying thing.

Let me explain a little bit more about config that worked.

Outlook 2013 connected to Exchange 2013 via RPC over HTTPS is working great actually really great. I have created my own certs and imported ROOT CA cert to all of my machines and things are working peachy. As part of my plans for 2014 I have to test and deploy MAPI over HTTP sometime at the end of 2014 in our company (and migrate fromEX2007 but this is different story).

OK so I`ve enabled MAPI over HTTP on my test server and configured 5 virtual machines with different accounts to test things out. Started Outlooks, accepted "Your administrator has made change ....." prompts and here we go, I`m connected MAPI/HTTP and all works really great.

Except for one thing. When it does connect, things are super fast and it works as it should. But sometimes it does not connect right away and it is sluggish in performance. Also Outlook is missing "Quick steps" menu, see attached image:

I restarted all servers, clients, clean Outlook install nothing helps.

When RPC/HTTPS I could quit and start Outlook 10 times and it worked 10/10 without problems.
When MAPI/HTTP I restart outlook and it works 6/10, so 4 times I get messed up Outlook and very poor performance.

Any idea where to start troubleshooting? Maybe Outlook has a bug or 2 with this mode?
Server is correctly sized and backed up by enough of memory and CPU, mailboxes have 100-3500 items in them.
Again, RPC/HTTPS works every time without any problem.
MAPI/HTTP works lets say 6 times without any prolem at all and really works great but 4 times out of 10 it makes me want to throw it away :)

If someone knows best way to troubleshoot this one, please let me know.

Windows Store App with Exchange Web Services (EWS) - Password change troubles

$

Hello All,

I'm working on a Windows Store App (Target: Windows 8 & 8.1; Dev Environment: VS 2012, Windows 8.1) that communicates with an Exchange Server (office365) using EWS. I've got most of it figured out but I am facing an issue and am not sure how to go about fixing it.

Here's how the problem is created:

  1. Log in to exchange with user account XYZ through the App
  2. Change the password for user XYZ through OWA
  3. Fetch data from the exchange server through the App

The problem is that at 3, I am able to fetch data through the App even though the password has changed. I have verified that the password has, in fact, changed, by logging in through OWA (the old password does not work but the new one does).

I have tried

  1. restarting the app
  2. uninstalling the app before running it again
  3. restarting the dev machine before running the app again
  4. wait 15 minutes (It's now been 4 hours since I changed the password) before trying again

but I'm still able to fetch data from Exchange without specifying the new password. My guess is, the session is saved somewhere on the local machine and it does not get invalidated even when the password has changed. But I haven't been able to figure out where.

What's weird is that I see the same behavior in Outlook. Outlook is able to sync with the Exchange server without requiring me to enter the new password.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the App to stop communicating with the server when the password is changed. The solution does not have to be programmatic.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Outlook Cannot Logon Error - Exchange 2013

$

Hi all,

I simply cannot create an Outlook (2007 or 2010) account to connect to my new installation of Exchange 2013 in Windows Server Essentials environment:

1) Using autodiscover:

I get green ticks for "Establishing network connection and "Search for username@domain.domainroot serversettings". At "Log on to Server" I get the error message "The action cannot be completed.  The connection toMicrosoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action"

2) Using manual configuration:

Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) Exchange Proxy settings configured using the internal FQDN for the Exchangeserver and negotiate for authentication.  Clicking "check name" button to resolve servername (internal FQDN) andusername (user email address) gives error, "Outlook cannot logon.  Verify you are connected to the network and areusing the proper server and mailbox name. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must beonline or available to complete this action.

3) I can ping Exchange server using hostname and FQDN

4) PC is member of the domain

4) I have verified Exchange certiicate is installed on the client PC (although in the "Other People" certificates folder. Makes no difference when moved to the Trusted Root Certification Authority folder.

5) I can successfully connect to the user mailboxes via OWA

I've been working to resolve this issue for several days now and am at a complete loss as to what to do next to get this up and running.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Exchange 2013 category view always in "expand all" mode

$

Hi all,

having issues with mailboxes that have been migrated to Exchange 2013.If in category view and choose collapse all, then expand just a few,go to another folder/inbox then back all categories are expanded.Seems like Outlook (2010 and 2013) doesnt remember it.

Checked in view settings - group by - expand/collapse default is set to As last viewed.

This happens to all mailboxes exept those mailboxes that are on Exchange 2010.

Exchange 2010 sp3 cu6 had an update that fixes categoryview not updated, but cant find any for Exchange 2013.

Since the update is on server,i guess this can be changed on serverside settings in Exchange 2013?

Our workaround atm is to ask users to open additional mailbox in new window, but this doesnt work well for users with 1 screen.

Are there any fix for this?

Thanks.

I have been using Microsoft Outlook 2010 as my email client for office365 on a desktop pc successfully now for 2 years. All of a sudden it has decided to stop syncing. It indicates that it is connected to Microsoft Exchange Server, but never works even when trying to push a send/receive.

Can anyone help please as this is most frustrating when trying to run a business.

Operating system = Windows 7 (up-to-date)

thanks

Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)

Fresh installation of Exchange Server 2013 on Windows Server 2012.

Our first test account cannot access their email via Outlook but can access fine through OWA. The following message appears - "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)" is displayed.

If I turn off cached Exchange mode, setting the email account to not cache does not resolve the issue and i get a new error message - "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file (path\profile name).ost is not an Outlook data file (.ost). Very odd since it creates its own .ost file when you run it for the first time.

I cleared the appdata local Outlook folder and I tested on a new laptop that has never connected to Outlook, same error message on any system.

Microsoft Exchange RPC Client Access service is running.

No warning, error or critical messages in the eventlog, it's like the healthiest server alive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I haven't encountered this issue with previous versions of Exchange.

Cannot create distribution groups in OWA

Hi all,

Have just transitioned to Exchange 2013.  Users who use OWA now cannot create distribution groups.  They use IE11 on Windows 7 and are using the standard (not the light version) of OWA.

When in the 'People' pane of OWA there is only the option to add a new contact (as in screenshot below).  There is no option to add a group.  Desktop users of Outlook are fine.

Anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

thanks

Hello,

I have made new Exchange 2013 SP1 installation with CAS frontend server and mailbox backend server.

I have played with OWA and ECP authentication. I have broken it and have recovered again but now I have a problem with authentication to owa and ecp. When users enter their login/password they redirect to https://mail.server.kz/owa/login.aspx and after it they redirect to https://mail.server.kz/owa/auth/errorFE.aspx?httpCode=404:

https://mail.server.kz/owa/auth/logon.aspx?replaceCurrent=1&url=https%3a%2f%2fmail.server.kz%2fowa%2flogin.aspx

If user enters https://mail.server.kz/owa/ he gets correct page and then everything works fine.

Two companies, one Exchange Server

We are an organisation with a single Exchange 2010 server.

All our addresses are currently @aaa.co.uk.

We have now acquired another company (bbb.co.,uk) and would like some of our users to have the ability top receive email from both domains and to be able to send from either @aaa.co.uk or @bbb.co.uk.

It would be advantageous to have the emails kept separate which may suggest these users having a mailbox for each company.

We have all our mail coming in via an ISP, who host our MX records, so I assume we just get them to host the MX records for bbb.co.uk also.

We do not have an Edge Transport server role.

Where do I go from there?

Am I right in thinking we need to create an Accepted Domain for bbb.co.uk then create separate mailboxes?

Well explained guidance would be much appreciated.

Legitimated emails keep going to junk folder

Hello everyone

Recently we are having few issues with emails that keep being sent to Junk folder.

These emails are system generated, since some users work with 3rd party programs on daily basis. Those emails that were sent from these programs ended up in Junk folder.

I had checked and everyone has their Junk Filter Configuration off/disabled, but still emails keep directing to the Junk Folder instead. This happens to the majority of users, there are few users who actually got the emails in their Inbox which is quite strange.

Couple of hours ago, I set the SCLJunkThreshold to 9 (it was 4), and until now, it doesn't resolve the problem.

We are running Exchange and Outlook 2013, users are running Window 7.

Hope to get some advises from you all.

http 400 - bad request

The setup is as follows

Windows Server 2012 R2 running Exchange 2013 CU5 - CAS Role
Windows Server 2012 R2 Running Exchange 2013 CU5 - Mailbox Role
Published via Web Application Proxy, using ADFS on Server 2012 R2

The problem

Browse to https://webmail.contoso.com/owa - log into OWA as myself this works fine - try and open another users mailbox that i have full access to, i get HTTP 400 bad request

If i browse to https://servername and perform the same procedure it works.   This leave me to the conclusion that the Web Application Proxy server / ADFS server is at fault

this KB article is not relevant in this instance, as I can resolve the names correctly;http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2770796/en-au

Any suggestions

Thank you.

Accessing Exchange 2013 Mailboxes from Terminal Server hosted on Server 2003 Std - Cert Issues

$

We are in the midst of deploying an Exchange 2013 SP1 CU5 environment and have run into some issues.  Currently there is a good coexistence between a single Exchange 2007 server and the 5 2013 servers.  Mail is flowing through 2013 and then being relayed to 2007 when necessary.

We have a number of Server 2003 Terminal Servers.  On two separate machines, both running the lastest rollups of Outlook 2010, any user with a 2013 mailbox receives a password prompt after launching Outlook.  It is trying to connect to one of the two CAS, fills in the user's account, and will not accept any password.  In addition, a window pops up behind stating "There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate.  the name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site mail.pvschemicals.com.  Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server.  (error code 0)."  2007 mailboxes are not affected.

We have checked pretty much everything that we can think of.  Virtual Directories are good, certificate is good, etc.  The strange thing is that only happens on 2003 TS machines, so I have to think that it's related.  Our 2008 TS' are just find.

We have applied the 2003 SHA2 certificate hotfix.
