Exchange 2013 and Outlook connectivity - need advise

Hi All.

I understood default exchange 2013 has two roles - Mailbox server role and CAS role, so please tell me will outlook client connects directly to Mailbox server on which it's mailbox located or connects to mailbox through CAS server?
