Post Cross-forest migration Outlook credential popup but email is working

Hi,

Kind of a strange one. Different from the other credential popup issues I've been reading about. Hopefully someone will have some insight because I'm at a loss.

So, I've been doing a cross-forest migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013. Did the prepare-moverequest, then ADMT, then new-moverequest legacy. User+mailbox first, then computer. Everything was working well.

Except, 3 out of ~200 are getting this windows credentials popup when opening Outlook. It says "Connecting to username@newdomain.com", but will only accept user credential for the old domain account. However, whether I put in the old credentials or just hit cancel, email for his mailbox (on the new server) is working. As far as I can tell, doesn't matter what I do with that prompt. Outlook functions properly (besides the annoying popup).

If I open "connection status" for Outlook, I can see the established connections to the new Exchange server. All normal. But, when the prompt comes up, there is one connection attempting to hit the old server. I hit cancel and it goes away (temporarily). I put in the new credentials, it keeps asking. I put in the old credentials, it says "established" and thinks all is well.

I've looked for shared mailboxes or calendars. None. Checked account settings and no mention of the old exchange server. I've tried creating a new profile, but the same behavior follows. Seems to imply it's a server/account issue.

Now, there is one thing that is different about these 3. Normally, after the ADMT migration and mailbox move, I log into the pc with the new credentials and then open up Outlook. Since the PC was also migrated via ADMT, the profile is "migrated" to the new user (maybe reassociated is a better word). So, I open Outlook first, I get a message about "sys admin has made changes. outlook will now restart. blahblah". It does it and Outlook opens normal, except it still says the old email address in the title bar. Perhaps it's just aesthetic, but to fix that, I close outlook, go to control panel->mail 32bit, and then account settings and tell it to "check name" again. That pulls the new email address and then all is good.

For these 3 with the issue, I didn't open Outlook first. I went straight to the control panel to fix the email address. Then I open Outlook. I don't get the "sys admin made changes. outlook will restart. blahblah" message, but am stuck with a pointless credential prompt. Maybe this is coincidental, but it's a bit of info that may help.

It's just an annoyance right now, but when the old Exchange server goes away, I don't know how these systems will react.

Seems like I prevented something from happening that redirects(?) something from the old to the new. Maybe something server side, since it affects a new profile too. I'm out of ideas. Maybe if I knew more about what happens on that first run after an ADMT migration. If someone has some insight, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks.
