I recently changed ISPs to a faster fiber connection. As a result, I have been left with no choice other than to send outgoing emails through the new ISPs relay servers (all outgoing mail direct from my server IP are blocked). In order for me to send mail
through the ISP relay server, I have to configure Outlook to send and receive emails using POP3.
I have enabled the POP3 services and followed the steps outlined here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj657728(v=exchg.150).aspx going through each section and following the steps as provided. I received no errors during the configuration, and all seemed to work as expected. However when trying to connect to the exchange server, both inside and outside the local network, Outlook fails to connect and displays as generic message as follows:
Task 'Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
I have no idea where to begin trying to troubleshoot the problem. No errors that I can find are being generated on the server, and the Outlook message is very generic.
I have full access to the client machines and the server, so I can perform any diagnostic tasks or retrieve logs if necessary.
I would be very grateful if someone is able to point me in the right direction or otherwise assist me in identifying the problem in this case.
Many thanks in advance.
