Search of public folders on Outlook 2010 not working properly

Hi all,

I was sent over here from the community site, so here we go:

we are running an Exchange 2010 server and have Outlook 2003 an 2010 as clients.

One Outlook 2010 client does not allow for a proper search of public folders.

Searching within the mailbox folders works as intended. However, when you switch over to a public folder and try to search there's two strange things happening I cannot get sorted out:

1) The Search Tools Ribbon category where you can specify things like "From", "has attachments" or "Categorized" is grayed out.

2) There is no filtering of search results. The phrase you have entered in the search box will be highlighted as defined in the search settings, but it will still show all elements of the folders. Hence, you need to scroll through the entire folder and check for highlighted text. That is not exactly user friendly.

I have checked the all settings I can think of and compared them to the settings in my Outlook/OS, where I have no problem with searches in public folders - works as it should. There is no difference in any settings I checked.

This is an isolated problem of this user on this machine with this version of Outlook.

Both a repair and reinstallation of Office 2010 did not fix the problem.

So, if anyone has any ideas on what the problem could be, I would appreciate the insight you could offer.

Thanks,

Robert
