iStore Apps

I have down loaded several apps from the iStore. Both seemed to have downloaded successfully. One had to be updated and it successfully updated. However when I tried to executive the app, it would not load. Several phone calls later, I was informed by the Apple help desk, that Microsoft does not have permission to use the Apple apps. What is this all about? If that is true I spent a lot of money to buy a device that doesn't do what I want a tablet to do. Is there a work around?
