Error when trying to set up Outlook with new Exchange 2013 installation

Hello all,

I dived into the world of Exchange 2013 tonight in my test network, "upgrading" (not really!) from Exchange 2010.  I set up a brand new Hyper-V VM with the host OS being Server 2012, the guest OS being Server 2008 R2 SP1. I did all Windows Updates, all prerequisite software installs, etc.  I uninstalled Exchange 2010 from the machine it was on without issue and Exchange 2013 Setup went through without issue.  The VM has a healthy 16GB of memory to work with (only setting up two mailboxes on this test box), plenty of disk space, etc.  I am able to use OWA with no problems with both mailboxes.  In OWA, I can send/receive e-mail all day long just fine.

However, when configuring Outlook 2013 RTM to work with the new server, I get the following message after manually configuring the server settings:

Outlook cannot log on.  Verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name.  The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

My replies to the above message:  "OK." "I am." "OK." "It is, or so I thought."

This process repeats itself on each machine I try and with Outlook 2010 as well. Rather than using the hostname, I've also tried using the IP address to no avail.  I've tried every variation I can think of for the mailbox name for both mailboxes but this also does nothing.

Connectivity is good from each machine I try to the Exchange server; I am able to ping it with no issues and can access a test shared folder I set up on it.  I also verified all Exchange services are up and running OK.  I've rebooted the VM as well.

At this point, and after having worked on this whole thing from the first mouse click to uninstall Exchange 2010 to now (about four and a half hours), I'm at a loss (and tired).

Any help is appreciated.
