Outlook 2010 - Non domain account keeps trying to authenticate on domain, locking out other users

At my workplace we have contractors who work with us very closely onsite.  They have a domain/e-mail account with us (we will call this domain "X") as well as one with their contracting company (account "Y").

These users log into machines on domain X, but their primary email address is with their contracting company using exchange server Y.

The problem we are running into is that when we add exchange accounts for both X and Y, their account for Y keeps trying to authenticate against the DC for domain X for some reason.  Since user names differ between X and Y, domain Y employees are causing domain X employees account to become locked out.

For example:

Mary P. works for Phlanges Inc, but her office is in the building for Widgets, Inc.  Since Widgets, Inc is a small and separate company, Mary's username is simply "mary" and her email address is "mary@phlangesinc.com."  Since Mary works in the Widgets building, she uses a Widgets, Inc imaged machine on their domain.  Widgets, Inc, also has a user named "mary."

When Mary P adds her @phlangesinc.com e-mail address to her Outlook, despite actually connecting to the proper exchange server and retrieving her @phlangesinc.com email, the domain controller for Widgets, Inc gets hammered with authentication requests for"mary@phlangesinc.com" which causes the account for "mary@widgetsinc.com" to lockout consistently and repeatedly.

Does anyone have experience or insight as to why and how this happens, as well as a solution that allows Mary P to continue to access her Phlanges email via Outlook 2010 on the Widgets domain?

Thanks!!
